are fine.
Only USB Flash drives and SD cards like the ones below should not be used even though they are capable.

It really depends on what you're looking for.
I'm partial to USB-powered (portable) external hard drives. You can usually find them for less than $50 including shipping if you're alright with keeping the size under 100 GB. Here's just one example from Amazon. This style is great because it only needs to be plugged into the Wii U (physically larger hard drives often require an AC adapter) and it's physically tiny so it will fit next to the Wii U and it's easy to travel with.
It's probably worth mentioning that if you go for an external hard drive, most of the brands have a good warranty, even if they aren't one of the main brands. Just check out the Amazon reviews. I got a super janky 320 GB drive for something like $40, but the reviews all indicated that the company provided great customer service. It's worked great for over a year.
You could also go with a flash drive (as far as I know... I don't see why not) for even more portability, but they are almost always more expensive per GB than an external hard drive would be. Amazon's got a 32 GB one for less than $20 today (assuming you have Prime).
This would be because most audio formats are already compressed as they are. The resolution is to find a bigger flash drive. You can find relatively cheap ones that will hold 8GBs that would be the perfect size as a backup of your home folder.
I personally use these (http://www.amazon.com/SanDisk-Cruzer-Frustration-Free-Packaging--SDCZ36-032G-AFFP/dp/B007JR532M/ref=sr_1_1?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1425298171&sr=1-1&keywords=USB+flash+drive)
You can also set up a fileserver on a cheap digital ocean account and upload your backups to that. Note that this would be a remote storage that will stay online as long as you pay for it. You could easily use it for the dual purpose of a personal website.
Either this or this! Thanks for the contest! Pumpkin!
Run it off a usb? https://www.amazon.com/dp/B007JR532M
If you only have a little bit of data to transfer, you could copy what you need to a USB flash drive and move it with the help of that.
If you have a fair bit of data and don't mind removing the hard drive temporarily, you could consider getting an enclosure like this to turn your desktop hard drive into an external drive. Then you can either keep it that way or copy the files you want over to your laptop, then put the drive back into the desktop.
buy a 32GB USB flash drive and call it good.

That's what I have.
I can probably just move stuff onto there, freeing enough room on my Wii U.
I find that playing with GameCube controllers on a computer is pretty difficult, and that on low-range PCs lag can happen often in dolphin.

Get a Flash Drive. here's one for $20.
Is there a difference between This one or this one other than the look?
Consider using a flash drive instead of an ssd. I mean, you'd save $50 and it's the same effect, so why not?.

Compare the cost to buy blank DVD's vs Flash memory.
100 blank DVD's. Price per GB: $0.06
32 GB flash drive. Price per GB:$0.66
That's 11 times more expensive.
Seems like a good deal
