This device does it all. Every face button you never knew you didn't need. Almost complete keyboard on back, extremely reliable for no-look typing. Very accurate air mouse.

However, it's USB wireless, so CEC TV On won't work once the Mi Box is asleep.

But hey, it's <$20. Just get it.

I bought this and found it to be an upgrade in every way.

I already have a USB 3.0 hub I got for less than 10 dollars, so the fact that it requires a tiny USB dongle to work doesn't bother me much. Any remote with an air mouse function that uses gyroscopes will use 2.4ghz instead of bluetooth for some reason.

I have a long USB cable running out to the other room along with the HDMI and I have a USB hub on the end that lets me connect one of these:

And also one of these:

I finally got around to testing this out. Using your example didn't work for me. I guess nVidia Shield Gamepad isn't seen as a remote and neither is the Fire TV Remote (gen 2).

Side Note: What a pain in the ass it is to re-upload custom keymaps, reload the keymap, and open up a video for testing. Fortunately I'm editing in Sublime Text, using Teamviewer to do the file transfer, added a shortcut to "reloadkeymaps" action on my menu, and used a TV recording.

Before I realized only certain keyname tags are only applicable to the particular sections, I tried using <gamepad> & <remote> like in this example:

<gamepad>
<back>Pause</back>
<browser_back>Pause</browser_back>
<backspace>Pause</backspace>
</gamepad>

None of those worked with my two devices. What eventually worked:

<keyboard>
<backspace>Pause</backspace>
</keyboard>

But only for my Fire TV Remote. So I had to do this for the Shield gamepad:

<joystick>
<button id="2">Pause</button>
</joystick>

However, what I really want is for it to PAUSE and GO BACK when I hit the back button or B button. Not just pause. And I don't see a way to combine two actions to one button press. I might play with creating my own scripts as mentioned here: https://forum.kodi.tv/showthread.php?tid=125859

So I just went with setting the backspace key to PreviousMenu and at that point I can hit play/pause on the Fire TV Remote. But for the nVidia Shield Gamepad, I had to also map the "Start" button. So I settled for this:

<joystick>
<button id="2">PreviousMenu</button>
<button id="8">Pause</button>
</joystick>

This turned out to be handy for reference: https://github.com/koying/SPMC/blob/spmc-jarvis/system/keymaps/joystick.xml.sample

Our differences could be something to do with me using the fork, SPMC 16.7.1.

There's probably a lot more I could do (that I can't think of at the moment) now that I've familiarized myself with keymaps so I'm glad I took the time to read through the wiki a bit and play around with them. Maybe someone else will benefit from what I've learned.

I'm pretty annoyed there isn't a decent remote out there with a keyboard on the back, voice input, IR learning, and air mouse (or better yet a trackball) that doesn't annihilate batteries. And maybe is WiFi or bluetooth instead of RF. I used this one for awhile but it tears through batteries at a ridiculous rate - https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015O5UM6M/
I'd also get rid of the channel # keys on the front and add more IR learning keys. I opted for the back-lit version over the voice input version and ended up wishing I had the voice input more often than not. Not sure why these features are mutually exclusive.

In the end, I prefer the Fire TV gen 2 remote for it's compactness, voice input, and key layout. And my trackball keyboard if I really need to type a lot of things out.

Which devices are you using to control Kodi?

I got this for my old man and it was great for bridging the gap between his old receiver and nvidia. He needed some simple IR functionality, and this was incredibly easy to teach the bottom 4 colored buttons.

I picked up https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015O5UM6M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o00_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 for my Rapsberry PI it works great the gyro function is a bit off sometimes but it is easy and quick to calibrate

u/o0adam0o · 1 pointr/MiBox

The main selling point for the MiBox is the great price for a solid device AndroidTV device. If you are gonna play high resolution Android games then the Shield TV will be much better. If $100 (the price difference) isnt a big deal to you...get the Shield TV, its indeed the best thing available.

This remote has been solid for me. I even got a 2nd one for another box. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015O5UM6M/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I got mine on Amazon, which came from China anyway: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015O5UM6M/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

But the MX3 PRO you find on Ali all look exactly the same as mine.

I use a remote that has a curser option and that makes browsing and choosing a lot quicker. You point the remote at the screen and move the curser around. https://www.amazon.com/Updated-FeBite-Wireless-Keyboard-Compatible/dp/B015O5UM6M/ref=br_lf_m_st2czuab2zyw7b7_ttl?_encoding=UTF8&s=pc

u/DeltaEchoXray · 1 pointr/Vue

Do you like the remote? I've been reading that people don't find it ideal for Android TV, especially with Vue. I've been expecting to purchase a more user-friendly third party remote like this: https://www.amazon.com/Updated-FeBite-Wireless-Keyboard-Compatible/dp/B015O5UM6M/ref=pd_cp_23_2?_encoding=UTF8&pd_rd_i=B015O5UM6M&pd_rd_r=T7S6GBTXFJZ0MKH5G3GT&pd_rd_w=Z7q7B&pd_rd_wg=wChaQ&psc=1&refRID=T7S6GBTXFJZ0MKH5G3GT

Some of the 2015 models on Ebay get bundled with the new remote too.

This is the one I bought and looks to be the same. It works really well. The air mouse is weird getting used to it but still works well.

u/bigdon199 · 0 pointsr/AndroidTV

The febite mx3 pro can do IR on the power button as well as the bottom 4 colored buttons. I'm using it with a raspberry pi3 running libreelec and have the power button turn on/off the tv since the pi is the only thing plugged in and it stays on all the time. I programmed the bottom 4 for input switching, mute and vol +/- but I just have the tv turned up loud enough that I'm using the volume control within kodi via the vol +/- on the remote and haven't needed the bottom 4. I think there's a few minor variations on those air mouse type remotes, the one I got is at https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B015O5UM6M

Thank you for the reply. I have the following usb air mouse which works great in Android tv and in the app, except it doesn't work to click on this button which was designed for a touch screen press...
