For $400 you can get a laptop with Intel integrated graphics or maybe an amd apu.

http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-E5-574G-52QU-15-6-inch-Notebook/dp/B019G7VOSO/ref=dp_ob_title_ce

But if you boost the budget up to $550, you get a 940m which can handle light gaming.

u/techneeeq · 3 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

This would be an excellent choice for you. Nice processor, decent dedicated graphics card... Great memory and screen resolution. Also, nice battery life and storage.

I'm working this summer to pick up a laptop before my semester starts at college. Just a few hundred more to go!

Edit: here's the link! I know it's not the most flashy laptop, but I'm super stoked to get this guy because I've been going through very cheap laptops that have been dying on me and it's been draining me (poor college student trying to support himself). But this seems to be the best deal I could find. I'm gonna get an SSD to replace the HDD to boost the speed and set up a clean windows 10. Super excited cause it'll be my first time working on a laptop (replacing the HDD and upgrading Ram... eventually). I'm studying Finance and IT so ive done some of this stuff before, but it'll be a first for me doing it on my own personal computer.

Edit 2: Sorry for the super long post, I'm just really excited to get this! I found this, which seems to be a newer model with an SSD already in it!

I have the older version of this. It is good for everything you will do in school. I would recommend if this is a school/non gaming laptop. i could not offer another recommendation without knowing what exactly you are using it for. With also recommend investment into a ssd. http://www.amazon.com/Samsung-2-5-Inch-Internal-MZ-75E500B-AM/dp/B00OBRE5UE/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1462316020&sr=1-2&keywords=ssd

Outdated, weaker processor. 940M will allow you to play most games on low settings. More importantly, that computer is overpriced.

If you are okay with playing games on low settings, then you should consider this model:

Acer Aspire E 15 E5-574G-52QU 15.6-inch Full HD Notebook - Cotton White (Windows 10) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B019G7VOSO/ref=cm_sw_r_other_awd_00eRwb9Z7T977

It's practically identical with 6th gen i5, albeit still the weaker 6200U variant. It's also much cheaper.

If you're price range is 700-800, then consider the Dell I linked in my previous post.

u/jasonhalo0 · 2 pointsr/AmazonTopRated

You're faulting other laptops for pushing high res monitors? Mac offers no options with less than 1440p resolution, which AFAIK is higher than pretty much any other laptop. I also don't see any macbook that offers discrete graphics cards (although I didn't look super hard, maybe you can add some sort of customization)

So if you want a good CPU, good enough graphics, 1TB HDD, and 6GB of ram, why not something like this has an i7, 940m (not the greatest, but better than any integrated graphics) and a 1TB hard drive, for $700, cheaper than any Mac product and only lacking in the weight category and the screen resolution is lower.

u/CCGigabyte · 2 pointsr/pcgaming
Is a cheap gaming laptop out of the question? You could grab this laptop for $500 and be able to play most games at low-medium settings. Or, if you can spend a little more, you could go for this laptop for $800 and play most games at medium-high settings.

If you don't want a laptop, then I would definitely go with the mini rig.

I'd go for something like this for a mini rig:

PCPartPicker part list / Price breakdown by merchant

Type|Item|Price
----|:----|:----
CPU | Intel Pentium G4400 3.3GHz Dual-Core Processor | $58.99 @ SuperBiiz
Motherboard | ASRock H110M-ITX/ac Mini ITX LGA1151 Motherboard | $67.99 @ SuperBiiz
Memory | Crucial 8GB (1 x 8GB) DDR4-2133 Memory | $26.99 @ SuperBiiz
Storage | Hitachi Travelstar 1TB 2.5" 7200RPM Internal Hard Drive | $59.49 @ Amazon
Video Card | Zotac GeForce GTX 950 2GB Video Card | $134.99 @ Micro Center

| Total | $505.94

This would definitely fit into an average-sized backpack.

