I'm glad I bought my 1080ti when I did. How much are you willing to spend?

I built a small system for my girl friend's kids and used a GTX 1050 which actually runs the game on medium settings fine with the expected frame drop in congested areas. These are still relatively affordable despite bitcoin miners.

You can get a 1050ti for around $250, but I see a 1060 on Amazon for $259.

I would stick with Nvidia regardless though.

I would say this is a better deal since its priced the same, you will get free shipping and its a full size/dual fan card

u/friedeggman · 5 pointsr/buildapcsales

The 3GB is probably a better deal at $259.99, in stock on the 22nd. https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeForce-Windforce-Graphics-GV-N1060WF2OC-3GD/dp/B01KQUDE2Y/

Don’t forget you are paying $50 a year just to play multiplayer. Here is the link to the graphics card at ~$250. I’d recommended getting the 6gb for a few dollars more though.

u/GhostBond · 3 pointsr/buildapc

Also the 1050 is an ok card, but the 1060 is a much much faster and more future-resistant card compared to the 1050 and it doesn't cost that much more.

Amazon lists one for $145:
https://www.amazon.com/MSI-GeForce-GTX-1060-3G/dp/B07Q5C1W4X/

And another for $210:
https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeForce-Windforce-GDDR5-Graphics/dp/B01KQUDE2Y/

Sorry to go the wrong way on this lol...you just mentioned you want it to last a long time...suppose if you're never running anything other than age of empires you're probably fine with the 1050.

Did a quick newegg search. If you can get these cards for a decent amount cheaper from someone on hws, then I would buy.

Also, if you are willing to pay ~$200, you could look into a gtx 1060
https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeForce-Windforce-Graphics-GV-N1060WF2OC-3GD/dp/B01KQUDE2Y/ref=sr_1_4?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1496965305&sr=1-4&keywords=gtx+1060
Or a gtx 970 like azn_dude1 mentioned.

u/bertcox · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Go in there and try to get them to price match euro pricing.

This is the pricier, but better option for GPU.

This is the cheaper, but worse option for GPU.

I've been looking through graphics cards and I think I've narrowed it down. However, I just want to make sure that my friend was right that my processor wouldn't bottleneck.

My processor is i5-4440 @3.10 GHz (4CPUs)

Here are the two cards i'm stuck in between if my processor doesn't bottleneck.
One and Two

Edit: Updated RX580 link

u/RetardedChimpanzee · 1 pointr/computers

I would recommend a 1050/1060 over a 960. they will be much better, and you usually can get one for the same price.

Your current GPU is quite old and outdated. Your CPU is old, but not terrible.

Edit: actually read your post, if it got slower probably is your hard drive. Get a SSD and put your OS on it, if you can afford get a big enough one for your games, if not put your games on your old drive.

Edit: I’m confused with the downvotes, of what there is to disagree with.

GTX 960 - DISCONTINUED - USED - $250+

GTX 1060: $219

From GPU Boss 1060 kicks ass in every category.

FACT: SSDs are faster

FACT: SSDs are more expensive

u/Gus_TheAnt · 1 pointr/iRacing

This would be a better one, GTX 1060.

Any model boost clock option will do. Get whichever one is in your price point, and don't worry about the 3GB vs 6GB option unless you plan on running 3+ monitors in 4K.

Also what motherboard are you planning on getting? You need to make sure the motherboard you choose has the correct CPU socket for your CPU. Personally I would recommend getting an Intel i5, with socket LGA1150 or LGA1151. There are newer model i5's, but these will still get the job done and don't cost a lot.

EDIT: Also my computer specs are less than what you have listed (GTX 770, Intel i5 4430, 8GB DDR3 RAM) and I can run iR almost maxed out at a constant locked framerate of 70FPS.

u/LabyrinthConvention · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

Hi, would you consider a GTX 1060? Outstanding performance and lots of future proofing. Reviews show the 1060 to beats the old GTX 970 and practically equal to the 980 on average (but not the Ti of course). Selling my 3 week new Gigabyte GTX 1060 3GB OC Windforce, in box, w receipt, docs, warranty etc.

> Personally, I'm not one to drool over all the 4k whatever stuff that the PS4 Pro allows.

The only native 4k you will ever get on a PS4 Pro is perhaps 4k video playback, if you wish to use it as a media center. It does not have the capability to run games in native 4k, even by a long shot.

What you're going to read online, that you will play games in 4k on it are pure marketing lies, just the way they always write them to deceive less tech-savvy customers. The only thing it does, is artificially upscale the resolution from 1080p to 4k, which doesn't even come close to outputting the game at true, native 4k. You could call it fake 4k, if you like.

> If I'm building a PC, I want it to be better than a console. I want it to run faster and look better than a console, and not need to be upgraded after a year or two.

And it will. PC parts don't deteriorate over time. If you build a PC that outperforms a PS4 Pro right now, which isn't really hard to do for $600, it's going to outperform it one year from now, two years from now and for the rest of the life of the PS4 Pro.

> You are right about the online and cheaper games, but you're not mentioning that you will need to upgrade that $400-600 build in a year or two, while that's not really an issue with consoles, unless you consider the PS4 Pro as a huge upgrade.

You won't necessarily need to upgrade your PC. You have the option to, but not an obligation. Like I said before, if you begin with a PC that outperforms the latest consoles, you're good to go for at least as long as that console's lifecycle is still running (e.g. games are developed for it).

