Some derailleurs allow the cage (that's the name of the metal part the chain is suppose to go through) to be broken through a Phillips screw.

If this is not the case, you will have to break the chain, pass it through, and reconnect it again. I highly recommend you use a chain link (check if your chain is 8 speed, 9 speed, etc and buy the respective link) and a chain breaker. It is not complicated, you can do it.

For maintenance or technical question I recommend the good people of /r/bikewrench. Good luck.

It is easy, takes only a few seconds but you need a chain tool (this one is good for $10) unless your chain has quick links (pretty much no new bikes come like this, I wouldn't even bother checking).

Or some cycling multitools come with a built in chain tool.

Joining the chain back together after is also easy, but only if you have a quick link, the other ways are much trickier and easy to screw up, so I'd suggest getting one if you plan to do this (they cost about $10 for a pack of six on Amazon or you can buy individual ones from local bike shop for $3-4). Just make sure to get one that matches the number of speeds your bike has at the rear (i.e. 6/7/8 speed, 9 speed, 10 speed or 11 speed)
