13. Spring Wire & Lock Channel - Greenhouse Spring Lock & U-Channel Bundle (40)

    Features:
  • 6.5 ft length 1.25"W, 0.5"H, 1/16" thick profile High-quality Aluminum Lock Channel We will usually send your order on the same day or one day later, generally you will receive it within 3~7 days, depending on your location.
  • This is the second generation of aluminum greenhouse lock channel made by SHANS. It is precisely manufactured by a experienced factory and the subsequent cutting is performed by a precision saw, so you can see that the cross section of the product is very smooth without any deformation.
  • Our second generation products have undergone many upgrades. The thickness of the aluminum channel is increased to make it stronger and it does not break when bended. The internal space of the aluminum channel is optimized, and the right-angle protrusion is removed to make the internal space more complete, which makes the installation and removal of the spring wire more convenient. The reasonable inclination angle makes the spring wire more firmly held.
  • The oxidized outer layer is strengthened so SHANS products have a longer service life in bad weather. Accurate air-cooling quenching technology improves the hardness of the outer layer of the aluminum channel, thereby improving the resistance of the aluminum channel to strong wind and makes your greenhouse safer.
  • SHANS designs and holds product shape patents.

This is still a work in progress

Details:

Essential shoping list (to me)

-[6" fan and carbon filter]
(https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B008NYF8S4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1) works great, no smell, plenty of airflow, relatively loud at 100%, virtually silent when turned down to below 30% with some sound absorbing foam around the intake and fan. 4" would have worked for my small setup. I'm pushing through the filter which is outside my grow area with no problems. Don't forget some ducting and real duct tape. Clamps aren't really needed at these speeds and pressures if you have good tape, but they won't hurt.

-[Speed controller for fan.] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B006NGI2RS/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o06_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) This was definitely overkill, I just didn't trust cheaper voltage regulators, plus I can and have used it for other things. Pretty well made, works great.

-[pH meter.] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00CMFVXMA/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) I didn't want to cheap out on this since pH is so important. Meter works great. Only note is you probably want to get some extra storage solution, it only comes with a little, and after a few months you'll run out.

-Light was a Viparspectra 300 (130 actual watts). Worked well, had good growth. I added more light later but for my small space that would have probably given me decent yields.

-[This timer for lights] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01MYOD58S/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) was super easy to program and hasn't failed. It has a bright blue LED indicating if the timer is sending power to the lights which is nice, but I had to tape over it because it was so bright. Also, the timer gets a little warm which makes me a little uneasy since I only have ~250 watts going through it.

-General Hydroponics FloraGrow, FloraMicro, FloraBloom, CaliMagic. I also got Fox Farms Big Bloom part way through flower but don't have any way to know its actual benefits so it's not an essential.

-Coco for growing medium. Most people add perlite, I didn't.

-7 gal smart pot

-Plastic storage container with a kitchen cooling rack to sit the pot into and onto and allow drainage without making a mess. Cooling rack allows for 1/2" of water to accumulate before the pot is sitting in it.

-[adjustable hangers for lights.] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0098R0600/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1) Work great, easy to use

Set up and process

  • In a closet that's 1.8' x 1.8' x 6'

  • Temperatures between 72 F and 80 F. When I measure temp at the bottom of my canopy it's consistently about 5 degrees F below the temp at the top near my fan outlet. I have to use A/C in the room to keep it from moving up to 80 or a bit higher.

  • Humidity between 40% and 60%

  • Coco with about 30% peat moss which included time release nutrients. I didn't want the added nutes and tried running water through it for a few hours to clear it out, but I highly doubt that did anything. I wish I had waited a few days to ship pure peat moss so I could know exactly what nutrients were going into the plant. I picked peat moss because I wanted my pot to hold more water. I'm not sure if this was a good thing or not.

  • 7 gallon smart pot, only ~5.5 gal full though. I'm glad I went with the bigger pot since my plant is so tall and top heavy now. I have read that if you want to go bigger for the pot it's better to go deeper than wider because of the root structure, but I don't know.

  • I sprouted the seed using the paper towel method. Took a few days. Next time I'll probably use the water in a shot glass method.

  • I put the sprouted seed right into the 7 gal smart pot which probably wasn't a great idea. I also watered the entire pot for the first couple weeks which probably was bad. I should have started in a small container and transplant, or at least only water a small area around the seedling at first.

  • I put a bag seed in the same pot and sprouted it because I was dumb and bored. It sprouted and actually got to about 2.5 weeks old before I pulled the trigger and dug it up and transplanted it into it's own 5 gal smart pot. It wasn't happy for a few days because I know I damaged the roots in order to try to avoid the roots of the main plant. I let it grow in the new pot until about 4 weeks then I ran out of room in my closet and trashed the entire plant. Terrible idea all around.

  • Viparspectra 300 initially, then around day 50 of veg I added ~100 watts of CFL. At 40 days after the 12/12 flip I added a galaxy hydro 300 and took out the CFLs (we'll see if that was a good idea...)

  • Veg for 60 days after sprouting. Good idea if you have the vertical space and time. Veg took a long time because I waited too long and the first time I topped I took off like 3 or 4 sets of growth tips, it was like a whole mini plant. I don't know if waiting so long helped the plant develop more roots and a bigger stem which facilitated faster growing or if it was just wasted time. I'm going top it earlier next time though.

  • I topped it twice to get kind of a manifold. The height and size of the colas were not dependent on where it's branch started which makes me doubt the need of a symmetrical manifold, which this was not.

  • Defoliated a little around the 12/12 flip, a lot during about 20-30 days after flipping which left the plant with virtually no fan leaves with stems longer than 1". This was all great, next time I'll probably defoliate earlier.

