> and Kailh has been manufacturing a low profile switch, but I have yet to see one in a board
Isn't it this one?
Possibly acceptable, also didn't see it. I don't want to shill a product, but I'm currently using this keyboard (not an affiliate link.) The low-profile switches are the important detail: full profile switches are fatiguing to me.
Although it does smudge easy, but for work it works.
Brand is Havit
https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-Rollover/dp/B0722GG88M
Normally is $50 but a facebook ad had a code for it that dropped it to $18 so I will not complain
try this board out?
it's a low profile gaming mechanical keyboard i personally really like mine.
There are new low-profile switches that came out recently from Cherry and Kailh, and they sound like what you want. There isn't a lot of board selection yet though. If you can tolerate the noise of blue switches, I think you'd like this one for $50:
https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-HV-KB390L/dp/B0722GG88M/
I'm using a Noppoo Choc Mini with 35g Gateron Clears, and that sounds like another option. Super light switches (the lightest you can buy), no scratchiness at all, but the keycaps are a bit tall compared to chiclets. It's about $60, I tried finding a link for that one but it looks like Newegg is out of stock now.
By the way, there are lots of people who feel similarly about chiclets. I type fast (~130wpm) and play Starcraft 2 competitively, and haven't found anything that works as well for me as an old ThinkPad membrane keyboard, despite a tour of mech keyboards. Am hoping these low profile switches will work for me, but blues are too noisy.
This board was posted earlier, super low profile, looks pretty nice. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0722GG88M
Havit has one that uses Kailh low profile switches. Here
This is the closest thing I have found to a low profile mechanical style switch: Not nearly as flashy or cool as razer, but I still love it. https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-HV-KB390L/dp/B0722GG88M/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1506801803&sr=8-1&keywords=low+profile+mechanical
The Havit HV-KB390L might be what you're looking for aside from no numpad.
Thanks! I spend most days here, so I strive to make it a place I enjoy.
Desk is from World Market. It looks like they have a 40% off deal going on right now!
Ultrawide is the Dell Alienware AW3418DW.
Top monitor is a dell 4k 27" I bought a few years ago. Great color reproduction.

Maybe this Havit? Comes with Kailh Choc switches.

Are there any split mechanical keyboards out there with low profile switches? I currently have this keyboard with Kailh low-profile blues:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0722GG88M/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I like it due to the low profile switches, but I would prefer to have a split keyboard for the ergonomics. I've looked at some but they all seem to have regular-profile switches.
My holy grail would probably be:
Does this exist?
Another company called Havit does. The keyfeel is almost exactly the same. Here's a link:

And any custom build you can think of.

Havit makes one that uses Kailh Low Profile switches. They're mechanical, but different in design: link . It has flip out feet if you want a bit more height. Keep in mind you most likely won't be able to change out the keycaps if you want to. The one I linked is the one I purchased for myself. It uses clicky switches and is very low profile. I don't know about the others.
Like others mentioned, it doesn’t necessarily matter. A lot of it is personal preference.
I would generally recommend a mechanical keyboard of some kind over a membrane- they tend to be a lot more accurate in their actuations. As far as specifics go, there’s a number of amazing options, including building your own...
That being said, my personal favorite keyboard, by far, is Havit Low Profile board- it’s not as customizable as a Cherry style switch, but it’s the most accurate, consistent, and easy to use keyboard I’ve ever touched. It’s also half the price of a Ducky or similar style board (which are excellent boards as well, at least most of them.) The actuation point is incredibly small, and I’ve never once had an issue with ghosting, no matter how quickly I’m pressing.
HAVIT Mech Keyboard](https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0722GG88M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_4XTODbGTV8HN0)
I have one and honestly I don't really care for it. The keys feel sort of "wobbly" and make a hollow sound when I press them.
I have a Havit low profile mech (https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-Rollover/dp/B0722GG88M) that feels much better, though it obviously doesn't reach feature parity with the Keychron. That's one area in which the Keychron has just about everyone beat -- Bluetooth, Cabled, Windows MacOS, it's very flexible. It's a very visually attractive keyboard as well, IMO
Hmmm, I would have preferred to see some Gateron slim switches. But I guess we'll see if these TTC ones are any good. I prefer the flat keycaps to the ones on the HAVIT keyboard. Although I'm making a guess that the Kailh switches will be better.
Havit, highly recommended: https://smile.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-Rollover/dp/B0722GG88M/
Also Hexgears X1: https://kono.store/collections/all-products-list/products/hexgears-x-1-mechanical-keyboard

https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-Rollover/dp/B0722GG88M You will not be able to swap caps, but that will be the closest to scissor switches.

