Generally, the best keyboards are ones with Cherry MX Mechanical switches.

There are 3 types of switches that people mainly go for.

Red switches are linear switches, that means they don't have a bump. They are don't have a click, but make a large clacking sound. They will not have any feeling at the actuation point (The point where the keyboard recongizes your input). These are generally recongized as better for gaming rather than typing.

Blue keys will have an audible click at the point where the keyboard recongnizes your input. There will also be a slight bump at that point as well. These are generally recongized for being better at typing than gaming.

Brown keys are the middle between red and blue keys. Brown keys will keep the slight bump at the point where the keyboard recongizes your input, but does away with the click sounds of blue keys

Generally, the best keyboards will have genuine cherry mx switches of any type. That should be your starting point. Then you can add things like volume controls, backlighting, etc etc etc. Generally, the keyboard that stuffs the most of these features while keeping cherry mx switches will be your best deal.

All of these will be good gaming keyboards while keeping under your budget:

Logitech G413 with Romer-G switches $89.99

More Affordable Alternatives

  • Corsair Strafe with Cherry MX switches $79
  • SteelSeries 6Gv2 Cherry MX switches $77.65
  • Corsair Vengeance K65 with Cherry MX switches $67.00
  • CM Storm QuickFire TK with Cherry MX switches $58

    About Romer-G Switches

    > It's like MX brown, but with its emphasis on the tactile bump instead of the travel.
    > On MX brown, it feels like they throw in a bump in the middle of a long, linear travel. On Romer G, the bump starts at the very beginning of the travel and takes up the entire first half of the key travel. The bump on Romer G is more pronounced, which does reassemble how rubberdome is all about that bump, but it still has mechanical switch's characteristics of a rather linear travel after the bump, and solid thud when you bottom it and when the key comes back up.
    > It's a good alternative. The keycaps may look silly but imo they didn't just throw them in for the look; they actually do a good job "catching" my less than accurate fingers that would have slide off on regular keycaps. source

I have a Corsair mechanical keyboard with cherry browns, but not I don't want the keypad because I need more mouse room. How much would a used [Corsair] (https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-STRAFE-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B012B6X7MI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1498241233&sr=8-2&keywords=corsair+keyboard+brown) keyboard go for? Would you guys recommend the Logitech G610 Orion or the Corsair Gaming Strafe?

Both cherry mx brown and going for $90

edit: spelling

u/nitehawk39 · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

I am considering a first time keyboard and have narrowed down my options to 3 Cherry MX Brown choices at or below $70, but I'm willing to go up to the $80 area:

[G. Skill RIPJAWS KM570] (https://www.amazon.com/RIPJAWS-KM570-Minimalistic-Cherry-Brown/dp/B01LZ3CMKW/ref=sr_1_10?ie=UTF8&qid=1537467996&sr=8-10&keywords=cherry+brown+keyboard)
Fnatic Gear Rush LED
Corsair Strafe

What factors would differentiate keyboards at this price point ($80 or below price point) besides the RGB color? As a first time buyer I do not have a good grasp about the qualities of the boards. Suggestions for keyboards below $80 would also be very handy.

u/SwimmingAshes · 2 pointsr/MechanicalKeyboards

Found something.

Corsair Strafe

  • MX Browns

  • Aluminum case

  • USB pass through

  • backlighting

  • 12 function keys

  • Case is low profile and the switches are "floating"

Only downside is a non-standard bottom row and uses a PC layout.

u/brendanw36 · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

OK so greens are basically MX Browns. I'm gonna recommend either this guy or this guy. If you need me to hunt for a lower price I can. I won't promise much that is from common brands you may have heard of.

u/hardrock527 · 2 pointsr/buildapcsales

(The Red)I mean it's been ~ $90 on Amazon for a while now, the cherry red is 79.99

Edit: sorry for the confusion did not realise there was a version difference berween RGB & Red

I just bought this one attempting to fulfill the same needs: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B012B6X7MI/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

It comes with a keycap puller that you can use to add textured keycaps (included) to gaming keys. You can choose the MX switch you like as well.
I can't wait until it gets here!

u/TheSkiGeek · 1 pointr/Overwatch

I got one of these recently and it's pretty nice: Corsair STRAFE Mechanical Gaming Keyboard, Red LED, Cherry MX Brown https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012B6X7MI/

If you spend a little more you can get fancy RGB backlighting.

These are the different Cherry mechanical switch options: http://www.keyboardco.com/blog/index.php/2012/12/an-introduction-to-cherry-mx-mechanical-switches/

u/CatnipJunkie · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

I just ordered the GSKILL KM570 yesterday - http://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16823828007

I've read nothing but positive things about it. Around $60 for a full mx brown keyboard is the cheapest you're going to get from what I've seen the past few days.

