Yep! I use this one. I considered the one you linked, but got the metal one simply because it was cheaper at the time. Both would get the job done.


I have it connected to my k40 via 4" dryer hose and this flange hose fitting which fits perfectly in the slot on the back of the k40.


Used these clamps to secure the dryer tubing together.


As far as how well it works, I'm pretty satisfied. I have the exhaust blowing out a 4" fitting attached to a board I close in my window. I smell a little bit of burnt wood when cutting, but it's very minute. Almost all smoke goes out the window. The suction is very good, if I'm cutting card stock it occasionally sucks the small paper pieces right off the cutting bed. When I'm doing laser alignments, it almost completely eliminates the smell of burning masking tape during test firing even with the door open.

A garage is a good choice as long as it's not freezing in there when you're operating the printer. Most resins need to be between 30 to 40C to cure optimally. Some printers have heaters specifically to keep the resin nice and fluid. So, bear that in mind when you make your choice.

I honestly don't know how dangerous the fumes are, but you won't want to breathe it after you sniff it anyway. Most UV resin has a burned plastic-like smell. It is fairly acrid and no one recommends breathing it, of course. I personally find it pretty intolerable.

That said, the fumes are easy to control if you choose a sealed machine (one without any holes in the case) such as the Peopoly Moai. Sealed machines can sit with resin in the vat essentially forever without leaking any fumes, which means you don't need to have active ventilation on the machine while it's printing or just sitting idle. Machines that do have ventilation, such as the Anycubic Photon, will require either a well-ventilated room (again, a garage is ideal) or they'll need to be connected to a duct to a window while in operation. You can cover the vents on most of those machines when the machine isn't in use.

Most of the fumes that you'll be exposed to are during clean up when you remove parts from the build plate and wash them in isopropyl alcohol or methanol to remove the uncured resin. This is a messy, smelly, and slightly dangerous business that involves sharp blades and splashing. Some people like to wear a respirator for this. I don't use a respirator, but only because I have a fairly powerful ventilation system. I keep my SLA printer in a small 10'x10' repurposed bedroom which normally has terrible ventilation, so I operate a 6" inline duct HVAC fan with a duct to a window. That fan easily clears the air in the room in just a few minutes. And if I run the duct directly over my cleaning vats, I can't even smell the alcohol fumes. So if you're going to do your cleanup in a small area like that, then I highly recommend some kind of ducted ventilation system.

Your cleaning station can also be tailored to contain fumes. I highly suggest buying at least three cheap rectangular 1-gallon tupperware containers with tight lids (like these). Use one of them as a drip-tray while removing parts from the build plate, use a second for alcohol cleaning, and use a third for water rinse. The lids will keep the fumes contained, and it'll save your alcohol from evaporating. It's cheap and effective.

Just a side note, during cleanup, it's absolutely mandatory to wear eye protection and disposable gloves. Get used to idea of using a lot of gloves. I buy them in lots of 1000.

That is your problem then dude! You HAVE to use this kind of fan for your exhaust, those 20$ dont create any static pressure so they cannot move enough air through ducting or a filter.

Yeah, that makes sense. Everything I've read says the once per minute is for heat not smell but heat I'm not worried about right now since it's winter. I might just get a 6" fan and use my 4" filter/hose for now until I need it. This will give me 175 CFM with my 4" stuff and over 400 if I upgrade to 6" later.

This is what I have, but I think this might be a good option too. I've heard of the second brand before, just no experience with it or the built in controller.

In my opinion, you want to keep your controllers and your hardware separate whenever possible. Hardware wears out and breaks down. Controllers usually don't. One day your blower will shit the bed. You want to be able to swap it out quickly and inexpensively. It's cheaper and easier to do this with simple component hardware.

Looking at your schematic: I would use blower like this for the HPS lights. I would draw air in from outdoors, blow it through both hoods with the bulbs facing into the windstream, and then vent it right back outdoors. I would not use any kind of filter on the hoods.

For the tent I would use an 8" blower and filter like this. I would attach the filter directly to the blower and mount it inside the tent. I would draw my air from my cool room with a passive intake, and return it to the cool room with the blower exhaust. I think this arrangement would be the best for controlling heat, odor and humidity. Good luck! I hope you have a successful grow!

Booster fan + 1000w hps = heat stress and shit yield as you already experienced.

That tent is also too small for a 1000w. 4x4 or 5x5 is way more appropriate. Go for a 600 or 400 in that closet space.

You do know there's complete tent builds made up in the sidebar, right?
