I've consumed (destroyed) several 1.5-2 ton jack: Several Harbor Freight jacks, an aluminum craftsman "racing Jack", and even a hearty steel craftsman jack. Also have destroyed several Advance Auto/ O'rielly crap 1-1.5 ton jacks.
I've since learned my lesson and went out to find one that was truly BIFL, and came across this:

Coupled with a set of their 6-ton jack stands, and I've never found a better combo. (But all jack stands are pretty much the same)

Manufactured by OTC, Spain, it is the same one listed in the Griot's catalog, but for a lot cheaper (Actually bought it before learning this). It is warrantied for life.
Me and my brother embark on some significant car projects, and nonetheless use the **it out of jacks in particular. I have had it about 2.5 years now, and have not been disappointing one second with it. I will probably pass it on to my kids one day!
Edit: I have spent countless dollars at Harbor Freight and had NEVER had anything last more than a few years, let alone a few uses. I consider everything from Harbor Freight Disposable. ABSOLUTELY NOT BIFL.
