Mine is going to sit right next to my xbox and never move so I don't mind.

Also seagate 4tb for $119:

Of course I'm being sarcastic!

I using the 4Tb posted below as an external. I lucked upon it as Eurogamer recommended the drive and a local retailer had it on sale.

Depending on your model of PS4, you will actually see improved loading from an external drive (albeit minimal). The stock internal drive is a slow-ass 5400rpm device, and the older version of the PS4 uses a SATA II interface (about 3Gb/s) vs. an external drive over USB 3.0 (about 5Gb/s).

There is also this $109.99 4TB Seagate drive which is smaller and USB powered (no power cord necessary.)

Yep. Sec, ill find the one i have and edit a link in.

Now, thinking on it, im sure you can also(if needs arise) buy a hard drive above 2-3tb that will fit. Must be a 2.5 seta hard drive, and if you have a pc masterrace friend they likely have 2 or more hard drive slots and could copy your old hd to the new one for you. ;)

u/migue_guero · 3 pointsr/Blackops4

I have this one. The first one I got was actually faulty. I got it around the time Resident Evil Zero came to Xbox One. The door loading screens would lag and opening my inventory would lag. So I had to request an exchange which was seamless and hassle free actually, no problems. The next one they sent me worked absolutely fine and is still working perfectly.

u/rosinall · 3 pointsr/mac

Do it. Live it. Really small drives with no need for external power are so crazy cheap, $55 for 1TB cheap. 4TB for $110.

Inconceivable for once paying ~1990 prices for Mac RAM and storage upgrades.

I got a 4 terebyte drive for under $150 Canadian.

You'll thank yourself later.

Do you know why this Intenso 5TB USB 3.0 3.5" says it only writes 625MB/s and this Seagate USB 3.0 allegedly writes 5.120MB/s When both are 5.400rpm and USB 3.0? I mean thats a crazy difference!

u/StevieSallz · 2 pointsr/PS4

I went for the Seagate 4tb £110 from Amazon. Powers from USB so no wall socket which is a bonus. A 1tb would be pointless imo, but I think the max is 8tb?

u/yiweitech · 2 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

only if you need the extra tb, this 4tb model is probably PMR, so faster writes. Reads aren't affected though

u/l33sarFiveFour · 2 pointsr/PS4

That seems to me like a better idea. The best SSHD I saw being recommended around here is FireCuda from Seagate whose maximum capacity is 2TB. Link:

https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-FireCuda-Gaming-Solid-Hybrid/dp/B01IEKG2HM

If you decide to use external HDD, the capacities range anywhere from 1TB--8TB. However, be aware that for 8TB you need to have a separate power cable. 4TB is the sweet spot with reasonable capacity and a single cable:

I'm currently using 3TB recertified drive from here

https://www.wd.com/en-gb/products/wd-recertified.html

Ended up much cheaper and reliable than most new hard drives I've used. But the problem is they are almost always sold out so you could keep an eye on it

If you're not too fussed on a price then I recommend Seagate 4 TB Expansion USB 3.0 for around £80

u/xKiLLaCaM · 2 pointsr/GreatXboxDeals

Seagate portable also on sale for same price and size on amazon plus prime shipping: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017KE8OG0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_VGo.ybMX440R1

Both arent really a deal in my mind. Waiting for better sale. Mad I missed out on a few of the recent one day sales for the bigger drives

u/Elmofuntz · 2 pointsr/xboxone

I am a fan of Seagate and use the 2TB versions of one of these https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Game-Drive-Green-STEA2000403/dp/B01065S79E/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1469156555&sr=8-1&keywords=seagate+xbox they even have a 4TB unit now for $149. I like them because they are a nice small self powered drive. Easy to take to a friends house if you want to. If you don't like the green (which you pay a bit more for) you can get the Seagate branded black ones a bit cheaper 1TB to 4TB starting at around $55 to $120. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017KE8OG0/ref=twister_B00TS6JL4S?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

I previously had a WD MyElements 2TB but it died on me. I do however enjoy being able to unplug it and use it on a different Xbox.

I love these drives. They're not particularly fast, so load times won't be great, but they're not worse than the internal drive. But the really nice thing about them is that they are self-powered and silent. Just plug it into the Xbox and format it. That's it. No additional cables required.

u/Awhite2555 · 1 pointr/xboxone

That is what I want. A bus powered drive. I only got the other one two years ago cause it was much cheaper. But now bus powered is more affordable. So this one right here would be fine right: http://amzn.com/B017KE8OG0

I work with Lacie ruggeds all the time for my job, and I rarely hear them.

u/jam6618 · 1 pointr/videography

I personally edit of the internal fusion drive in my 2012 iMac and store footage and personal stuff on a 5TB desktop hard drive (almost full).

Hind-sight 20-20, I would have preferred to get a larger raid array for my desk, something on the order of 20TB. Then also have a 500GB or bigger external SDD for fast editing of my current 1 or 2 projects. And then also a 2-4TB external hard drive for on-site backup and transporting large files. I don't know how I would like that setup, but from those that have some of the components, it seems like it would be a great setup. I would then reserve my computer hard drive for personal stuff.

u/orairwolf · 1 pointr/DataHoarder

What drives are you looking at? SATA or SAS? SSD or HDD?