Which brings me to another benefit of playing on the PC - options. Graphical, to be specific. You can always play around with a dozen different settings to optimize your gaming experience the way you want it. Feel like fps is getting a bit low in some parts? Lower some setting. Don't forget that the graphical settings used on console are almost always equivalent to the Low - Low/Medium preset on the PC. And on the PC, you're always in control of the graphical fidelity triangle.

Of course, everything depends on your budget. If you wish to go above $600, that's up to you. So let's take a look at the part list you've sent. For the GPU, I'd definitely advise you to go for the 10 series GPUs. The 1050 is about 50% better than the 950 for the same price. EDIT: actually, no! Scratch that. If you wish to go for the ~$170 range, your absolute best bet is the RX 470. It has a great price/performance ratio and in some benchmarks even comes close the the 1060 performance.

And lastly, if your budget allows you, you could even go for the 1060, which is even better than my 970, and would be an absolute beast for 1080p gaming. This would be particularly useful in case you'd want VR, as the 1060 supports it, unlike the RX 470.

I'll leave that decision to you, just know that the RX 470 will already decimate any console out there.

The rest of your build is well picked out, nothing to change there. If you currently own a console, don't forget you can use its HDD in your PC as well, if you wish. Oh and if you're going to play on your TV at first, make sure to use your PS4 controller on your PC. It will work with it just fine.

u/stoolblood · 1 pointr/buildapc

I would try to find a 1060 3gb in that same price range if you aren't in a hurry. amazon has one for $279 pre-order and it is worth spending the extra $30 over the 1050ti imo.

u/Cplumber4 · 1 pointr/buildapc

I found this card that is going for $220

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KQUDE2Y/ref=twister_B01M0681S0?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I know that basically every 1060 has very similar performance, so is there any reason not to go with this card because it is super cheap and I personally love the look.

u/Lunixed · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

I have a 1060 3gb wind force, mint condition, never mined, still under warranty, never registered, and it comes with its original box. If you're interested, 170$ shipped.

I'm debating between this GTX 1060 3gb or save some money and get a GTX 1050ti... but not sure tbh, so I'm open to other suggestions as well

Which GPU should I get around $200?? I saw this one and also this one, but my previous card was a sapphire r9 390 and it died after only 2 years, so I don't feel good buying from those dudes again. Which manufacturer do you recommend for the rx 580?

u/nagynorbie · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Holy sh!t, you're right. I was going to suggest the rx470, but the 1060 3gb has really dropped in price.

Buy this

u/poochyenarulez · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

the cheapest, honestly https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeForce-Windforce-Graphics-GV-N1060WF2OC-3GD/dp/B01KQUDE2Y/ looks good

They are about the same, only main difference is size. You generally want a bigger one with better cooling rather than a tiny one unless you don't have the room in your case.

u/RelativelyCoolBeans · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Okay, it's not in bad shape.
The CPU should be fine with ample cooling. Whatever you have now will probably still be fine.
An Rx580 will work well with that CPU, [here's] (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qeFkTfif56c) a video of someone playing lowest settings in BF1 at 1080p and getting 120+fps.
Also, another thing to consider is getting a GTX 1060. For the most part, the Rx580 and the GTX 1060 are pretty similar spec-wise, but the 1060 is pretty significantly cheaper. [Here's] (https://www.amazon.com/Gigabyte-GeForce-Windforce-Graphics-GV-N1060WF2OC-3GD/dp/B01KQUDE2Y/ref=sr_1_15?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1510621572&sr=1-15&keywords=rx+580) a good one to consider.
But, you have to consider your PSU. You have to look at the side of the unit itself and look for a 3 digit number with a 'W' at the end. That will be the wattage it can handle, and will help you tell if you need a beefier one.
If you believe your HDD is about to go, you might as well pick up a new one. Look for a 1tb (if that's big enough for you) 7200rpm 3.5in. Those only run for about $50. Now, altogether you'd be looking at about $275 for more storage and a brand new card compared to what your friend was offering.
One last thing to ask of you. Do you have any idea how much RAM there is? If not, look inside the case and look on the side of the RAM for a number with MB at the end. That will tell you how much you have.
That's all you need to know, then plug all your parts into a pcpartpicker.com list and it will give you and estimated wattage.
Sorry this is really long, hope it helps though!

u/vnvnymvvs · 0 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

If I'm gonna spend $270 I think il buy this instead. https://www.amazon.ca/Gigabyte-GeForce-Windforce-Graphics-GV-N1060WF2OC-3GD/dp/B01KQUDE2Y/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1506278807&sr=8-1&keywords=gigabyte+geforce+gtx+1060. It has double fans and noise is a big issue for me. I realize that gigabyte warranty service is not the best, but if something happens Amazon will help me.

u/xbruteplayz · 0 pointsr/pcmasterrace

I'm actually not really sure about how their performance compares, but I do see a major price difference.

You can buy a gtx 1060 (better than a 970) for $200

You can get a second hand 970 in the $200 range as well. I bought mine 2nd hand at $180 last year. Learn how to google for prices before you bitch and moan about them. The 1060 is very cheap but if $200 is too much for you then you won't be playing any of the newer games with good performance.

970 is the average graphics card for steam users as per the last steam survey.