Rubber domes, and even scissor switches are a type of rubber dome, have a tactile feeling at the start of your press. Browns are probably closer in feel, but have a lot more travel than any scissor switch. You can buy a Coolermaster Masterkeys S PBT within budget off Amazon, then buy some nice caps, but the feel will be different from a laptop keyboard. Many of us get a second keyboard just to use with our laptops just so we do not have to use the laptop keyboard. An Anne Pro 2 is a pretty good wireless model.
I'm looking for one preferably less than $150. Must be:
I'm looking at Havit but I want Red Switches not Blue.
Similar to the surface keyboard (for mechanical switches) would be the dareu and havit kailh low-profile switch keyboards, which come in linear red switches or clicky blue.
Dareu Compact: https://www.amazon.com/DareU-Bluetooth-Mechanical-Low-profile-Backlighting/dp/B078C8ZH7J
Havit TKL & full-size: https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-HV-KB390L/dp/B0722GG88M
& https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-HV-KB395L/dp/B074QM6F7X
What about this one? It's got Kailh's low profile switches. They're clicky though (don't know if there are any keyboards with Kailh's low profile tactile/linear switches), so if noise is a concern, that's something to keep in mind.
XDA/DSA will only go so far. I'm assuming you don't want to go with custom QMK stuff (but you should, ergonomics is important).
Give this a look.

[US]
I need a thin mechanical keyboard for travel. My laptop switches do not have much travel distance so it hurts my fingers. I would like to keep it under $100 but I can go a little higher if it exceeds anything under 100.
I was thinking about a HAVIT thin keyboard but the travel distance seems small. Does anyone have experience with this keyboard?
Looking for recommendations for a low profile switch that falls somewhere between the kailh choc brown and kailh choc blues. The GAMDIAS low profile browns that I tried in this keyboard were EXTREMELY mushy and unsatisfying, and the kailh choc blues that I tried in this keyboard feel fantastic but are far too loud and clicks for my liking. I loved the feel of the full size MX browns I had previously, but much prefer the low profile travel distance.
Is there a low profile switch that is quiet and tactile? Anyone have experience with kailh choc browns?
Hypothetically, you can get a regular TKL and replace the keys with low-profile ones.
The Dare-U EK820 TKL w/ the new Choc low profile switches is now available in the US as the Havit Low profile TKL which was what Shadowstar was talking about. It's even lower than the Gram.
I use this one. Short travel keys and relatively low noise. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0722GG88M
Depends what you are looking for. Do you want 10 key or ten keyless. Do you want quiet, loud or rgb?
This is my current favorite for portable use:
https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0722GG88M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Super thin.
I think the lowest priced low profile keyboard I’ve come across is this one; I have it and honestly it’s pretty nice!

Hexgears X-1 is probably the highest quality option, though you'll have to wait a month or two for them to be in stock
If you want something cheaper, I'd recommend one of the HAVIT boards from Amazon. 100% or TKL
>The wireless connection only worked for up to 1.5 metres or so
Yeah, the 2.4 GHz band is typically very polluted these days. I get the same limitation from my Logitech Unifying Receiver. In my home theater I ended up running an active USB extension cable closer to my seats and attaching a USB hub back there. My HID dongles are plugged in across the room from my actual PC. I cheated. :)

>One LED (one of the F-functions) didn't display red and there didn't correctly display the RGB colours.
Hey, I think I saw your Amazon review. You're famous! Mine doesn't suffer this issue. But the Sink87G is dirt cheap in the mech keyboard world. I guess one is more likely to encounter a lemon in the sub $100 price range, as you and I both have experienced.

Edit: I just received my replacement Sink87G. As far as I can tell, it's free of defects this time. Still needs a little break-in, but I see no non-working LEDs, and all the keys work as intended.

