Actually I considered that too but had more worries about a skil saw than this method. If you don't track the skil saw completely straight it will bind and really kick on you. The safest that would provide a decent cut would have been a sawzall with a nice guide. I have a sawzall but not a guide and the guides are more expensive than I was willing to pay for this basically one time use
