Why does it have to be less than this 980 ti?

If you want to overpay for a inferior product because you are too damn impatient then go right ahead.
According to CamelCamelCamel, this is the lowest price this video card has been so far.
I just purchased a great GTX 1070 card on Amazon for ~$400. Keep an eye out for sales.

Hey guys! I know this just looks like a generic RGB battlestation. I recently just bought a house for myself, and was finally able to set up my own gaming room, and I wanted to show it off .I plan to eventually set up my VR stuff in this room somewhere. I know the photo quality sucks, but I don't own a camera, and my iPhone camera sucks.

Yea probably not that significantly. Right now, that card is $439.99 on Newegg/Amazon, plus an offer for $20 MIR. $419 is pretty good.
Here's some reference to the card's historic pricing from CamelCamelCamel: http://camelcamelcamel.com/ASUS-GeForce-STRIX-Graphic-STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING/product/B01HDUVJ1I
So currently I'm looking at an ASUS 1070 that's $430 after the rebate + $56 for Destiny 2. All that comes to $486
The Nvidia 1080 + D2 from the offer that OP posted is $550.
Essentially I'm spending $66 extra for a 1080 + D2. Is this a deal worth doing? Is the $66 worth it for the 1080 vs the 1070?
You could look around on Camelcamelcamel.com. They track price histories. FTW3 cards been very stable.
The 480 has fluctuated more
1070's are also fluctuating a lot. 3rd party sellers are taking advantage of the demand more than Amazon so try to just look at the Amazon prices and ignore the absurd $1060 premium some idiot bought a 1070 8GB ROG STRIX OC for.
Amazon "only" charged $30 more for them at the most- not the worst premium to pay if you don't want to wait on prices to drop.

Used like new from Amazon Warehouse $400.08.
As far as I can tell this is the same, although temporarily out of stock. Anyone spot the difference?

Sadly, my old i5-4570 CPU appears to have kicked the bucket, in the same PSU failure that took out the motherboard. This was an old DDR3 build, with a 1070 that had carried it far. Thus, I basically will need to rebuild the whole thing.
I still think the 1070 works. What would be the best (aka cheapest) CPU/Motherboard chipset combo that wouldn't throttle a 1070 (This model exactly). I'm not doing more than gaming, spreadsheets, so no video editing/streaming, or overclocking.

A good price for a premade should make you give up on trying to build your own once you look up the price for the card and CPU. You shouldn't be able to beat a premade by building your own much less by multiple hundreds of dollars. Only way buying this is worth it is if they give like a 10 year warranty. Like seriously are they including a monitor and peripherals in this? Because there must be something I'm not seeing. There are many great premade builds out their OP but this is not one of them.
A new GTX 1070 costs around the same price as those 980 Ti's, and it's faster, I still can't see why you want to for a 980 Ti.

I can't justify that difference when a GTX 1070 is able to overwhelm a GTX Titan X, and it's only 25$ more.
US Amazon has them available for pre-order still. Might as well put one in there if that's the card you're interested in. They don't charge until they ship and it's easy to cancel if you find one before then.

I think that's an outstanding deal.
if your mobo has pcie-3 lanes, you should be fine, what's your processor if i might ask? also, i would personally recommend the Asus Gtx 1070 Strix edition, or MSI or EVGA's editions over the founders edition.
If you click on the link for the Strix 1070 on Amazon it shows there's currently a $20 MIR for it, making it $399.
Do you know the answer to this question?
should just go ahead and get this ASUS 1070?

Also what does the boost clock mean why would I want the 1860mhz more than the 1502mhz?
I don't plan to do anything like overclock I just wanna install it and play
Perdón, tuve un typo. Es una GTX 1070 ASUS Strix, tenía pensado $400, está en buenas condiciones y nunca le exigí mucho (más que amor y cariño).

I really like my Asus Strix OC but I've heard good things about the Gigabyte and Gigabyte xtreme gaming
Performance won't be that much different, just go with what has good reviews, good cooling and a good warranty. Also considering your preference in looks and price.
Edit: Getting and SSD is definitely worth it for boot times alone. You can get a 120gb which is more than enough for your OS for cheap. There was a 32gb on Newegg for $20 last week, which I believe is big enough for windows but I'm not 100% sure.
This 1070

Well I was going to sell this 1070 for $350 shipped. I tried to find some close to $350, but most of them were around $380-400 still for this card. This thing is $425 new on Amazon https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01HDUVJ1I/ref=mp_s_a_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1491102273&sr=8-1&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=Gtx+1070+strix+OC+edition&dpPl=1&dpID=5105rrCQwcL&ref=plSrch
If you're after an Asus card, get this one as opposed to the one you linked. It has a higher base clock and is barely more expensive.
The Asus Strix 1070 has 2 HDMI 2.0 ports.
Amazon has the Strix now
What do you think the chances of the prices for the GTX 1070 dropping by more than $50 within the next 3 months?
I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on this stuff now, but I don't really know the best "season" to be shopping for computer parts.
Edit:
Also are these two the same product? They look like they are the same but Amazon Canada is crappy about product descriptions sometimes...

