unfortunately Bluetooth can't really do it yet. You need about ~3500kb/s to play lossless 24/96 without compression, but AptX is about 576kb/s. The new LDAC (Sony proprietary) codec can do 990kb/s and claims it can stream 24/96 but I have yet to be shown how it is able to compress the data threefold.
But you can get pretty darn good sound with an AptX compatible module like this one. I think most car stereos would become the limiting factor in audio quality when using a modern Bluetooth codec, assuming it's set up correctly and the connection is clear. It offers well over the highest Mp3 bitrate which means unless you are listening to some really complex music with a huge dynamic range you'll probably be fine in most cases.

Are you using an OEM iPhone cable? The generic ones never worked or didn't work for long. I would get charging issues or have issues with sound quality/buzzing. I know they recommend plugging in the cable first, then plugging in your phone or something like that. Occasionally I would have to reconnect the phone for it to recognize and show up on the car's display.
Have you tried using just the audio port? The USB? The audio port can accept an audio source such as your phone, but without changing songs etc from the car display. The USB can play MP3s and even lets you navigate folders. You may have to ensure everything is plugged in securely? I think it was just a single thing you have to unplug? I don't remember exactly.

Sorry I should've clarified but I'm keeping the stock head unit in the car, it has an AUX input so I'm looking for something like this kind of receiver.