The Logitech Orion Brown G610 was briefly $60 on amazon, but now it's back up to $100. It may come back down. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CDYB8F6/ref=nav_ya_signin?ie=UTF8&smid=ATVPDKIKX0DER&th=1

The Strafe is also another great choice at $70 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B012B6X7MI/ref=twister_B01N8XHJUU?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

My impression is there isn't much difference between these keyboards at this price point. Good luck mate.

u/FuttBuckTroll · 1 pointr/buildapcsales

Yes, and the Strafe with Brown switches is $80. But they're Red LED not RGB. I don't really care that much for RGB, but lots of people do. And it's easily $25-50 more for RGB versions usually.

u/gur111 · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I want to buy a mechanical keyboard and I saw one that looks good with good comments on Amazon but I'm worried that the fact it had kailh and not cherry mx might be a problem. I want a keyboard which I can feel the click but it's not too noisy so I can't play with friends and they don't hate me for keyboard sounds.
So my questions are: is brown the right option for me?
Is kailh going to be a problem?
And which one of these is better (I like the white lighting better soon tend to want the kailh keys and not the cherry)

Since you asked for recommendation for a good backlit keyboard with the budget <$100, I can strongly recommend Cherry MX Brown / Gateron Brown Mechanical Keyboards as they are both good for gaming and daily use. Here are couple of good, proven mechanical keyboards:

  • Corsair STRAFE ($90) - Link
  • Corsair Gaming K70 LUX ($80) - Link
  • CM Storm QuickFire Rapid ($85) - Link

Or, you can go with some cheaper keyboards with Gateron Brown (Here is one that's only $40, but the rather unconventional layout might confuse you).

/r/MechanicalKeyboards is a great resource on this subject, and I really suggest that you check them out.
u/Childs_Play · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Hi so I'm looking for my first mechanical keyboard with brown switches. I'd like to spend under $100. Less than $80 could be pretty good if the quality is there. I don't really need something too customizable yet. I heard the corsairs have bad software on them but they physically look good. Can anyone comment on these keyboards and give their recommendations? I saw the CM Storm Quickfire rapid for cheaper but now it went back up in price so I'm really hesitant to buy it.

Corsair Vengeance K65 $50

Corsair STRAFE $70

Storm QuickFire Rapid Tenkeyless $89

CM Storm QuickFire TK $70

u/Samurai_TwoSeven · 1 pointr/buildapc

My personal favorite keyboard would have to be the Corsair K65/K70/K95. The only difference being 10 key-less/standard/extended with macros.

If those are a bit out of your price range, then the Corsair Strafe would be a slightly more affordable option.

As for mice, that is entirely up to you. My favorite is my Roccat Kone Pure. However, some people are more in favor of the Logitech G502

u/Taroxi · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

Is this a good first mechanical keyboard?
https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-STRAFE-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B012B6X7MI/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1493801265&sr=8-1&keywords=Corsair+strafe+cherry+mx+brown%5C

I don't care about rgb.
I would go for reds, but I like the tactile bump on my dads mx blues.
I would go for blues, but don't like the loudness. So cherry mx brown seems the best for me. :)

I was gonna go for the Corsair K65, but there isn't a Cherry mx brown option... :(

u/EpicTShirt · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

since you game and type you probably wanna go with brown.

here is a pretty good gaming KB: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-STRAFE-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B012B6X7MI/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1500508732&sr=8-2&keywords=strafe&th=1

no keyboard these days is mechanical and doesnt have at least lighting (no RGB), you can turn the lights off tho.
it should be really good for typing as well, since it has brown switches and incredible build quality.

u/SiriuslyOdd · 1 pointr/MechanicalKeyboards

I'm currently attempting to decide between four-five mechanical keyboards. I'm looking for something durable, with brown switches of some kind. I do a lot of typing, but I'm also a casual gamer, and my old logitech scissor-switch board is on its way out. I'll list the keyboards I'm eyeing in a table here. My budget is around 110$. Keyboards are listed from cheapest to most expensive.

Corsair Strafe, red backlight

WASD V2 104-key Barebones

Glorious RGB Modular Mechanical keyboard

Max keyboard Nighthawk Pro X

Corsair K70, red backlight

Thanks in advance!

I have a Corsair Strafe with MX browns, same one seen below. I've had it about 2 months.

u/Dragonknight247 · 1 pointr/buildapc

While I have you, is Corsair a good brand for keyboards? I found a keyboard that looks perfect for me. Corsair is who made my mouse and I love my mouse, but I don't know about their keyboards? Is this a good keyboard you think? Oh, and do you think Brown switches provide a good enough clicky-clacky sound? Thank you so much for your help, I'm ignorant when it comes to keyboards so every bit of help means a lot.

u/max1c · 1 pointr/Tekken

I'm not going to recommend playing Tekken on a keyboard as IMO that's a terrible idea but if you want a good Keyboard get WASD: http://www.wasdkeyboards.com/index.php/products/mechanical-keyboard.html?dir=asc&order=price

Here is another decent mechanical keyboard for a very reasonable price: https://www.amazon.com/Corsair-STRAFE-Mechanical-Gaming-Keyboard/dp/B012B6X7MI/ref=zg_bs_402051011_8?_encoding=UTF8&refRID=GN2GG2268K8TJTNJ4BNH&th=1

Since your budget is limited I would get this for Tekken specifically:
https://www.amazon.com/HORI-Fighting-Commander-PlayStation-Officially-Licensed/dp/B01GVOFIAA/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1487704480&sr=8-1&keywords=fight%2Bcommand

I'd also like to note that there are a ton of mechanical keyboard clones now on the market and it can be super confusing to pick a good one. I would suggest you look at Cherry MX switches only. In addition there are different Cherry switches so I'd suggest doing some research. This will help:

o-rings are modules, just search for gateron clears, and then buy some o-rings on amazon.
I'm afraid that you won't find any gateron clears on any of the mainstream gaming keyboards.

