Doing video capture for a video game is a bad idea it will look like crap and usually lag a bit.

what i would suggect is but one of these and this cable so you hit the button it will show your pc hit the button again and it will switch to your xbox with no lag.

This looks right if you want to do what he does in the video. You would need a 3.5mm male to male if you did it this way.

You can skip that part and get stereo femal to 3.5mm male like this cable instead. So get that, and get the VGA to DVID. adapter.

You also need the the actual xbox to VGA cable, obviously.

Basically you would buy this from Amazon and use the splitter cable that comes with the X11's to plug the Xbox into VGA port of the monitor and switch back and forth from DVI for PC and VGA for XBOX.

Also purchase this in order to tie your xbox audio into the built-in speakers in case you don't want to use your headset.

I've used this exact setup for both of my nephews :)

Why not use one of these:

With a VGA to DVI adapter? You'll get RCA cables for the audio that way.

I bought an off brand one to save me 30 dollars. How'd you get it to run 720? This is what I have

If you are purchasing this cable from Amazon, then you just need to find a way to get the sound from the red and white ends of the cable to the green plug from your speakers.

In addition to theHelsico's response, there are first-party Xbox 360 VGA cables. You can find an example of the product on Amazon. This will be better quality than the yellow RCA input, but you're less likely to have one lying around.

Again, sound will need to be directed to an external device.

hdmi won't matter, this is using the normal output. you won't be able to tell the difference if there even is any.

this is the cable you will need http://www.amazon.com/SANOXY-Premium-Digital-Microsoft-equipment/dp/B0030CGMAC/ref=sr_1_1?rps=1&ie=UTF8&qid=1345857433&sr=8-1&keywords=xbox+vga+cable

then for the audio you will need an rca to micro plug adapter
something like this http://www.amazon.com/Belkin-Audio-Cable-Splitter-1-Mini/dp/B00004Z5CP/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1345857518&sr=1-1&keywords=rca+to+3.5mm with these to bridge the cable http://www.amazon.com/Female-to-3-RCA-Coupler/dp/B002B8WVVU/ref=sr_1_1?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1345857578&sr=1-1&keywords=rca+female+to+female

or you could use something like this http://www.amazon.com/C2G-Cables-Go-Stereo-Adapter/dp/B000J1H4VI/ref=sr_1_5?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1345857518&sr=1-5&keywords=rca+to+3.5mm

i would then run the 3.5mm cable through the input on my computers soundcard and have windows listen to that and output through my default output. that way I could control the sound with my keyboard. since I had 2 monitors, and the one I was using had a dvi and vga input, I would just switch the input in the monitor settings (on the actual monitor, not within windows) and it would display the game on my main monitor and I could still use my second monitor to look things up on my computer. now since I have DaS for PC, I don't need to do that anymore, just running it in windowed mode :D

I don't have a widescreen monitor (that I'd be willing to sell/trade), but I do have a 1708FPb Dell 17" flat screen panel. It's in like-new condition, and has not been used that much.

It's a little smaller than what you're looking for, and it's 4:3 aspect ratio (which is probably not exactly what you want), but hey, I'd trade it for something if you were interested.

You can easily hook your xbox up to it. However, you will need the vga adapter. Looks like they're pretty cheap, though.

That TV does not support HDMI so your standard cable will not work.

TV Input Layout : http://www.manualslib.com/manual/325049/Sony-Fwd-42pv1.html?page=7#manual

These are the following cable hookups for 360:

http://support.xbox.com/en-US/xbox-360/system/connect-xbox-360-console-tv

As far as the TV goes there should be manual buttons on it (Top right) (see link - http://www.manualslib.com/manual/325049/Sony-Fwd-42pv1.html?page=8#manual). Go into Menu and change the input manually. Alternatively there may be an Input button on the TV. Try that.

Let me know.

EDIT: This method will probably work for you: You will need a Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable. Follow these steps: (You will need a cable like this: http://www.amazon.com/Importer520-Premium-Digital-Microsoft-equipment/dp/B0030CGMAC/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1410821501&sr=8-4&keywords=xbox+vga)

Connect Xbox 360: Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable

The Xbox 360 VGA HD AV Cable is not usually included in Xbox 360 console bundles. If your display requires this cable, you need to purchase it separately. If you already have the cable but your display does not have a VGA port, you can purchase an adapter.

Connect the A/V connector on the VGA cable to the A/V port on the console.
Connect the VGA connector on the VGA cable to the VGA port on your HDTV or monitor.
Connect the left and right (white and red) audio connectors on the VGA cable to the audio port on the monitor.
Turn on the TV and console.

If you do not see the Xbox Dashboard when you turn on your TV and console, you might need to select the video input
The console automatically uses the default display settings. If you want to try to improve the video display, you can change the settings on the console.

Maybe this?

I have my xbox hooked up to the VGA/RCA connectors on my Plasma (old school) and get no lag audio or video...

Something like that for your PS3 - YMMV
