Put more money into your graphics card, it is where you will get the most bang for your buck.

Unless you feel you really need a DVD player and would use it often most builds these days can just go without them.

8GB of RAM is fine you won't be going over that without hitting lots of bottlenecks from the rest of the system first.

The biggest thing is, don't buy new from the 700 or 900 series GPUs. You can get a GTX 1050 for not much difference in price but a huge difference in performance. If you are buying a 700 series but it used and you could get a 770 or so for around what you would pay for a 750Ti new. Since they don't make old GPUs their new prices don't drop and reflect their power relative to newer cards very well. Each card releases at the same pricepoint as the similar model before it. So a 750Ti releases at about the game price as a 950Ti or 1050Ti making there be little reason to buy the previous gen unless it has dropped a lot in price.

Just a quick glance at eBay shows many 770s for around what you would be paying for the 750Ti. Though if you do have a problem with buying used and want new, which is understandable, don't buy the 700 series as you will be overpaying significantly. A 770/960/1050Ti are all theoretically roughly the same amount of power and not too far off in costs either. These would be good ones to look into getting the best bang for your buck. As an example, a very quick search shows a Zotac GTX 1050 for $110 which is a much better deal.

Depending on how soon you want your PC you can keep an eye on sales to snag all of your parts much cheaper. Over the course of a month by watching sales you can easily save 10-40% off the entire build.

u/puckbeaverton · 3 pointsr/AskMen

lol @ XBone. Sounds like the name of a villain in a 90s action movie.

Here's the deal. You can go the console route, and that's fine. But you're going to spend a lot more money in the long run.

You buy a PS4, an xbox one, a switch, whatever. Call it $400. OK. Cool. You buy games for it. $40, $30, $50. Sweet. Controllers. $50 $50 $50... Shit it's getting expensive. New games come out. Why the fuck are they $60 a piece? Holy shit. You wait a while. Jesus they only went down to $55? FFFFFFUUUUUU I wanna playyyyyyy.... Why aren't there more games and cheaper games? Granted, you do have the nice option to buy classic games on PSN and for Switch. Ugh.....fine, I'll shell out for Overwatch. Fine. I'll shell out for Destiny 2. Fuuuuck that was like $120. What....what the fuck is this? PS5? Nintendo Switch2?

ARE YOU FUCKING KIDDING ME?

BUT. Let me play out that scenario for you on a PC.

Total cost: $570 US, or roughly what you'd spend on your console and a few controllers.

BUT, now you have the entire library of all the computer games ever made at your disposal. Not to mention that, but you've got emulators to play all those classics that you could have bought on the PSN/Switch.

And instead of paying $60 every time a new game comes out, you look at what came out about 6 months ago. You put it on your steam wishlist. You get an email someday soon that says "an item on your wishlist is on sale."

Oh holy shit. Doom is $16. Holy fuck, it's the steam summer sale. Games are 75% off, 80% off....they're basically giving them away.

Then you sign up for Humble Bundle.

Holy shit. You can get Alien Isolation for $5.

These are 5 star games we're talking here. Not to mention you get like 10 no names to go with it. Hell, you're probably going to spend hours playing some of those.

Pretty soon you've got 100+ games that you may have spent a few hundred dollars on. Things are great, but you decide hey, I would LIKE to have a little more FPS on these. So you order yourself a new GT 1080, and sell your 1050 on ebay making back about $50. Later on down the line you decide to upgrade the processory, maybe add a stick of ram later. Now you got a stew goin. But you don't have to, that rig will play almost anything (though possibly on lower visual settings)

PC is just more budget friendly in my opinion. You never have to just throw the whole thing away and get a new one. You can always replace components and upgrade things individually. There's never new platforms to learn, get used to. You can always use your same old controller, and you can always play your old games. In my view, buying consoles is basically throwing away money because you have to buy so much hardware EVERY TIME they decide to release a new console.

There's give and take to it. I just like the stability and deep discounts I get from Steam, GOG, and Humble Bundle. I wouldn't even game if it wasn't this cheap.

Do you use HDMI or display port or something else?

