I use this blender. It grinds up all the fruit I put in it. It needs a little liquid at the bottom to really get it going, or something that will tightly fit around the blades. It's only one speed, and single serving. I live alone and that's all I ever need.

I use it for fruit smoothies or for making a post-workout smoothies.

I had a personal blender (this one) and I loved it. I was able to get crunchy things like cacao nibs to be almost imperceptible by blending them for a minute with just milk, then adding the fruit. The best part about it was that I bought it for $5 at my local thrift store.

That said, I recently got a Vitamix for my birthday, and it's a total game changer. It blends things down to a perfect consistency. I make fresh almond milk that is so good I don't even put it in smoothies, I just drink it plain. It truly is the Porsche of blenders.

I don't think it's a really necessary piece of kitchen equipment, though it is sexy and works really well. I'd rather have a KitchenAid mixer or food processor. You can't really make salsa in the Vitamix.

veggies, fruits, nuts and my secret weapon, YOGURT! if lactose is a problem, drink/eat kefir instead. if you buy one of those fage greek yogurt tubes from costco, just eat a spoonful when you feel hungry. it won't be satisfying, but it'll make the hunger go away. it does for me anyway.

my ultimate hunger satisfier is a smoothie. it's easy to make and so fast with healthy ingredients. i just add 6-7 frozen strawberries, half handful of frozen blueberries, some kefir, put a bam! of flaxseed, protein powder (chocolate), and organic milk. then i just use one of these bad boys i bought from amazon to mix everything up and it's ready in 30 seconds. the whole process takes less than a minute. of course you can substitute or add/take out any ingredients for example, you can add juice, nuts, ice, skim milk, mangoes, apples, carrots, veggies, etc etc. but seriously, whenever i get hungry this does the trick. i usually just drink this for dinner sometimes cuz it's so yummy.

This is the blender I bought. 12 ounces of water, 2 scoops of powder, and about 10 or 12 frozen cherries. The scoop was engraved saying 1 scoop was 1/2 a serving. If the entire bag is 5 meals then 2 scoops per meal seems about right.