  • I had to go out of town for 10 days just after the 12/12 flip. I raised up the lights, but not enough and one cola grew into a CFL and killed the top. I cut the top off and now the lower flowers are growing a bit bigger and taller than their partners on other colas, just no top. Also, I only got an automatic watering system set up the night before I left and it didn't water as much as I wanted, plus the pH drifted a lot while I was gone. I started with the pH low to try to mitigate it rising, which I expected. I was expecting the plant to really be struggling, but she looked great actually.

> I am choosing to leave out side lights from my first build to reduce the amount of variables that may give me electrical/heat issues. Will this significantly affect my yield to the point where I should be seriously reconsidering this decision?

Not really. The sidelights are a nice and cheap upgrade, but probably affects more trichome production than yield.

> Which of those two fans do you think will work better for me? If these are both horrible, what other fans should I be looking at? I am looking at doing a DIY carbon filter since it seems to be pretty straightforward. What sort of DIY carbon filters do you suggest? How powerful should fans be to deal with a carbon filter in a standard-size space bucket?

Its really hard to recommend those small fans for filters, my advice would be to get an inline fan and filter and not overcomplicate things. ONA gel is also a good solution for odors.

> I am using white buckets rather than mylar because it seems white buckets work fine and mylar can create hot spots. Is this accurate?

White buckets are a fine choice, but mylar does not create hot spots. That is a myth. Check /r/HandsOnComplexity for the science behind that.

> I've read that buckets are much cheaper at stores than they are on Amazon. Around how much should I be spending for 4x white 5 gallon buckets? Are there any other items in my build that I can get for cheaper in person?

Try to get them for free. I've never paid for a 5gal bucket. At least in my city there are a lot of 5gal buckets near construction sites, to give one example. You just have to know where to look.

> I am planning on ordering seeds from Nirvana. Is this a good vendor or is there a different one that I should be using?

Should be OK, most big vendors are fine.

> I've found plenty of resources about space buckets on this subreddit and the website, but not much on the actual process of growing Marijuana inside of a space bucket. Apart from the setup, is there any difference in the process of growing Marijuana inside of a space bucket and growing it another way? Is there any sort of guide or subreddit dedicated to what's needed to go from seed to harvest you can point me towards?

Check the bucket plant guide for tips from the community. The best kind of experience will be your first hand experience. You should expect to kill some plants before mastering the proccess. In a Space Bucket, the main challenge is keeping the plant as short as possible. If you keep it low the lighting will be more effective, and the flowers more awesome.

> Any general advice? Anything I'm missing?

Yes, don't forget to update us and to have fun! Welcome to the community.

Congrats on finding the seeds and getting this far. If you are a first time grower, then I would highly recommend a controlled environment starting with a tent. I have done it both ways, and outdoor seasonally, and you will benefit a lot from having a confined space you can control as you learn. Contrary to popular belief, it isnt "just a weed that grows". To have a quality finished product you need a good amount of time and energy spent on the plants. However, because the growth takes time, as a first time grower, you can purchase the items you need as you need them to build out your grow. I have purchased a lot of my items on amazon, so I will provide some links to items I vouch for personally.

I would start with a light and good soil. This is one of the most important items by far. For indoor, use LED, or a combo of T5 for veg and then LED for flower.t5: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M624OCR/ref=crt_ewc_title_oth_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1KBVFFLR1WEMK

LED: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0185OLBPK/ref=sspa_dk_detail_10?psc=1&pd_rd_i=B0185OLBPK

I have both of these products and can finish 4 plants in a tent nicely in about 100 days. I know people have feelings about using off brand lights but I have had zero issues, ever. On thing to do though is to not let the plants grow too tall. Rather train them to grow like bushes by topping them early and continuing to top the new nodes at a reasonable height, Id suggest 30 inches max (from top of the pot).

Also buy this : https://www.amazon.com/General-Hydroponics-pH-Control-Kit/dp/B000BNKWZY/ref=pd_sim_86_7?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B000BNKWZY&pd_rd_r=5185d750-c735-11e8-83ba-35492fd40af5&pd_rd_w=FfWzV&pd_rd_wg=5opTv&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=18bb0b78-4200-49b9-ac91-f141d61a1780&pf_rd_r=5TDAFKEPVRHZC2TKYA3F&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=5TDAFKEPVRHZC2TKYA3F

AND LEARN ABOUT pH!!!! Many young growers don't do this and it makes a HUGE difference.

For veg, you will be able to get by a few weeks or maybe a month without a tent, but the light will become annoying.

For soil. I highly recommend mixing fox farms happy frog and ocean forest. This will prevent you needing to use fertilizers really at all until flower time. Yes it is kind of expensive, but it is worth it. I have tried the experiment of making soil myself... it becomes outrageously priced so fast and unless you are really good at chemistry/botany you can totally fuck some shit up. Trust the fox farms soil. It is the best IMO. Also, I am a huge fan of cloth bags. I suggest these:

https://www.amazon.com/VIVOSUN-5-Pack-Thickened-Nonwoven-Handles/dp/B00TF9E6XE/ref=pd_sim_60_7?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B00TF9E6XE&pd_rd_r=fb2641f0-c736-11e8-8198-7d964bea5356&pd_rd_w=GtDju&pd_rd_wg=aCJer&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=18bb0b78-4200-49b9-ac91-f141d61a1780&pf_rd_r=H05JF866M3Z3Y0MEV2JX&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=H05JF866M3Z3Y0MEV2JX

So a tent should be your next purchase.