If HDMI, then this cable from Amazon: https://www.amazon.com/Cable-Matters-USB-C-Supporting-Black/dp/B073H9RG9T ($16.99)
This external graphics card enclosure: https://www.amazon.com/Sonnet-Breakaway-Thunderbolt-Expansion-GPU-350W-TB3Z/dp/B072L9QTZT/ref=sr_1_4?keywords=External+Graphics+card+enclosure&qid=1557706012&s=electronics&sr=1-4 ($199.00)
This graphics card (csgo doesn't need good graphics just that you don't use intel hd graphics): https://www.amazon.com/ZOTAC-GeForce-DisplayPort-128-bit-ZT-P10510A-10L/dp/B01M4MIU94/ref=sr_1_21?keywords=External%2Bgraphics%2Bcard&qid=1557705855&s=gateway&sr=8-21&th=1 ($139.99)

Total cost: $355.98 + shipping

Since you own a Mac you are rich and therefore this isn't a problem.

u/RECOGNI7ER · 3 pointsr/FortNiteBR

This is almost my exact same setup on one of my PC's.

I have a i7 2600, 16gb ram, 512ssd, gtx1050. I stay over 100 fps which is very playable.

These are the settings I play on

Not low but somewhere in the middle. And the only thing holding it back is the GPU. I just a bought a gtx 960 for 70 bucks for a different computer.

The computer I linked is arguably better then mine and if you throw a ~$150 GPU in it I am sure you would get decent FPS on medium and high.

If you do go this route then you need to get a small form factor GPU. Like this

Look on craigslist for GPUS, people regularly upgrade and there are a bunch of 2-4 gb ones out there.

u/poonedundies · 2 pointsr/hardwareswap

Okay. I'm gonna pass if it was 4gb the price would be decent but you have this listed for new prices. Glws.

Edit: Price Proof

u/scottg96 · 2 pointsr/buildapc

Funny you say that, I actually just pulled the trigger on this GTX 1050 for $110. Reviews on both Amazon and elsewhere seemed pretty good and I figured that's a pretty amazing price.

u/madpacket · 2 pointsr/bapcsalescanada

Not worth it. These should be no more than $120.00 given what else is available on the market. Remember Maxwell to Pascal there were some decent improvements in delta color memory compression AFAIK. So take this into consideration when comparing a 2GB 1050 to one of these models. Also with ITX sized cards, you're generally squeezing them into tight spaces, and the 1050's use about half of the energy of what the 960 consumes.

Look how close the performance is between a regular 2GB 1050 and a 2GB 960. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kcWeJKs9Y1c

A brand new Zotac ITX sized 1050 sells for $23.00 less at only $142 https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B01M4MIU94

u/Alakazam · 2 pointsr/buildapc

I'd probably just recommend getting the best PC you can get for 200 pounds, then spending the rest on a 1050.

Maybe something along the lines of this old PC?

u/I_Phaze_I · 2 pointsr/nvidia

If you don't plan on gaming, i would suggest getting this, if you must get a video card.https://www.amazon.com/ZOTAC-GeForce-DisplayPort-128-bit-ZT-P10500A-10L/dp/B01M4MIU94/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1488048620&sr=8-3&keywords=gtx+1050+low+profile .If not the intel onboard igpu should suffice, just make sure to pair it with dual channel memory at the highest clocks available on your board to get the most out of the igpu.

u/DistressedSignal · 2 pointsr/pcmasterrace

Here's one from my country with all of its added tax glory.

https://www.amazon.in/Zotac-GeForce-ZT-P10500A-10L-Express-Graphics/dp/B01M4MIU94

INR 13,799.00 = USD 211.68

I sure love paying a premium for electronic components.

u/Gonadventure · 2 pointsr/buildapc

RX 460 or GTX 1050

I would choose between these two GPUs. Again, either choice will be more powerful, less expensive, and more efficient than any GTX 950.

*The 460 and 1050 are basically identical in performance.

Edit: If you're looking to spend in the $160 range, I'd highly recommend an RX 470. Here is one for 145 after a rebate. This gpu is much more powerful than the 460/1050 and is nearly as powerful as the 480/1060 for a fraction of the price.

Edit: And here's an RX 480 on sale for $160 after rebate. That's stupidly cheap for a 480, so I'd highly highly recommend picking up on this sale if you're looking to spend $160.

u/Adky · 1 pointr/sweden

Sitter du endast på inet så är det väldigt uppenbart att du inte vet vad du håller på med. För 3500-4000kr får man en dator som är mycket bättre än ett PS4. Det är också nya delar, vilket jag inte skulle rekommendera med så låg budget.

u/tryingtopassfinals · 1 pointr/buildapc

What would be a worthwhile upgrade?

