Yes. One thing you'll quickly find out about the FF fandom is that opinions will vary wildly. It's best to just pick one of the more well-regarded games and go with it.

I personally dislike FFX quite a bit, but I still agree with /u/NoLeafClover777 that it is probably one of the best places to start for a newbie.

I have a hard time finding physical copies for more than $25 now, even less used.

The 'same' deal that amazon.com has, now in Canadian pesos.

It depends on what is most convenient for you. Everyone has their favorite Final Fantasy's for various reasons (mine happen to be VI, VII and X).

Many of the games have come out on the PC through Steam recently so if you don't mind playing them on PC, that's the best way to go. There was also an HD Remaster for X and X-2 that released on the PS4.

You can also buy many of them on the Google Play or iOS app stores. Although playing them on your phone or tablet isn't the "best" way to experience the games, it can be a convenient way to play on the go.

Both FF12 & FF10 can be found for $20 USD on PS4, I love portability but not for an extra $30. A middle ground would've been okay for me.

Edit: Would you look at that, even cheaper on Amazon! Although you'll have to wait a bit.

And here is FF-12

Please explain to me how there isn't a "Nintendo Switch Tax" on these products?

The great thing about these remasters is that they drop in price really fast. I bought Final Fantasy X/X-2 HD Remaster brand new from Amazon for dirt cheap: https://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-Remaster-Standard-Playstation-4/dp/B00QU47SJG/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1473196924&sr=1-1&keywords=final+fantasy+x

not sure why your antivirus is freaking out, but this is linked to directly from the amazon promo. you can see it on the ffx remastered page, if nowhere else.

so yea YOU are wrong

u/XStreamGamer247 · 1 pointr/PS4

And FFX/X-2 are still $25...

I could probably find it on Amazon or at Gamestop for ~$20 at this point...

Edit: I was right about Amazon at least.

It was for awhile because it was without a date. That's what it always says in the year of release before a date is announced. http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-X-2-HD-Remaster-PlayStation/dp/B00QU47SJG

u/reaper527 · 1 pointr/PS4

amazon has it listed at $50 right now.

http://www.amazon.com/Final-Fantasy-X-2-HD-Remaster-PlayStation/dp/B00QU47SJG/ref=sr_1_1?s=videogames&ie=UTF8&qid=1425403215&sr=1-1&keywords=final+fantasy+10

of course, this may or may not be place holder pricing (as it definitely has the place holder release date still).

also, as far as pricing goes, it's worth keeping an eye on amazon. i preordered natural doctrine for ps4 on there for $40, and it came with a $10 gift certificate effectively making the game $30. kh3 was also on a 24 hour preorder sale on amazon.

> Then again, I've never played any of the FF#'s including the famous FF7 and the newer FF10-13. What exactly makes these games fun in the first place? Still trying to figure that point out lol.

I mean, what makes any game fun? Just gotta find what you get joy out of and look for games that suit your tastes. I grew up on Final Fantasy and loved the fantastical stories wrapped up with fun and interesting casts of characters. There are some thematic things that carry over from one game to the next, but the numbered games don't connect to one another as sequels or whatever, so which games from the series you enjoy usually boils down to preference. Especially since the series basically reinvents itself with every new game.

>Oh and the good old rpg tropes of warriors and mages and archers was great too.

Normally I'd suggest picking up the FFX remaster that came out not too long ago and giving it a shot, because I just think it's the series' peak in character development and storytelling. But if the old school fighter/mage/thief trifecta more appeals to you, you might consider FF9 instead, which is my second favorite game in the series.

>Heard a lot about this, never played a persona title before. Can you give me the run down on why it's fun?

It's half Shin Megami Tensei (dark, demony fusing goodness) and half dating sim. You get the grindy micromanagement for half the game, and the other half is dedicated to attending school and getting to know your companions (and usually potentially dating one of them by the end of the game).

>because western rpgs 1. too much horror-religious-gothic-skulls-and-bones stuff (you know exactly what I'm talking about)

Depends on where you're looking. Mass Effect is a classic scifi space opera. Deus Ex and the most recent Shadowrun games are solidly cyberpunk. Fallout is post-apocalyptic.

>2. none of them have party systems

This is where you're going to have to dip more into CRPGs. Pillars of Eternity. The recent Tyrrany. I mentioned Shadowfall just above. It's definitely something I miss from most WRPGs though, I like the banter and depth of story granted from playing with party NPCs.

>except dragon age inquisition which I played and it sucks dick.

I'm not entirely sure what you hated about DAI since you didn't elaborate, but I do agree that the game was pretty lacking. If you liked the promise of DAI but didn't like the execution, you might go back and try Dragon Age: Origins. It's not perfect, but the game has a hell of a lot more soul than DAI does.

Its $50 on the playstation store, and a quick amazon search shows they have no new copies physically