>I didn't find it that much better to type/game on than a 'normal' keyboard.
This hobby is definitely a solution to a first world problem. I'm old enough to remember when buckling spring keyboards were common. First time I used a membrane keyboard in a computer lab, my first impression was "wtf was done to this poor keyboard?" I switched computers and was horrified to find they were all that spongy and obstinate. Of course, I've used some truly horrible keyboards in my time -- the kind where, if you saw them, you'd wonder if the girl whose water broke at that workstation made it to the hospital in time. Using something so horrible really makes one appreciate the finer things.
If you grew up with membranes, then you probably consider it normal punching the keys until they bottom out. That's completely understandable. And modern membranes have improved, some incorporating a tactile snap reminiscent of what you probably felt with your Outemu Browns. I'm not surprised you didn't find the experience a profound improvement.
Of course among mech keyboard fans, there are many who do not like brown switches, but instead prefer linear reds or clicky blues, stiffer linear blacks, vintage Alps, or Filco buckling springs. I bet if you got a keyboard with red switches and practiced for a day or two typing without bottoming out, you might come to appreciate the speed benefit over your Microsoft keyboard.
Hey, I wonder if you'd like low profile switches, something like the Havit HV-KB395L (low profile blues) or this Magic Refiner MK10 (low profile reds)? They've got less travel than typical mechs, and may feel more familiar while still an improvement over your Microsoft keyboard.

Iv really enjoyed it. Great for typing and gaming. Keys are right where they're supposed to be and the switches feel nice imo.
I mean this one can be bought already