Edit: This 1050 is $100, and based on a few quick Google searches, it is slightly better than the RX460. What do you think?

u/dalmationblack · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

This card seems cheaper, although I haven't checked the shipping on either.

u/johnnyp42 · 1 pointr/computers

Yeah, it's a little old though. If you buy something more current you'll get better performance for the same price or less.

Your thought process is correct in thinking that the GPU is the place to start, however, your CPU and RAM limitations will certainly be your (childrens') downfall in playing anything more demanding than minecraft, etc. If you really want to help right away, your best bet is something like this, but in the long run, you may just want to save up for a complete overhaul and start from scratch.

u/GIDAMIEN · 1 pointr/computers

yes now you are on to something worth buying. at some point you are going to want to change that video card to something better, this won't be great as it stands for GTA, but it's a start.

if you are gaming on a budget, this will do

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Asus-Strix-GTX950-DC2-2GD5-Gaming-GDDR5-Graphics-Card/dp/B014A06D6K/ref=sr_1_6?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1480369422&sr=1-6&keywords=gtx+950

if you have a little more to spend, you'll want to consider this

https://www.amazon.co.uk/Zotac-GeForce-1050-Mini-Graphics/dp/B01M4MIU94/ref=sr_1_6?s=computers&ie=UTF8&qid=1480369480&sr=1-6&keywords=gtx+1050

when you are really ready you want to put an SSD in that machine and keep the 1tb for data, then maybe move up to a GTX 1070 card, but you should get decent life out of this machine.

I have something similar with a GTX 960 in it, and I can play GTA at 30fps, and most other games, like Fallout 4 quite smoothly

u/efeex · 1 pointr/hardwareswap

I have a brand new, in box, GTX 1050. $90 local (98121). Bit more if I need to ship the card.

u/pc_throwawa · 1 pointr/buildapc

Thanks for the reply. I was considering GTX 1050 but it is priced quite high on amazon.in. I'll check with local vendors about this.

e: BTW, you're talking about GTX 1050 2GB right? How good is the ZOTAC "mini" model?
e2: grammar

u/Dragynfyre · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

It's cheaper in Germany

https://www.amazon.de/dp/B01M4MIU94/?tag=pcp05-21

Not sure if that ships to your country

u/TheKlaypex · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

where do I find such gpu's?
EDIT: is this such a card ? gtx1050

u/majttolosa · 1 pointr/buildapc

Cool, it actually has a place for a gpu. But I don't know if newer gpu can fit in that.

Maybe this? https://www.amazon.ca/GeForce-DisplayPort-Dual-Link-Graphics-ZT-P10500A-10L/dp/B01M4MIU94/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1486273330&sr=8-1&keywords=gtx+1050+mini

but I think the shroud may be too thick?

u/zeldamaster03 · 1 pointr/pcmasterrace

Is it quad core? If so you could buy a gtx 1050 and get playable framrates. https://www.amazon.ca/GeForce-DisplayPort-Dual-Link-Graphics-ZT-P10500A-10L/dp/B01M4MIU94/ref=mp_s_a_1_2?keywords=zotac+gtx+1050&qid=1550958024&s=gateway&sr=8-2
P.s. this card doesnt need a power connector so you can use any pc with pci e

u/DonnyJoseph0 · 1 pointr/buildapc

Really difficult to recommend building a computer over taking a pre-built presently. The inflated RAM and GPU prices are harsh enough, if your Windows license is non-transferable it's practically a no-brainer if you're on a budget.

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Desktop-i3-7100-Windows-TC-780-ACKi3/dp/B071DM6TWM/

https://www.amazon.com/ZOTAC-DisplayPort-Dual-Link-Graphics-ZT-P10500A-10L/dp/B01M4MIU94/

As of this writing, you could buy the former and plug in the latter for a total of $505 or so. It should render most games comfortably playable on 1080p with good settings.

https://www.amazon.com/HP-Pavilion-580-023w-i5-7400-Graphics/dp/B077S27YLP/

If you're looking for something a fair amount stronger, there's the HP 580-023w rocking an i5-7400 and GTX 1060 for $680 (and no hunt for a decent price GPU necessary).

It's only really around the $900+ mark that building yourself should really become a consideration in my opinion.