It's tough to recommend laptops for gaming purposes only because the price to performance is atrocious compared to just building a desktop pc. To get decent performance at that price, you gotta make sacrifices, unless you find a great deal, you'll have a terrible TN display, or most of the time you have to settle for a mobile dual core processor or you're sacrificing having a decent mobile video card. For around $500, you're probably gonna have a dual core i5-6200u or i5-5200u with a 940m and a TN panel display (Which means viewing angles are gonna be bad unless you're looking straight on, and even then it won't look great, but a 940m should run most games on lowered settings.)

Edit: Something like this is what you'll be getting, these specs are pretty much what you'll get across the board, and maybe you'll get lucky and get an IPS panel which is imo the most important thing to have with a laptop these days

It has a 940m in it which is enough to run games at medium/low u could also go for the i7 for better performance and it still cheapish.

u/JzKy24 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

This is probably the cheapest laptop, its not really a gaming laptop tho, but some people consider it as a gaming laptop, but it can handle minecraft tho, since it has an i5-6200U, and minecraft is a CPU bound game, also the laptop has a GT 940M, but It cant handle modern games, can watch this video for the review

but If she can spend $1000 on a laptop
I recommend the this asus laptop or this acer laptop
both are almost the same, but the asus has 16gbs of ram, the acer also has a 16gb ram option, but the price will rise up to $1300, so probably you should get the asus, and add $100 or $200 more on the asus and you will get a 128GB ssd and 4GBs of Vram

If she has a budget higher than that, then I can recommend another laptop, but at this budget, I recommend building a PC

You can go to PortablePicker, it is a laptop/tablet ver of pcpartpicker, it can help you find the best laptop for her budget

Sorry if my english is bad

u/The--Technician · 2 pointsr/SuggestALaptop

Definitely the Acer would be your best choice mainly because of it's dedicated graphics card advantage. Go with the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-574G-52QU , it has a 4 GB GTX 940 instead of 2GB.

u/Nihlus_Duskstalker · 1 pointr/Guildwars2

Keep in mind that GW2 is also fairly CPU intensive and tends to favor Intel chips. I'd look for an i5 as an i7 may be more than you want to pay.

This is the most bang-for-buck option I could find with a quick amazon search: http://amzn.com/B019G7VOSO

But given you're willing to spend the extra bucks, I'd go with the Dell Inspiron 7559 that Chenghiskhan suggested above.

But cost-effective + laptop =/= high frame rates.

u/thelphelper · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Allthough it is over your budget please consider this Acer Aspire E 15 E5-574G-52QU , the battery life is awesome 6 hours battery life which would be really important ., i5-6200U, 8GB RAM, great storage and speed, Nvidia 940MX graphics , and a 15.6" 1920x1080 display. Or even the Acer Aspire E15-575G

u/trainedtech88 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

this very decent Acer Aspire E 15 great cpu, nice ram good gpu for gaming and a fantastic 256gb ssd which will enhance you booting as well program launches.

u/SSNNOO · 1 pointr/OverwatchUniversity

You must be using a non-gpu laptop or something. If you want to climb out of bronze I really suggest even getting a baseline gaming laptop that has a graphics card for about $500, these work great for on the go work too.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/laptops

Yeah, I am pretty much in the same boat as you. I am probably going to buy the Aspire E from Newegg because there is really much else with a 940M or better in that price range. You could get the Skylake refresh of the Aspire E, it is cheaper than the old version on Amazon: http://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-E5-574G-52QU-15-6-inch-Notebook/dp/B019G7VOSO

u/LocalDreamer · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

How much better is the 960M vs the 940M? I was eyeing this Acer and its a fair bit cheaper.

u/silents429 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B019G7VOSO?tag=price195-20&m=ATVPDKIKX0DER It's right here.

And for $550 Skylake + 940m it's alright, I think for $500 there is another Acer with a 950m and broadwell CPU, that would be better spec wise.

u/Agent_Dongson · 1 pointr/gaming

take a look at this laptop acer

u/bigfashionmeme · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

It would definitely, but that laptop is not a good deal. You can get a brand new one with a 1080p screen and even a 950m for that price. I'm focusing just on performance though, you didn't mention any worries about build quality or battery life.