I have a havit kb390 (low profile tkl blue switches keyboard) https://www.amazon.ca/Mechanical-Keyboard-Backlit-Extra-Thin-Switches/dp/B0722GG88M
disclaimer: I only own and use TKL keyboards so I can only recommend TKL keyboards in good faith, which I understand are not for everyone.
THE QUICK BROWN FOX JUMPS OVER THE LAZY DOG
This Havit TKL keyboard is my work keyboard, but it's very affordable and advertises NKRO (and passes your double shift test). The switches are Kailh Blue not genuine Cherry Blue and it is a lower profile keyboard but I love it. One major drawback is there is a bit of a tinny noise if you bottom out the keys to hard.
The Logitech G Pro is my home/gaming keyboard. I love Romer G switches but not everyone does so be aware of that. For reference they are basically MX browns but quieter (by a lot) and bumpier. I can confirm I have no issues with ghosting or rollover while gaming on it. It advertises this:
>Multi-key input means complex moves can be executed exactly right every time. With 26-key rollover, press almost any number of keys plus modifier keys (Control, Alt, Shift) in any order and get exactly what you intended.
Retails at $130 but link is for a refurb @ $70
>But when I play games, I can feel the heat on the keyboard while typing which is real bad
I noticed that when I was playing Quake Champions. My solution was to use a small external, low-profile mechanical keyboard. Normally, I would use Cherry red switch keyboards for gaming, but the low-profile, Kailh blue switches are a pleasure to use. Very easy to carry inside of a backpack with your Helios 300. You should also be using a wireless mouse. I use the Logitech G305 wireless mouse since I am ambidextrous.
For a mechanical keyboard this is actually pretty cheap. Really, if you want durability all you need is to search for mechanical keyboards at your price range.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0722GG88M/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_37mKBbFFB1CJR
As for the mouse, just get one with a braided cable. Or braid it yourself to save on a few dillars. Granted I can't tell garantee the clicks won't wear out
This
What about a mechanical, low-profile, tenkeyless keyboard? Does it exist?
I could only find this: HAVIT HV-KB390L
I had the Logitech K380 for a while and it's not very good. None of Logitech's keyboards are. The best ultraportable is the Lenovo Compact Thinkpad Keyboard. I had the Bluetooth version and it was unfortunately very unstable (not everyone has this issue apparently), but they also make a USB version.
For an even better keyboard, go mechanical. The Anne Pro 2 is a great option, but it's much bigger than the Lenovo one. There are also low profile options like this one, but these switches are fairly new so not that many boards so far.
I couldn't find one under $50, but we have this and this from Havit.
Honestly, you just might not be meant for normal mechanical keyboards. I assume you're used to laptop style keyboards? Any mechanical keyboard will have much more travel than laptop style keyboards (around 4mm of travel compared to around 2mm or less on a laptop), hence why the keys seem so tall. I would try to give it a week of use before discarding it altogether though. One thing to note is that Corsair keyboards are notorious for being loud, so they might not be the best brand out there for you.
There does exist lower profile mechanical keyboards as well. For instance, Corsair, Filco, and Cooler Master sell keyboards with Cherry MX Low Profile Linear switches, which have only 3mm of travel. It'll still be more than what you're probably used to, but it might be a good compromise, and they'll be quieter than normal Cherry Reds to boot. An even lower profile mechanical keyboard with Kailh Low Profile clicky switches is also sold here.
Another gripe you might have with Cherry Reds is that since they're linear and have no tactile feedback, you might feel like you have to push the key harder than you have to. In contrast, tactile switches like Cherry Browns would help alleviate this.
This one?
https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-Rollover/dp/B0722GG88M/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1542519080&sr=8-3&keywords=havit+keyboard
Looks nice and has a lot of good reviews. Don't know the brand. Did see it while doing research.
I've been looking at low-profile compact keyboard options recently, and to my surprise it's proving trickier than expected, so I'm asking for suggestions
Criteria are as following:
Am currently using a Microsoft Sculpt Ergonomic Desktop keyboard. The keys feel really nice, and the layout is good, but so far the mid-keyboard gap isn't quite clicking with me (I've pressed Y with my left hand for at least 10 years now, and here it's on the right side) and their other keyboards with same type of keys are all full-sized.
I have a Logitech K380 lying around, and it's alright (no high standards, mostly used with mobile devices), but not a fan of squished arrow keys.
Current considerations:
Update: Settled on HAVIT. Sharkoon seems OK too but only ships from Germany (?) and is a little thicker; Thinkpad is generally highly regarded but the layout is a bit oddish (Fn is left-most key) and my life can do without the perspectives of cleaning any more laptop-esque (inset) keyboards.
If you're looking for something off the shelf, I've been pretty happy with this one: https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-Rollover/dp/B0722GG88M/ref=mp_s_a_1_4?keywords=havit+keyboard&qid=1568562928&s=gateway&sprefix=havit&sr=8-4
Custom low profile boards are not very common.
I just bought the Havit HV-KB390L. It's a slim tkl keyboard with blue switches. I like this keyboard in the short time I've had it. But its just so dang loud. Are there any alternatives out there that are slim and tkl and not so loud? Mechanical recommendations not required.
Has anyone tried this?
I like the mechs that I have but I feel like I need something lower like you said
https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-HV-KB390L/dp/B0722GG88M?th=1&psc=1
This is a newer keyboard and I love it. I'm getting it for a friend of mine. I do believe there is a full RGB version
Sorry, I should have looked the keyboard up before replying -- I just saw that it's a membrane.
I haven't heard much about them, but maybe look into Kailh low-profile switches? Or Cherry ML?
Perhaps something with Kailh Low profile switches would be nice for you then.
There are some low-profile switches, but there aren't a ton of keyboards with them right now. Here is one example. I have seen some people have trouble adjusting from chiclet-style keyboards to mechanical keyboards that are taller and have more travel distance. But yea, I recommend visiting your local computer shop and trying out some mechanical keyboards there.
For the keyboard, you have a ton of options. I personally like mechanical, so I have a somewhat portable mechanical one.
For a stand, I recommend Roost. There's a knockoff called NextStand, but it simply doesn't adjust as well and takes up more space.
There is this low profile HAVIT keyboard with kailhs low-profile blue switches, which feel and sound better than the usual "blue" switch imo
Logitechs mechs are not really good and not worth the money so you ought to avoid them. Their mice are great though.
Looking for recommendation for compact (tenkeyless) laptop-like gaming keyboard. Razer DeathStalker would've been perfect choice if it weren't so huge. Small Logitech keyboards are good, but I don't like them being wireless. Among mechanical, I've tried Blackwidow X Tournament Edition and Ornata - I'm getting my fingers stuck between the keys all the time (height difference compared to laptop keyboards).
Not quite sure about this one: https://www.amazon.com/Mechanical-Keyboard-Extra-Thin-Switches-HV-KB390L/dp/B0722GG88M/
Any advice would be highly appreciated.