I had a local resource comment saying the ASUS ROG STRIX would be better https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HDUVJ1I: "It has an extra fan and has starting out better values before any tweaking". Any thoughts on that? Going out to start some more research on the STRIX model, but I see it's also on sale for $394.99 compared to $389.99. Price perspective they are similar, and I know you mentioned they all perform within near percentages, but curious on your thoughts.
Like this one? https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-GeForce-STRIX-Graphic-STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING/dp/B01HDUVJ1I/ref=sr_1_2?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1483048840&sr=1-2&keywords=gtx+1070&refinements=p_89%3AMSI%7CAsus%2Cp_36%3A35000-44000
$40 over my price range, but i could make it work.
Usually something like this : https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HDUVJ1I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_8QWTzbWEC41M7
But the only thing I can find similar to the price of that one is this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01LLAJ8PU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_hSWTzbC3TT71R
Yeah here it is:
https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-GeForce-STRIX-Graphic-STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING/dp/B01HDUVJ1I
This is not to be confused with this one It has a lower clock, but it's a secondary.
there's one for $520 on NCIXUS. I've never bought from them but it's a vendor on pcpartpicker. http://www.ncixus.com/products/?sku=133336&usaffiliateid=1000031504
Also Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-GeForce-STRIX-Graphic-STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING/dp/B01HDUVJ1I/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1498428857&sr=1-1&keywords=gtx+1070
where are you seeing 2020mhz? I'm looking at the amazon page and it says it OC's to 1860mhz
One more question: is there an appreciable difference between the ASUS GPU (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HDUVJ1I/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1Q8UT2DBCBIIW&coliid=I12GN2003H8JV4&psc=1) and the Gigabyte GPU (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HHCA1IO/ref=wl_it_dp_o_pC_nS_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&colid=1Q8UT2DBCBIIW&coliid=I588EDU4LQU0D&psc=1)? The Gigabyte is about $50 cheaper on Amazon ($370) than the ASUS ($420). Not sure how to differentiate...
So I ordered all of the stuff on this list... https://pcpartpicker.com/list/BYcJXH but then I saw the same card with a boost clock of 1860.... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01HDUVJ1I/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_J9zgzb5HRHRJY which only costs $7 more than the $408 I paid for the non OC version. Is there any reason not to return the one I ordered and get the OC version? Will all other parts be compatible?
I purchased the ASUS GTX 1070 from Amazon.com (even though I live in Australia). It was $458USD.
Not sure it will ship to your country but I thought I would share.
It is on Amazon stupid Amazon and 3rd party vendors price gouging https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-GeForce-STRIX-Graphic-STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING/dp/B01HDUVJ1I

why are there never any asus strix 1070's in stock (not the scalpers that are priced 100-150 more than that actual price)?
https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-GeForce-STRIX-Graphic-STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING/dp/B01HDUVJ1I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1468458405&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+1070
579 is that really the price for a freaken 1070?
Well bear in mind I'm coming from a 770 2gb, and I quite like the 400$ asus turbo price point, but if you're saying that I could yield more frames then I definitely consider a better card.
It's either this:https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-GeForce-STRIX-Graphic-STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING/dp/B01HDUVJ1I/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469275612&sr=8-1&keywords=asus+1070
or this when they get back in stock: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?item=N82E16814126112
Do you think the added performance is worth 100$ in your opinion?
Sure this can't be real?
$11,699 for a GPU
oh yea forgot the cards:
3 really good ones here
i think that the ASUS is the best but thats my opinion
Not gonna get a 4k screen so I'll be looking into the 1070. Are you referring to this one?
This is the link I get when I click on the "monitor 1" hyper link: https://www.amazon.com/ASUS-GeForce-STRIX-Graphic-STRIX-GTX1070-O8G-GAMING/dp/B01HDUVJ1I/ref=pd_ybh_a_3?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=Y80QRTV33A6XST9DF140&th=1

i think you might like the RGB on your graphics card especially with a windowed case
At some point we need to have a discussion as a community about what price we use when we talk about graphics cards and equivalence & power/$.
AMD RX 480 MSRP Pricing
The AMD RX 480 reference card is MSRP'ed to retailers at
(Sources: NewEggBusiness.com)
Now these MSRP selling points are not the "price" of the card, only the MSRP used for retailers. The market rate price on amazon, etc, which is controlled by supply and demand and free market pricing, is a much different story. Cards sold at MSRP are purchased and resold on the free market unless this 'arbitrage' is controlled. Currently AMD does not enforce any MAP or other price controls on stores.
AMD RX 480 Market Pricing:
Amazon
Note how the OC XFX has elevated the cost of the stock XFX card even though it is functionally the same as the Sapphire/MSI etc stock reference cards. Demand and pricing don't follow logical feature comparisons.
Let's pull in the Nvidia cards share we?
GTX 1080
GTX 1070:
GTX 1060:
Conclusion:
*edit:
If the price vs MSRP for other cards is any indication, it is reasonable to expect the 1060 to retail significantly over the $299 asking price post launch, maybe $350 or higher. Then it becomes a question of value and how the 1060 will effect the market demand for the RX 480. If the OC versions of the RX 480 are on the market and maintain the same or lower prices as currently($325-$375) then the value/$ of the RX 480 is still higher than the 1060's likely real world results.
I would want to say this,