Better specs:

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Nitro-VN7-571G-50VG-Notebook-Computer/dp/B01CL50JV6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1466137026&sr=8-1&keywords=950m

Better price, same GPU:

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-E5-574G-52QU-15-6-inch-Notebook/dp/B019G7VOSO/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1466137026&sr=8-4&keywords=950m

If you could afford it, this one has much a much better CPU and GPU for $690:

u/Telogor · 1 pointr/Warframe

This is probably as good as you're going to get for a low-cost laptop. You might be able to get a steady 30 FPS at minimum settings. Going a little more expensive will net you more performance and an SSD for good Windows performance. The sweet spot in price/performance ratio would probably be this, but the lack of an SSD pains me. If I were to buy a gaming laptop, the lowest-end model I would get would be this Asus ROG.

u/PapayasRus · 1 pointr/Overwatch

Hi, I'm planning on buying This Laptop because i'm looking for a cheaper laptop that could play games and i was wondering how well it could run overwatch and on what settings

u/MrBlink8 · 1 pointr/HaloOnline

I'm going to be buying a laptop soon and want one that could run this game. The requirements aren't too high right? I was thinking of possibly buying this laptop off Amazon. Does anything know if it could run Halo Online?

e: thanks for replys halo online fam

u/dino0986 · 1 pointr/Sketchup

Did you buy a laptop yet?!

If you didn't BAM!
This thing rocks for the price.

---

Even if you have, return the one you got, buy this. If its better than the one you got.

u/sightl3ss · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

Is there any difference (other than model number) between the Acer you linked above, and this one
on Amazon?

All specs look the same but the model numbers are different (and the one you linked to says "Newegg Exclusive")

u/toastyj247 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

I've seen cheaper newer models of your laptop, if it isn't too late I'd return it and buy this one

Here's a review Austin Evans did on it

u/FireArts · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

but you are misunderstanding what the OP wants he wants a laptop that is able to run LoL (not that hard i ran it on computers from 2001) as well as code I have coded on i3 computers their compiling process is not worth the price the Quad core will increase performance dramatically and he said should he cheap out on the desktop not the laptop but if you do want a lower laptop that can still run LoL at max and doom (low to medium 60 fps) i reccomend this Acer Laptop

Edit: because doom is a new game i use it as a benchmark to show what type of performance you can get

u/Xterno50 · 1 pointr/SuggestALaptop

One last question, about that 940mx laptop.
The description says it uses DDR5 but then it says DDR3

And i found https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-E5-574G-52QU-15-6-inch-Notebook/dp/B019G7VOSO/ref=sr_1_fkmr0_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1468342362&sr=8-3-fkmr0&keywords=asus+940mx

Which one is better? 940mx (ddr3-4?) 2gb vram or 940m ddr3 4gb vram

u/Grawnoc_Quapcake · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

I got this Laptop for 500€ and it has everything i want.
I can game and photoshop or program with it.
https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Aspire-E5-574G-52QU-15-6-inch-Notebook/dp/B019G7VOSO/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1469651259&sr=1-1&keywords=Acer+aspire+e5+574G
(got a full black version
The only thing which is a little bad is to run games like overwatch with middle settings (55-65FPS).

u/Melikesong · 1 pointr/Filmmakers

I would always choose a desktop system over something portable, but as you stated you're looking for something more portable. If you wish to go the Apple rout your options are more limited, but that's not my call to make. I personally have Windows systems as most of the software I use is either cross platform or Windows only. I also occasionally play games so Windows wins out with it's huge game library, but I digress. You could also look into a Hackintosh system, but those can be unstable.

Anyway, Kyle over at Awsomesauce Network did a 'Go Anywhere Do Anything PC' for editing when he's traveling about. He later upgrades it, but it's the concept that matters.

I myself have a decent desktop rig for everything, but recently I found myself looking for an editing companion on the go. I settled with a Dell i7559 which does pretty much everything I need it to after tossing in a 1TB hard drive as a secondary. I have a friend that uses the Acer Aspire E 15 E5-574G-52QU for his projects. It's much weaker in comparison, but still manages quite well in Adobe products after plopping in an SSD and some more RAM.

If you have any questions I'd be happy to answer to the best of my abilities.