You could buy Cherry MX browns, you'd find them quite easily they are in between linear (nicer for gaming) and tactile (nicer for typing) they are the best of both worlds.

A cool keyboard with browns and backlit (gaming at night ...) : the

u/MonkeyTheMonk · 1 pointr/buildapc

I think the m502 is one of the best mice on the market right now.

There are plenty of good keyboards out there. If typing is your main goal for it, maybe look for one with blue or brown switches, like this.

Amazon has it for a fair price. Depending on which switches you go with will determine how much you pay

u/Kronos_Selai · 1 pointr/buildapc

Indeed I do.

Keyboards- Long story short, I had to spend a few days looking for a keyboard for someone in Spain before. The problem here is getting one with the proper keys. Most keyboards sold are either for English or German when shopping online. I suggest actually buying locally, as almost everything will be on Amazon and you will WANT to test this out in person.

  1. Get a mechanical keyboard. You say "not important" but for a good computer build you really don't want any obvious weak links or what we would call "bottlenecks". In this case, having a shitty and cheap keyboard is a serious detriment. Especially if you use it for prolonged periods of time. If you have a shitty one you are much more likely to get wrist pains, and that fucking sucks. You want your hands to be slightly elevated over your wrists, laid out flat and comfortable. Wrist pads help me out tremendously, and mechanical keys have improved my typing by a factor of 2. Not kidding. Type Red switches are for FPS gaming, and they have a soft and spongy feel. More for holding a key down, versus typing. Type Blue switches are for typing, and have a loud "clicky clack" feel. Pretty awesome, and still able to game with of course. More pressure needed for the keys, so if you do FPS games all day it might be a bit annoying. Type brown are a nice mixture of both, and aren't spongy. I use Brown switches myself, and like I said, I doubled my typing ability with a good keyboard. I use this model myself -> https://es.pcpartpicker.com/product/FQqbt6/gskill-keyboard-gkksr1c3km780s10na the price is WAY off of course, it can be had for $80. It has a modular setup, and an incredibly well designed layout. USB ports, mic in, headphone jack, red backlighting (also comes in RGB), and a fully aluminum build. I could club someone to death with this thing and it would still work. It doesn't wiggle, bounce, or jostle at all, it's fucking NICE. Here's a picture of the setup. http://i.imgur.com/EpUaQ0x.jpg The default pics you find of that board online look gimmicky, but like I said, it's modular.

Other keyboards of note are made by Corsair, Logitech, Eagletek, Cooler Master, "Cherry" (they make the switches I talked about), Das Keyboard (I think that's the name), Steel Series...that sort of crap. Avoid Razer, they are plasticky shit.

Here's a good one I found but it's in english https://www.amazon.es/dp/B012B6X7MI/?tag=pcp02-21 As I said, it's tough to find one in espanol. Look locally, it's easier.

Ok, for mice... I strongly urge you to go Logitech. They make the best mice out there in my opinion. The G502 is tops https://es.pcpartpicker.com/product/VfYXsY/logitech-mouse-910004074 I personally use the G300s but it's a bit small. Advantages of a GOOD gaming mouse are things like...

  2. Adjustable DPI (sensitivity) on the fly.

  3. Multiple profiles that you can swap between on the fly.

  4. More buttons, all programmable. Very useful.

  5. Weight. You don't want a lightweight plasticky piece of shit (Razer COUGH).

  6. Adjustable weight. The G502 has this. My old mouse had that too. Felt fucking GOOD.

Other mice of note? Corsair makes good stuff too. Zowie apparently is really nice as well.

Oh here, https://es.pcpartpicker.com/product/29V48d/logitech-mouse-910003584 they make good wireless mice now. There are tons of options, but some are actually nicer than wired, which used to never be the case.

At the very minimum, buy this https://es.pcpartpicker.com/product/pWh9TW/gigabyte-mouse-gmm6800 I used it for years as a backup. It's very comfy and pretty good, but it's not anywhere near the higher end Logitech stuff.

Trust me, you might scoff and say it's excessive, but how do you use a computer? With your hands and eyes. You wouldn't skimp on a monitor, and a good mouse and keyboard are almost just as important. Otherwise you end up like me when I'm on my shitty fucking laptop. Mad and ready to give up because it's such a pain in the ass to type with.

I use the Corsair "mousepad" but it's more like a keyboard and mouse pad for the entire desk. Keeps it all clean, and it's very well made. $15.

I got a corsair mechanical keyboard with cherry MX switches and thought it would make the world of difference when typing. I don't know, maybe I'm not the mechanical keyboard guy or something cause I don't really like it. I would prefer a regular keyboard over a mechanical keyboard anyway. Maybe it's just the keyboard I got.
