I don't have cat allergies myself so I can't attest to this personally, but I've heard that using bath wipes in addition to brushing helps.
A lot of normal groomers will take cats that are groomer friendly. Honestly though most of the time cat don't need a groomer unless they have long hair and even then they usually just need to be brushed out.
I had a couple terrible experience with my long hair cat before I finally just started doing it myself, it wasn't worth having a stressed out cat because of an impatient groomer, or a facility not equipped for cats where he was put in a cage next to dogs.
Like someone else said, if you want to cut their hair you can do it yourself with some electric clippers, just take your time and have patience with your cat. If they need a bath there are a lot of really good water free products out for cats now that are better for them then a full bath.
Cats have oils in their hair that using soap would destroy. Those oils help keep their skin from getting to dry and agitated.

I don’t think it’s any worse that anything else he does to his fur. If it really worries you you might get cat bath wipes. Something like this

You might want to try wipes or this one to reduce the dander, which is usually the cause of cat allergies.