I have two of these and they do a great job.Tent: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XJQ8LPY/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s01?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Shortly after getting the tent set up you need to get an oscillating fan and some regulators to tell you temp, humidity, etc.

regulator: https://www.amazon.com/AcuRite-Humidity-Thermometer-Hygrometer-Indicator/dp/B0013BKDO8/ref=pd_sim_86_6?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B0013BKDO8&pd_rd_r=5185d750-c735-11e8-83ba-35492fd40af5&pd_rd_w=FfWzV&pd_rd_wg=5opTv&pf_rd_i=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_m=ATVPDKIKX0DER&pf_rd_p=18bb0b78-4200-49b9-ac91-f141d61a1780&pf_rd_r=5TDAFKEPVRHZC2TKYA3F&pf_rd_s=desktop-dp-sims&pf_rd_t=40701&psc=1&refRID=5TDAFKEPVRHZC2TKYA3F

Now even in veg, your plants are going to begin to smell. But by flower time you will have a real problem on your hands, even with a tent. So next you will need a carbon scrubber. I use this one off amazon for a tent and have zero complaints while the tent is closed. I also have the filter hanging in the tent and venting out the side into the attic of my rental. Zero smell, unless the tent is open (which you will want to do in the beginning, but over time you will learn to not go in everyday unless you need to). With this item, every other grow you need to replace just the carbon canister part of it. It is easy to do and worth every penny.

Carbon scrubber:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XFRNPR8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Buying all this over time is pretty easy, even on a conservative budget.

Hope this helps!

Welcome to growing your own weed. It's the best hobby ever. Thanks for doing some research before asking questions. Let's look at your questions:

> Will this setup let out any smell from the tent?

You will have very minimal, but not absolutely undetectable smell outside the tent. I would expect no smell outside of your 6x12 room. When you open your tent during flower, there will be a strong pleasant fresh weed odor.

> If I had to go out of town for any reason, would the room still function fine with the door and window both closed for 2-3 days? (Assume I would need a dehumidifier and AC unit)

You should be A-OK for 3-4 days unattended with no special arrangements aside from watering before you leave. Yes, you should expect to need a dehumidifier and A/C unit. A window A/C is usually preferable to central air, because it keeps the air in the 6x12 room isolated from the air in the rest of the house.

> Would the setup be too noisy to have in the same room as my computer and spend multiple hours per day sitting next to?

With the fan/blower you linked, yes, it would be pretty noisy. I would suggest you upgrade to this 6" blower/filter and get the speed controller. It makes for smooth, quiet operation on reduced speed.

> Would my microphone (Blue Yeti if relevant) pick up on it?

If you get an oversized blower and run it on reduced speed, it should be quiet enough for you.

> Are the any health risks to myself or my pets by being in the same room as the exhaust for multiple hours per day?

None that we know of.

> The entire setup would likely share a wall outlet with my computer via a 5 outlet adapter, will there be any issues here? (There is another outlet in the room but would either stretch cords across the room or require stringing the cables up)

You need to watch your power budget for sure. You probably have one 15 or 20 amp circuit to that room, which limits you to 1800 or 2400 watts. Your grow tent will eat up 600 watts. A 5000 BTU window A/C uses another 600 watts. That leaves you with 600-1200 watts to run your computer. If you throw a dehumidifier in there, and everything starts running at once, you could start tripping breakers. I would suggest you find out what size circuit is feeding your room. It's going to be close.

> Would this tent height severely limit the number of different strains I could grow?

A taller tent is always better. Especially with the CMH light fixture, which likes a little extra room. If you can get a taller tent, then get it. That said, if your plant training is on point, you can make it work with any strain.

> I could clear off a roughly 2' x 2' area off my desk for trimming and such, will this suffice or will it be too messy?

Yes, you can trim at your desk 2x2 desk. It's a smelly process and the smell can linger for a couple days. If you do it with a fan in the window you can keep odor to a minimum.

> Is drying and curing inside of the tent a viable option to control smell? (Obviously not while I'm growing other plants)

Yes. Most indoor tent growers dry in the tent.

> I'm sure there's some things I'm forgetting right now, but based on my questions and concerns, is it worth getting into growing right now or should I look at getting a bigger space? Thank you for reading this far and for any advice you're able to give!

Growing is not for everyone, but if you have the disposition for it, it's a wonderful, wonderful hobby. If you buy weed regularly it will save you a ton of money. I think you should go for it.

#1 Question I have been asked is "I don't have a fruiting chamber, how do I fruit?"

IF YOU DON'T HAVE A FRUITING CHAMBER, CONSIDER
THIS! I have personally grown in the 5 tier variant with equal success to my fruiting chamber, though it required misting & air exchanges with fanning - a small ultrasonic humidifier on a timer is a great step towards automation, in addition to that, a fan on a timer exchanging air is even better! I modified my 5 tier to include a PC fan. Another idea is DIY greenhouse, improvise a DIY solution with plastic & wire hangers (or hanging wire from the hardware store), or whichever materials your DIY self are comfortable using. Again, I have done this, and it works so long as you pay attention to humidity levels and exchanging air.

Again, any questions, please PM! I will offer free consultation to anyone growing on a personal level.

>far alone

I am often far alone in my garden, happy just to be in the midst of so many green lives. :>D Particularly this year.

After a long stretch of crises that interfered with my growing obsession, I have been able to return to it at last. I am pleasantly surprised to see what a great collection of lights, warmer pad, shelves, and seed starting stuff, etc. I have amassed.

I have been working on my winter garden since the 4th of July, and by now should have all the seeds I want, but dropped another $40 with JLHudson this weekend. All I wanted was some Portungese Kale, but.... When we had the bulk of our yard landscaped a few years ago, the landscaper used plants that were commonly available in local nurseries. Boring stuff. I went wild with ordering seeds for zone-appropriate replacement perennials that will attract pollinators.