You might take a look at these: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B017KE8OG0/

These are shuckable 4TB 2.5in x 15mm 5400 RPM drives. It's a Seagate ST4000LM016. They use perpendicular magnetic recording, as opposed to shingled magnetic recording, so they are well suited for lots of writes. I have been running these in an R810 for a couple years now with no problems. Hard to beat for $98 a pop.

u/SHANE523 · 1 pointr/playstation

That should be fine. I think I remember them stating that you should use a "powered" external meaning a power adapter but I have never used one with the adapter and have not had an issue.

Also remember that you cannot use a USB hub.
I too have a 2TB internal and have a 4TB external that I will use in the future.

I have thisexternal hard drive for my PS4. Is it compatible with the two things you posted? I’m not super tech savvy

u/Maortega89 · 1 pointr/PleX

First off, thank you for the vast amount of info. I feel lost after watching a lot of youtube videos on how to best host a PMS . From my understanding Plex is a media application which you use to upload your content and be able to share via the app. I've already started to download content from the net and have saved them to a 64 gb flash drive. I've created a PMS on my Mac and was able to log on to that same account on my Nvidia Shield TV and watch the movies but my laptop was running with the flash drive attached.

My goal is to be able to use the Plex app across different devices with the PMS that I have on my Mac without having to power up my Mac. If a Plex Pass is necessary, I am more than willing to pay for it.

What powered external hard drives are you referring to? When I googled it the #1 suggestion is the Seagate Personal Cloud 4 TB or the Buffalo link station which both have NAS capability. I just saw another video on the Seagate personal cloud, seems like even though it is able to integrate a Plex account and use it as a PMS it is not the best option because the transcoding speed is not strong enough to host it on all devices. So are you referring to a regular portable external hard drive?

Such as the one:

Go to Amazon.com. Type in "USB 3.0 hard drive". Pick one. I got a 4TB Seagate with fantastic reviews for $80. Loved it so much, I bought 2 more (1 for my PS4 and 1 for my laptop). It's $90 right now, but still not bad.

Yes here are my drives. Both working fine but keep in mind I have modified my console drive housing to accommodate the 15mm height requirement of the new drive. You can see in the imgur post here:

Ordered 4tb on Amazon.

I gutted the external hard drive and used the 4tb drive in my console.

I bought 8tb at best buy.

Hey buds - can anyone recommend some portable harddrives? I need one for school (1tb is recommended, but I'm open to anything 750 and up, I think).

Saw this one and it doesn't look terrible, and that's a shitload of storage.

u/WalkTheDock · 1 pointr/xbox

Don't buy the official Xbox Seagate drive it is over priced for being green and having a logo get this 4 TB drive for 15$ more: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017KE8OG0/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_apa_mXswzbXJH4Z4N

u/ElBeh · 1 pointr/DataHoarder

Gotcha. OK, I guess I'll just go with this, then. As long as the hard drive is USB-3, it should be fast, right?

It might be good to compare the Price of a Slim against the original version. The Slim has no real value except being smaller than the original PS4. The Original One might be even cheaper.

Also you can always check if you don't want to upgrade the Storage yourself through internal or external HDD (External must be between 250GB and 8TB).

So it might be cheaper to buy the original Ps4 with an external HDD that has 2 or 4 TB

https://www.playstation.com/en-gb/get-help/help-library/system---hardware/storage---data/ps4--external-hdd-support/

For example:

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Sony-PlayStation-4-500GB-Black/dp/B01GVQVQH2/ref=dp_ob_title_vg (slim version)

https://www.amazon.co.uk/d/External-Devices-Data-Storage/Seagate-Expansion-Portable-External-Drive/B017KE8OG0/ref=sr_1_6?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1498217164&sr=1-6&keywords=external+hard+drive

With that you would have a Ps4 Slim and 4,5 TB (4TB external 500GB internal) storage for just about £350

u/mikochu · 1 pointr/xboxone

I recommend a USB-powered drive. I've got this: Seagate Expansion 4TB Portable External Hard Drive USB 3.0 (STEA4000400) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B017KE8OG0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_55ytxb4S1KYZ5

u/timtimtimmm · 1 pointr/buildapc

I don't mind it being too loud as it wouldn't be frequently plugged in and used but would a 5400RPM drive be noticeably slower than a 7200RPM, or not? Thanks!

EDIT: Something like this?

EDIT2: Also, I've been reading many reviews of this Seagate 4TB Portable hard drive too, with talks about binned/discarded low-quality drives with high-risk of disk failure and low speeds, can I ask your opinions on the buy? Should I consider it? It does seem cheaper than any of the 4TB drives I've found.

u/Cardant · 1 pointr/DataHoarder

That seems like a good advice.
I was thinking of getting these : https://www.amazon.com/Seagate-Expansion-Portable-External-STEA4000400/dp/B017KE8OG0 but it appears to be 15mm high.
Is there any 9.5mm 2.5" external drives that are bigger than 2TB though ?

u/ext23 · 0 pointsr/PS4

Sorry, I lied, it was $90 when I got it. Lowest price ever according to Camelcamelcamel.

It's 2018, soon to be 2019...people should know the default 500gb isn't enough anymore. I've had an external 4TB for years. Works great (and word on the street is it improves load times as well?). Here's the one I've used with my PS4 with great success if anyone is interested.
