No solder, just tension and friction. It is quite simple when you have the right tools although still possible without. I use this pin punch set

The Amethyst is a 4mm cab. I wrap 0.8mm wire three times around a 3.2mm punch. The inner diameter ends up being about 3.6-3.8mm once the wire springs back a bit. Then I just push the Amethyst in hole. If there is enough tension it will hold.