When it comes to vegetables, I am a Zone 8b, Sunset 18, high desert container gardener.. I have SIPS (sub-irrigated planters) just waiting to revitalized and planted, and everything not in an Earthbox or facsimile, will actually be in a real pot or planter, not in a Homer bucket or a free pickle bucket!. I feel like I have arrived at last!

On to the actual garden report:

We've been eating young broccoli raab for a while, pulling and are now replacing the plants with Icicle radish seeds as we do. We have also been eating Fordhook chard, and I just made another succession planting of it, of the Orient Wonder beans, and the Golden Detroit beets.

A Little Prince eggplant seed has finally popped, Spigariello (Sprouting Broccoli, Seeds from Italy) is up, as is the Pixie Cabbage. They all live on the windowsill right now, but will eventually become Earthbox neighbors to the collards, which, along with the Lebanese marrow squash, is getting ready to take off.

My summer Roma is producing again, many varieties of micro dwarfs are in bloom and several compact dwarf seedlings are ready for their first transplant. Basil is busting out all over, tarragon and dill are sharing a big pot. Thyme, oregano, marjoram, and parsley have been all been moved to one large bowl and seem happy about it.

ETA, just took a walk around the garden and see that I forgot a box of Tom Thumb lettuce which has sprouted, Thumbelina carrots (new this year) which have not, and a Corneor di Capra pepper waiting for its final pot home.

So now that I have the vegetables in hand, I have been thinking about the various ways I can protect them through the winter beyond moving all of the planters onto the cement patio to take advantage of thermal mass.

I used to set up a portable hog panel hoop house in the backyard, but recently had a brainstorm about a way to put it on the patio, using cement blocks as kneewalls, and anchors, so I may well do that, and grow and sell some seedlings next year, to cover my gardening costs. If I don't put up the hoophouse, I will have a lot of seed trays to be protected, but I can always pull clear trashbags (Amazon) down over utility shelves of trays (of course, I would never let the plastic touch the leaves, as that transfers the outside temperature to them, a lesson learned the hard way.)

I also recently saw a raft of large translucent storage bins on sale at our local charity's last chance thrift shop. They will eventually crack and fracture and end up in the dump, but one could turn them upside down and give them a last life before they go, as a portable cold frame.

Alternately, binder clips are incredibly useful for making quick shelters and I could wrap my taller Wal-mart stack shelves with green house plastic and clip it together.

I also have a permanent "appliance" (Eliot Coleman's term for season extenders) built along the southern wall of the house, basically a 2' high box wrapped in a green tarp faced over with white lathe fencing. The inside frame has C-clamps bolted to it to hold PVC bent into hoops. Over the seasons, the hoops have alternately been covered with green house plastic, or shadecloth. It once held a half-dozen earthboxes, but since a family of formerly feral felines has moved in (and yes, have all been neutered and spayed), I gave it to them as their winter kitty condo.. In return they chase away rabbits and ground squirrels, so it's a fair trade.

If I were going to buy a portable green house, It would probably be a lean-to or the largest cloche style that I could find.

Rather that basing it on the day, you may want to start feeding with nutrients (not just calmag) once the first non-cotyledon pair of leaves is growing. This may be closer to 5 days than 14. Also, don't worry too much if the cotyledons start to turn yellow, that's the plant using some of their nutrient reserves. (They'll probably fall off eventually, but by then the plant should be big enough you won't notice.) Rather than alternating feeding nutrients and plain water, it's simpler and probably better overall to just feed every time, at a lower but consistent EC.

Unless the ambient air is really humid (which you'll want to keep an eye on in flower), you may want to increase the humidity during the seedling and early veg stages. Some sort of humidity dome can help -- I put half a cut-up plastic water bottle over the seedlings for the first few days, and then use a small humidifier in veg if it's less than 40% rh. Note that if you use tap water in the humidifier, you can get mineral buildup in your carbon filter, reducing its effectiveness. (Carbon filters also generally stop working as well somewhere past 60% relative humidity, because they're too damp and get clogged.)

As you get into veg and flower, it's worth trying to water multiple times a day if you can. I have automatic irrigation set up with a timer, an aquarium pump, and dripper lines, and gradually go from watering 2x/day (in veg) to 6x/day (in flower). Coco still holds a lot of oxygen even when it's pretty wet. There's a lot of great info about growing in coco at Coco for Cannabis, particularly about watering/feeding.

The external fan speed dimmers that actually reduce voltage are vastly superior to the cheap ones that just rapidly flip power on and off -- depending on the fan motor type, the latter can damage the motor or produce loud buzzing as you slow it down. (I've been fine with a 4" fan and the voltage regulator, but I have a 2x2 tent. Not sure what size would be best for 4x4.)

Good luck!

u/DeadlyJoe · 5 pointsr/resinprinting

A garage is a good choice as long as it's not freezing in there when you're operating the printer. Most resins need to be between 30 to 40C to cure optimally. Some printers have heaters specifically to keep the resin nice and fluid. So, bear that in mind when you make your choice.

I honestly don't know how dangerous the fumes are, but you won't want to breathe it after you sniff it anyway. Most UV resin has a burned plastic-like smell. It is fairly acrid and no one recommends breathing it, of course. I personally find it pretty intolerable.

That said, the fumes are easy to control if you choose a sealed machine (one without any holes in the case) such as the Peopoly Moai. Sealed machines can sit with resin in the vat essentially forever without leaking any fumes, which means you don't need to have active ventilation on the machine while it's printing or just sitting idle. Machines that do have ventilation, such as the Anycubic Photon, will require either a well-ventilated room (again, a garage is ideal) or they'll need to be connected to a duct to a window while in operation. You can cover the vents on most of those machines when the machine isn't in use.

