Gerber Strongarm.
$50, made in Oregon, thick study blade, full tang, comfortable grip, molle/belt/drop leg attachment options, excellent for opening MREs, cutting cord, fixing computers. Have used this to open 10 cans of beans for a cookout.
Alternatively, I like to use the Buck Vantage
One of the many Kershaw Chinese made knives, like the Tremor or the Scamp. A Buck Vantage Select. You might find an Ontario Rat 1 for under $25 if you search around.
There are also several Chinese brands that are pretty cheap and very decent quality, you can find on ebay, or http://www.exduct.com.
The Buck Vantage is a wonderful knife that holds an edge well and is made in the USA.
I picked it up for $36.
