The whole setup cost like 60 bucks. Old raids don't take an awful lot of concentration, so that's my jam.

And with the purchase I just made, I'm probably done for Prime Day.

This year's damages:

You've gotten a few good pieces of advice, so I won't repeat those, and add:

Mix decks that can be mixed - Those 3 locations and the general locations? Shuffle those together into one big pile. When you draw a card for a location, scan the backs to the card color you need and draw the first one. When the deck is out of a color you need, shuffle the discard pile and put it on the bottom of the draw deck. This is a Mansions of Madness 2e styled "time saver" - meaning you take something that is part of setup time and then split it into smaller chunks during play so that people don't notice it/can multitask.

For many games, I like to use GMT Counter Trays. They aren't very deep, but that is important if you want them to fit in the box and thus will limit how many components you can put in them. However, with many games you can keep enough in them (games with counters and not big wooden bits); but the ability to pull out the tray and just pop off the top completely is wondeful (rather than having to deal with a lid that is attached, like plano boxes or some other counter trays). I am also thinking of trying some DVG deep counter trays, but the downside to those is they are thicker in the box.

I like to bag each of my enemy decks into one baggie with a label on it (well, I actually made tuckboxes eventually for them). This lets you quickly pull out one enemy set of cards after quickly scanning for which one you need by name. It is a small time saver, but small time savers matter.

Finally TV Trays or Laptop Carts could be used to extend your table length and then put away afterwords. Something like this would help. Oh, and as a side note, if you have the money to burn you could also get this insanely awesome storage solution.

I did, thanks for asking! After doing a lot of thrifting and sale hunting, I ended up grabbing Forza Horizon 1 for the 360, a refurbished Thrustmaster 458 wheel, aaaand.....a cheap laptop computer desk. That last one definitely wasn't ideal compared to specialized racing mounts, but I was doing my best to keep prices down, and it honestly worked a lot better than I expected. Turning it around backwards ended up being very comfortable for the wheel and pedals, so long as you're wary of the center bar. The only thing I want to do now is weigh it down a bit so its a little more tolerant of turns on the wheel. Honestly I want to weigh the pedals down too, as they tended to move around on the carpet. All in all though, the whole setup worked pretty damn well for what we paid for it! As for Forza Horizon, it was EXACTLY what I was looking for. Better than I could have hoped for, in fact! Before bringing it to my grandfather I tweaked the settings to make it as userfriendly as I could. Got through the tutorial, made the controls as forgiving as possible, disabled the music, unlocked a few classic cars, etc. I also set the xbox up so it would boot directly to the game, which ought to help a lot. So far my mother and I have gotten him to play once, and he had an absolute blast doing so! It really warmed my heart seeing him laugh and smile as he played the game. He was just moved into the memory care unit of the retirement campus, so we are hoping we can bring the whole setup into his new living space so it can be a permanent fixture in his life. Should be attempting this in the next few months; I'm both excited and nervous to see if I can convince his aides to help make it a regular part of his day!

haha, my little guy loves to play with my g302 but i cant find him any games a 19Mo can handle (looking for flash, pointer games, or even just a trippy trail following the cursor)

we have a very simlar set-up i ended up buying 2 of these

and this awesome desk

i love it, i can play with M&Kb from any seat on the couch. i left the wheels off mine so i can pull it real close so i can sit back while i get rekt.

edit: damn didn't notice you already have that monster on a desk (thought it was a tv stand)

Just a suggestion. If you play on a laptop from a couch or a comfy chair, consider this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0097GMHXG/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I just replaced my old stand with it, and it’s perfect.

Either that^ or this

I used to be in the market for this and tried out a bunch of different products. Ultimately, they all really didn't work out at all since there's a lot of compromises. Even if you got a lap board that was stable enough, you'd still be compensating a little bit with the mouse since it's not perfectly flat.

What I did was I took a step back and actually thought of what I needed for this PC couch gaming problem. All you really need is a desk that has legs that can slide under your couch and a stable platform to put a M+KB on. A desk that has legs that can go under your couch is key, since you can put it as close to you as possible so you can slouch in the couch or sit upright and game, whatever your preference is.

I got this from Amazon for under $50. https://www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B0097GMHXG/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Add ANY KB+M + mousepad and you're set. There's probably other similar desks/TV tray that would work better as well, but the same principle applies.

this one is big enough for my k70 and a trackball

The desk is an Ikea Fredde: https://www.ikea.com/us/en/catalog/products/50219044/

The side tables are adapted laptop stands. I went with these guys because of how the floor part interacts with the base of the chair:

Note: I did not put the casters on my laptop stands.

If I want to do room scale VR, I can slide the two tables off to the side of the room and I'm set.

Does anyone have any recommendations for a small, standing laptop stand/desk? Like this one but actually tall enough to use while standing?

u/wrxdrunkie · 1 pointr/AlienwareAlpha

I use the razer turret and for more serious sessions I use this mobile laptop desk https://www.amazon.com/Seville-Classics-WEB162-Mobile-Laptop/dp/B0097GMHXG/ref=lp_490625011_1_4?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1468464778&sr=1-4

Use a wireless gaming mouse with a 10 keyless keyboard and I can fit my mouse and keyboard right on the table. Height adjustable and can slide the feet under the couch so the keyboard and mouse are right over your lap.