Most of the fumes that you'll be exposed to are during clean up when you remove parts from the build plate and wash them in isopropyl alcohol or methanol to remove the uncured resin. This is a messy, smelly, and slightly dangerous business that involves sharp blades and splashing. Some people like to wear a respirator for this. I don't use a respirator, but only because I have a fairly powerful ventilation system. I keep my SLA printer in a small 10'x10' repurposed bedroom which normally has terrible ventilation, so I operate a 6" inline duct HVAC fan with a duct to a window. That fan easily clears the air in the room in just a few minutes. And if I run the duct directly over my cleaning vats, I can't even smell the alcohol fumes. So if you're going to do your cleanup in a small area like that, then I highly recommend some kind of ducted ventilation system.

Your cleaning station can also be tailored to contain fumes. I highly suggest buying at least three cheap rectangular 1-gallon tupperware containers with tight lids (like these). Use one of them as a drip-tray while removing parts from the build plate, use a second for alcohol cleaning, and use a third for water rinse. The lids will keep the fumes contained, and it'll save your alcohol from evaporating. It's cheap and effective.

Just a side note, during cleanup, it's absolutely mandatory to wear eye protection and disposable gloves. Get used to idea of using a lot of gloves. I buy them in lots of 1000.

I honestly would use panda film over the mylar stuff. Mylar is slightly more reflective but panda film is cheaper and diffuses light better. It's black on the backside for blacking out. It's also cheaper. Either one will work great tho.

>Now my questions are, do i need some kind of air inlet to let fresh air in, and if so, will a simple vent do, or does it require a fan as well, or is that overkill for what I'm doing?

A vent should be plenty. Make it bigger than your exhaust, like 2x bigger. Intake fans arent needed in such a smll space. Make sure it's a lifeproof vent. Like this

>Also, If I get a 150Watt LED, I think that would meet my needs, but if I added another 50w LED light and pointed it at the undergrowth, would that be a benifit or will the 1 lamp provide all I need? I'm on a budget, but thankfully the budget is large enough that if I can find a good bang for my buck addition that will provide a better harvest, I can do it.

Like /u/Cuicos said, get the quantum board 135w kit. It will be all you need in that space. It equals one of the "600w" blurple LED panels on amazon. Or about 4-5 of those 150w LEDs you're talking about (UFO im assuming).

You wont need any side lighting or anything using the kit.

>I know I'll need an air extractor and carbon air filter, as wel as a small fan inside the room to circulate the air.

Yep. If you want a cheap one, get this. It will be loud as hell though. If you want a quiet one, get this. DO NOT GET A FAN LIKE THIS ONE.

If you are serious about smell, do not get a shitty filter. Ipower, vivosun, etc. are all shitty. I had a brand new 4" ipower filter and it couldnt handle 1 plant. Get a phresh one, this one is perfect.

I got it on Amazon. It’s a Giantex brand. I’ve only had it together for a few days. So far it seems to be working great! It’s really cute. I almost bought one with zipped up plastic but thought this one would last longer. :)

Here’s a link!

Also, I’m still working on how to incorporate herbs into my practice. That’s why I joined this sub to learn more. I’ve read rosemary is good for protection, and it’s my favorite smell ever. So I love growing and cooking with it. 💙

u/ismann · 2 pointsr/SpaceBuckets

CFM won't matter regarding if it can push air through the filter. What you want to look for is the static pressure rating of the fan. It will be in the unit of mmH2O. Try to get a fan rated at 6 mmH2O or greater. Basically, the motor must be strong enough to push air through a thicker medium like a filter.

My fan (Delta AFB1212HHE-F00) is a 120mm PC fan rated at 9mmH2O and 120 CFM. My other fan (Scythe Kaze 3000) is also 120mm PC fan rated at 6mmH2O and 133 CFM. Both push through my homemade carbon scrubber.

Also, from what I've read, you don't want to use a carbon 'fabric' like those sheets. They wear out quite quickly and making a filter from small activated carbon granules would be superior. You might be able to find one relatively cheap like this. You could attach a 6-to-4 inch rubber reducer like this and let it sit on top of your fan on the cabinet. I made my scrubber out of an atrium grate, pantyhose, rubber reducer and the carbon and it sits right on top of my bucket with no need to seal around it as the air pushes through nicely with not much back pressure.

u/juanitospeppers · 2 pointsr/HerbGrow

since the shelves are adjustable (although it is kinda annoying so not something you do all the time) you could leave like 3ft on the bottom and grow like 2 plants there full time if you want. But you will want a different / stronger light for flowering. or you can just move them outside when they are big, sun is free.

The led shoplights are mostly just for starting, that would be your middle shelves. usually like a month or so for seed to sprouts or rooting clones.

but there is no point growing tons of starter plants if you don't have room for them when they are bigger =]

mature plants can get large 3ft x 5ft easy. but you can trim them to fit whatever space you want. (see small /r/spacebuckets setups, to huge /r/outdoorgrowing plants)

an inline fan with flexible tubing and air filter (if you are flowering and dont want it to smell outside your shed much) is easy to place if you have some vent or opening somewhere in the shed.

-i use a BreatheRight by Allen for my allergies. It’s expensive ($600-ish) but if you get the charcoal filter it’s crazy good. Will remove scented candle smells and Bacon smells as well as the very marijuana smoke that I smoke inside my own apartment.

I haven’t received any complaints. It’s been 2 years.

The next thing would be to go one step higher and purpose an in-line fan filter and attach a huge 24” charcoal filter.

