I get what you are trying to say but its not actually that simple.
A lot of the cables only do HDMI in to DisplayPort out.
Even with cables that have one HDMI end and one DP end, although yes you can plug them in, they will not output a display. They only convert a signal from DP to HDMI, not HDMI to DP.

Seeing all the other posts, probably the easiest solution is to buy one of these

assuming youre below 4k, this should be fine. (nearly guaranteed on a tv without dp)
That way you can plug your TV into a displayport output and if you buy a new 144hz monitor use the cable that comes with it (displaport to displayport) to get full resolution and 144hz.
Also coming from the other comments, you sure as hell dont need a splitter. just get a cable going displayport to hdmi instead of splitting signals if you have 4 outs on the card.
