Not a "smart home" solution, but I have a keypad installed in addition to my all the automation I use. Cheap and easy to install.


For myself I do device tracking to open / close the garage and can trigger it remotely if needed. Keypad is just a backup. If you're using something like Home Assistant you could track your friends phone, but if you're talking a lot of different people that could be more effort than it's worth.