This option is actually WAYYYY more effective, but requires just a little bit of knowing how to put stuff together, and it’s slightly loud, but god damn, it totally cleans all smells and allergies.

This first link is for an in-line fan:

Second link for the filter:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B008NYF8S4/ref=psdcmw_5446824011_t1_B07FPFVZTZ

Third link is for the Allen Breathe Right:

The Allen is more aesthetically pleasing and is a complete unit that requires zero installation. Simply plug and play. This model is for 1100sqft. If you get this, get the charcoal filter. They have lots of filters.

The in-line fan and filter option will be like 10x more powerful and way more affordable than the Allen, but unpleasant to look at and is louder.

What scares you the price or the install?
I didn't want to but did end up buying it. Shans on Amazon was th best price I found and free delivery. https://www.amazon.com/SHANS-Spring-Wire-Lock-Channel/dp/B07JCZXBJ4?th=1&psc=1

Bought 40 channels and wire for like $240. Haven't I stalled yet buy quality looks good.

You can look in to snap clamps as an alternative. I bought a few, and after buying everything I've seen at least one comment claiming using all snap clamps is better than wiggle wire, and that you can pull the plastic tight through it .. I haven't seen it myself though.

a good starter pack of nutrients - a small sized grow tent that can fit 4 plants - a fan ventillation system that will handle the smell when you get to flowering - airpots if you want to grow from soil - or DWC hydro buckets if you want to go hydro note that these are pretty easy to DIY, buckets are $5 ea and pumps run $20-50. LED lights to grow with for $160 or you can skip up to the good stuff and go with Quantum Boards which are far superior - not on amazon You can do a lot of your own work on these boards to make them not as expensive.

After your get some seeds, either from bag seed or from an online seller, its really just a matter of paying attention to what the plants are doing and keeping a good schedule with your nutrients or watering. There is a ton of information online, both on reddit and elsewhere that can guide you with anything.

u/Suuperdad · 6 pointsr/ClimateOffensive

Do they have any room for a fruit tree or 10? You can get some good deals now on bare root fruit trees - because nurseries want to get a decent amount of their sapplings accounted for. The best times to buy are in the preseason, and the afterseason clearances. A nice apple/pear/peach tree, 2-3 cherry bushes, 5-10 raspberry canes, and some bulb flowers, maybe some strawberries and they have a nice little food forest guild that would fit in a 8 x 8 foot corner in their backyard, and give them a thousand bucks of food per year. The raspberries would produce this next summer. This can all be planted in an afternoon.

2000 bags of shredded leaves, dumped all over their lawn. Go with 50 trees and kickstart a full blown food forest for next spring!

A small seed starting kit is timed nicely for Christmas. Some LED grow lights, a little rack system with a greenhouse tarp, maybe some seed starting trays, etc.

The gifts themselves aren't carbon negative, but them growing some of their own food will offset the massive carbon footprint of the industrialized food system.

What about indoor mushroom grow kits. Here are some vendors:

•Back to the Roots (Oakland, CA)

•Cascadia Mushrooms (Bellingham, WA)

•Far West Fungi (San Francisco, CA)

•Field & Forest Products (Peshtigo, WI)

• Gourmet Woodland Mushrooms (UK)

• Grow Mushrooms Canada (British Columbia, Canada)

• MycoUprrhizal (Olympia, WA)

•Provisions Mushroom Farm: find them at the Olympia, WA Farmer's Market!

•SmugTown Mushrooms (Rochester, NY)

• Sno Valley Mushrooms (King County, WA)

Same thing, these may not be carbon negative by themselves, but they will make a LOT of mushrooms (if they like eating mushrooms), and can be really fun. Every mushroom they grow in their basement is a batch of mushrooms that didn't travel 1000 miles, with associated packaging, processing, etc carbon footprints.

These carbon filters are used mostly in commercial spaces. In the United States they are commonly found in marijuana grow houses to move air outside. A carbon filter removes a high percentage of odors to reduce the risk of detection.

I like them in my home because I'm not a fan of buying other scented products that "mask" smells. When I walk into my home and my carbon filter is on it smells clean. I'm not sure if that clean smell is due to something from the carbon? Either way it's a clean, crisp smell that many people comment on and cannot be replicated by chemicals.

Cons: inline fans are loud and the system is a little bulky. Noise can be reduced by adding ducting to the end or buying insulated fans as referenced below.

Pros: I breath amazing air. You can cook/smoke inside your home and it's still going to smell amazing!

Here is how I do it. Tent on right gets first air ( the coldest and driest as it's for flowering ) air moves to second tent ( the air is warmer and more humid now, ideal for vegging flowers),the air moves into the dry tent, which usually has it's own dehumidifier. Finally exhausting thru a carbon filter back into the room.

I hope this inspires ideas. It wont smell like cannabis in the exhaust air until like 2 weeks into floweing, from that point it progressively gets WAY stronger. I highly advise a carbon filter if you want stealth. Given that there's no such thing as a BIFL filtration system of any kind, the DIY recommendations here are rather reasonable. I quite like the furnace filter + box fan suggestion.

If you want something a little more robust, look into getting a carbon filter and a fan to go with it. I think the usual recommendation for carbon filters is for 24/7 use they need replaced every year or two. Here's one on amazon that you could use with a 6 inch fan which would add pretty good circulation for a large room: http://www.amazon.com/iPower-GLFILT6M-Control-Australia-Charcoal/dp/B008NYF8S4/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1396198801&sr=8-2&keywords=carbon+filter

Seeing various different plants in this photo, everything in Foxfarm Ocean Forest, no nutes. 2400 Total Watts ( LED "Watts.. so whatever that means to this manufacturer" )

  • ones on the left started in window, auto pineapples 5gallon pots, been growing for 53 days, buds appeared Aug 26th
  • the next ones over got moved from the 2x4 tent, auto girl scout cookies and auto pineapple, 3 gallon pots, a few weeks away from harvest. 59 and 54 days growing
  • the next two were started after I got a grow light and added it to the window, auto gorilla glue #4, 5 gallon pots, 17 days growing
  • the other plants are A Fig Tree, some peppers, chives and lettuce and catnip. various pots.

