Probably grey market - a key from a corporate deployment that's being resold. It could be disabled at any time. I guess it's a calculated risk.

This is going to sound like a sales pitch, but if you need everything it does then a subscription is a good value. Personally, I can afford it and more people in my family other than me need it, so I got the 5 person / 15 device plan for $100 / year. That's cheaper than Netflix and everyone gets 1TB of Onedrive each.

I put a bunch of stuff in Onedrive and keep it fully synced it to a computer for a (both ways) backup. Onedrive works great on my Windows and Mac computers and on my iPhone. Having Excel, Word, and Powerpoint on my iPhone is also awesome since I have an XS Max and a nice portable keyboard.

My one bit of advise, skip the keyboard case and get a nice small bluetooth keyboard, and one or more cases of your choice. I've had several generations of iPads and a few Keyboard cases in my time. They are more expensive and have consistently broken on me. Of all the separate keyboards I've had, not one has broken, I've taken them with me between devices, and they've lasted years. You can buy far more or less protective cases, as you wish.

Just some recommendations:

The Microsoft is my favorite, but no longer available. the iClever foldable is my newest and I'm getting to like it quite a bit.

The only argument I can make for the 4G iPad is that it also includes GPS capabilities. If you want to use it for navigation, photography with geotagging, or any other location-dependent activity, you might want to consider it. It also grabs a slightly higher resale value.

The Pro gets you the Pencil, faster speeds, more memory, slightly better screen, larger sizes. If you don't need any of these, then no reason to get the Pro. The iPad can do anything a Pro model can do, except for hardware differences (Pencil compatibility and True Tone screen).

The iPad (any model) can handle note taking and basic office productivity very well. Apple's iWork apps are the "smoothest" and fit the iPad the best. But Microsoft Office is not far behind. Google's apps are shoe-horned to work with the iPad and the least "iPad like" IMHO. But since all are basically free to download and try I'd say give them all a chance.

I would recommend getting the 128G. You can't upgrade later and some day you may wish you had the space, especially for movies and the like. Transferring to and from the cloud can be a chore.

Had a 4s, tend to alternate generations between IOS and Android. Waiting for the iPhone 8. Btw, if you don't have a folding keyboard for your devices, here's one I've used with my iPads and Android phone. Love it. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01JA6HG88/ (guessing however that you're already equipped)

If you want a keyboard that isn't integrated into a cover, then this is the way to go.

I have one. It's brilliant. Absolutely brilliant. I usually hate compact keyboards because it's such a pain to type on them and they aren't very portable, despite their size, but this solves that problem magnificently and in a way that provides for extremely compact storage. I'm having to retrain my hands somewhat to accommodate the shape, but even now when I'm typing on it, it FEELS much larger than it really is.

They still sell them, in fact you can get an ergonomic bluetooth version on Amazon. I've had my ergo for years and it is amazing on the road with just a phone and a dock... just dont try to speed type as it gets laggy and misses letters.

I bought this to throw in my backpack: https://www.amazon.com/iClever-Wireless-Rechargeable-Bluetooth-Smartphones/dp/B01JA6HG88/ref=sr_1_6

It’s a fairly nice little keyboard. Nothing too fancy, but I can type at a pretty normal speed on it. The biggest perk is that it’s insanely light, so I never really notice that it’s in my bag. Battery is great, too; I haven’t charged it in months.