Moved everything into the tent over the last weekend.

    Pretty happy with this tent!

Big question on mind is the best way to utilize? I am thinking of using my 2x4 for "vegging" and this 5x5 for flowering? Not sure about moving plants around though. Could also just keep two separate staggered grows going. I thought I could just do all stages in one tent but the different humidity and temperature requirements would mean compromising on the best environment for each stage. Another option is to try a scrog in the 2x4 and a 'regular' grow in the 5x5.

GROW DETAILS

I have three different strains, Northern Lights, Pre-99 big bud, and pure power plant, and then an unknown seed(which I planted about two weeks ago as the previous unknown seed turned out male, see previous post [here](https://www.reddit.com/r/microgrowery/comments/5qo1yo/early_sign_of_balls_details_in_comments/0. One in each 3-gallon smart pot. For the first two weeks of growing I had an 18/6 light schedule, and then switched to 12/12. (I'm essentially doing 12/12 from as early as the plant could respond to the change in light schedule). Over the past 15 days I watered twice with tiger bloom nutes.

I definitely made the mistake of not listening to your advice when I originally posted and am trying to grow 3 plants in a 1.5X2.5X3 foot tent...It is getting crowded, I should've listened and stuck with one, maybe two plants. Other than that I haven't had any problem that I have noticed other then a few spots of damage on leaves occasionally but no pests or wilting. I'm sure there are things I could've done better though. Thank you for all your help, I can't wait to get to harvest.

u/traptito · 2 pointsr/GrowingMarijuana

Well, I wouldn't buy a tent kit/package. You could go with a 24"x24" tent like this one then buy your light and carbon filter/inline fan seperate.

iPower is a good inexpensive brand to start with for your fan/filter. A 4" fan is more than enough for that size.

As for your light a Quantum board leds are the most efficient lights out now but Cobs (chip on board) are great too.

Add a little clip fan for air circulation and you're all set!

u/foxydogman · 9 pointsr/ChineseLaserCutters

Yep! I use this one. I considered the one you linked, but got the metal one simply because it was cheaper at the time. Both would get the job done.

I have it connected to my k40 via 4" dryer hose and this flange hose fitting which fits perfectly in the slot on the back of the k40.

Used these clamps to secure the dryer tubing together.

As far as how well it works, I'm pretty satisfied. I have the exhaust blowing out a 4" fitting attached to a board I close in my window. I smell a little bit of burnt wood when cutting, but it's very minute. Almost all smoke goes out the window. The suction is very good, if I'm cutting card stock it occasionally sucks the small paper pieces right off the cutting bed. When I'm doing laser alignments, it almost completely eliminates the smell of burning masking tape during test firing even with the door open.

In my experience, those in-line vent fans don't have the design to effectively push or pull through filters and containers. They're also called booster fans because they are meant to maintain airflow in the weak areas of air systems, but with laminar incoming flow and little restriction to input and output.

I'd recommend something like this. Should work for a few LED 5 gallon buckets imo.
4 inch blower

If you're talking about several large tote or trash buckets, I would step up to 6 inch blowers of the same design. You can see from the impeller design in some pictures that they are intended for blowing through filters and pulling through restrictive airspaces.

Good luck!

u/deep_horticulture · 1 pointr/microgrowery

The hyperlink goes to the tent instead of the chilled logic LEDs. I know which ones you're talking about, but the link is bad. If you're running in a small tent you can really get by with a small fan. You could check out a 4in kit from Amazon. It's cheaper than your current filter and comes with a fan and some ducting. That would be more than enough for your little tent. If you haven't chosen your seeds yet, I would recommend Mephisto genetics for autos. Great stuff, quick shipping. If you're in Canada they do have their shop closed for a few weeks but you can order from the US or UK store.

This is the exact one, except it doesn't come with the shelving in the back. That was from a (much) smaller greenhouse. When I bought the larger one, the shelving fit perfectly in the back.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01GDVVZY4/

It's a great greenhouse. I got really lucky it fit perfectly on my balcony. Only minor complaint is the wire shelving is a little flimsy. If you have heavy plants, it'll sag a little, but it holds my peppers fine.

u/nado121 · 3 pointsr/AnycubicPhoton

A proper setup should be able to get rid of any smells, but that wouldn't be a sandwich-sized sponge and your usual 120mm computer case fan. In order for this to work you will need a radial fan and a proper filter like this set. Something smaller would certainly do, but I've never seen anything under 4" diameter.

They key is getting something that provides enough suction toward the exhaust so all the other openings and cracks in the photon's case don't leak any gas. This will in turn increase the volume of your whole setup. Sleeping next to it might be difficult. There's solutions for that, too, if you're willing to spend the time and money.

u/WeedBullSD · 2 pointsr/microgrowery

Hello there, I recently started growing and purchased all new items. The fan you chose simply won't work. You will be very disappointed in the performance. I was going to use that fan as an inflow booster with a pre-filter. I quickly returned it because it just did not move enough air. The fan could not create positive pressure in the tent. I then tried this fan: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01M7S46YZ/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1495901534&sr=8-3&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=4+inch+inline+fan&dpPl=1&dpID=41G0I96VBVL&ref=plSrch

I ended up returning that one as well because it was advertised as 200cfm and it was not moving anywhere near the same air amount as the first fan I bought. I then broke down and bought the same fan I originally purchased as my outflow fan and filter. I bought just the fan for 56.00 as an inflow fan and put a pre-filter on it.

u/FargusFaustmeister · 1 pointr/SpaceBuckets

I imagine you could purchase these activated charcoal sheets that you can cut to size! Tape a plate with a hole over it and you should be able to cut any size you want. The fan you spec'd looks like it should be able to handle the load that the charcoal filter will cause (it is going to be like trying to breathe through a straw rather than just your mouth).

Another option would be something like this where you have an all in one filter/blower system. It's more money but it will handle all that obstruction better. Alternatively you can go to a harware store and buy an inline duct booster. You should be able to control the fan speed with a big triac or possibly PWM signal.

That is a 45 gallon pot I believe.

As for the greenhouse, I got mine off Amazon. They no longer have the exact one I got but this one is pretty much identical, same dimensions and everything https://www.amazon.com/Green-House-HC-4202-Greenhouse-Shelves-Grow/dp/B01GDVVZY4/

The plastic cover is garbage, it dries out in the sun and starts tearing at the zippers. But It's just as easy just to use a clear tarp or drop cloth. The frame has a lot of uses.

What size fan (cfm)? What size ducting? I used this carbon filter in my 2x4x5 tent with a 6" 400 cfm inline fan. Worked great.

u/SkavenPlyr83 · 2 pointsr/Bonsai

I picked the greenhouse up on Amazon. It's very sturdy and pretty darn cheap for a walk-in size. I did slightly modify mine by omiting the lower shelves. This gave me larger niches to fit the size trees that I have and does not effect the sturdyness of the construction at all. Hope this helps!

u/astral-blood · 2 pointsr/shroomers

If you have that kind of space I would get a greenhouse tent /kit
like this

along with a humidifier, humidity controller, a couple small fans, a few rolls of led strip lights and a timer. You can put together one of these automated setups for pretty damn cheap (less than $200?) and you will never have to mist and fan again, and will allow you to go out of town etc and not worry about the constant misting and fanning. Additionally you can grow some culinary mushrooms (lions mane and to a less extent king oyster does well with cubensis), which if youre interested in doing this long term or bulk really helps cover your ass.

As mentioned below you should transition to bulk after this grow. Look into making liquid culture from fruits you grow this round which can be used to quickly make grain spawn and thus bulk tek grows.

u/sickofmakingalts · 1 pointr/microgrowery

I see, thanks for explaining. Looking at inline kits, is this one you think would work? And does the space the inline lead too have to have fresh air? Since its a tent that will be in a closet.

Or can I get something like this with some Aluminum Ducting? Seems to be cheaper, is a filter 100% necessary? Smell for me isn't something that needs to be concealed.

There's vivosun's fan and filter combo, you'd need something like those to keep smell down and get the heat out.

50w+ per square foot of whatever tent you choose will be fine.

I would have to say yeah, slightly, if you're not willing to do anything at all about it. How much effort you're willing to go through is up to you, but I'll throw out a few suggestions, from low effort to ludicrous:

-try from different places on your balcony, although it's difficult to predict wind against a building.
-smoke out of a different window
-smoke into your range hood or bathroom exhaust fan
-any of the above plus a fan to blow the smoke farther/better
-add a HEPA filter to the fan
-some kind of personal air filter like the smoke buddy
-hack together a tube with fan and activated charcoal (diy version of below)
-blow your smoke through something like this bad boy: https://www.amazon.com/VIVOSUN-Air-Filtration-Kit-Controller/dp/B06XFRNPR8
(maybe they'll even pay for it, I know I probably would cough up a hundred bucks to permanently abate a nuisance that bothered me multiple times a day)

A small 6 inch carbon filter with intake. I actually used this brand and many of their larger sizes. Intake should be 6" and cost appx. $40, worth it , electric is minimal clears the air of your whole apt (if under 600) you will actually notice cleaner air (I'm in LA and these have always made a diff from my small college apt by the freeway to the house I live in the hills now, would never grow without a nice carbon filter set up even when I move to Mendocino (Plus They create a nice ambient sound, increase C02 (bud size) and you should cut down on mold issues) not sure what part of the world you are in but filters in humid or arid, small or large grow, are key and worth the small investment for several reasons) If you're skeptical do some research.

What you're smelling is the terpenes, the volatile aromatic compounds present in cannabis. They provide the taste, aroma, and synergistic effects present in cannabis. You could, if you were so inclined, put your flower in a vacuum chamber and pull all those terps off. It would smell like grass, taste like ass, and not be as pleasant effect-wise, but it would get rid of the smell. Try a dry-herb vape. There's still smell, but it's a lot less. 2. Yup that would work, or there's an adapter on thingiverse that allows you to attach 4 inch hose with a extractor fan (that's what I use) and it outputs through a carbon filter. I use this one https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B06XFRNPR8/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o05_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 and use the printer in a small 1 bedroom apartment without issue.
  3. See above :)
  4. Yes but it's near useless. You really have to go with a secondary fan/filter combo to get any serious filtration.

Hi there. I went with that combo because some of the cheaper combos had pretty poor ratings on FakeSpot, but that's really the only reason. If you have a cheaper (and reliable) combo, I'd certainly take a look!

Okay. Do you think I would be sacrificing any "noob-friendliness" by ditching the peat pellets on my first go? I know you can just dump the seed into the medium, but I want to "get it right" my first time and reduce the margin of error. Maybe I'm overthinking it.

EDIT: Would these two work instead of the combo I had?
