These are oil painting palette knives. You can get inexpensive sets on eBay.
https://www.amazon.com/Palette-Painting-Stainless-Knives-Carrying/dp/B00LGZMUOC/ref=sr_1_6
Sets come in various sizes, but you probably want a selection of knives with more small heads than large ones. The different shapes can be helpful for avoiding solder points and small electronic bits on the mobo.
As for getting through the glue, like ayunatsume, I didn't use a heat gun. I did use an ordinary hair dryer (just let it blow on the lid for 5 minutes) and held the blade in a candle flame before each cut, but I can't really say either was effective. Some people recommend running the PS3 for 20-30 minutes first so that the hot chips themselves soften the glue (I suppose you could half-disassemble it or something).
Finding the exact gap for the glue is definitely tricky, but once you start, you'll zero in on it each time. Search on "delid ps3" on YouTube for videos. Definitely watch a few to get multiple perspectives.
ayunatsume has excellent useful ideas. Thread (or fishing line, perhaps) to cut the lid glue is very interesting! And adding pressure to the clamps with bits of popsicle stick is like the penny or copper shim technique (some people say using copper helps with heat dispersion).
The car filler is bondo yes it is easy to use and fairly easy to sand. Mix in small batches, about the size of a golf ball and spread with a plastic spatula that can be found at the store usually right beside the filler. I have found artistic palette knives help a lot in mixing and spreading as well. Then you will sand ->primer -> sand, (repeating with finer grit sandpaper and then finally painting when you are happy with the surface.
What material are you printing with? PLA usually comes free when it cools, but other materials don’t really come free. I’d highly recommend an artist pallet knife like this one. They are thin and curved so they can get under a print so you can peel it off.
I got this set of gamblin 1980 paints from Amazon. The 1980 line are high quality student grade, perfect for beginners. Extra 1980 paints from Jerry's Artarama (quinacridone magenta, burnt umber, burnt sienna, blush, and also warm white from the artist grade line. They sell the intro 1980 set on there too which is currently cheaper than Amazon. Also got a couple mediums on here (galkyd & galkyd gel). From Trekell I got gamsol mineral spirits, linseed oil soap for cleaning brushes, gamvar satin varnish, varnish brush. From Asel silicoil for gamsol/ cleaning brushes during printing and acrylic gesso for ground (you can get these from anywhere though). Other supplies from Dollar store: airtight jar w/ water for dirtied paper towels/ rags, nitrile gloves, 2 glass panel 8x10 picture frames (to use glass n tape together to be palette), paper towels/shop towels. 400 grit sand sponge to sand gesso from Amazon. palette knives from Amazon. Paint brushes/ canvas panels from Walmart/was gifted other artist grade brushes/canvases. Use the honey extension on your browser to help w/ coupons. It's taken a while to gather/be gifted these supplies; it can be a pricey medium but I think oil painting is absolutely worth it.
I have a few suggestions for you
DO NOT USE A RAZOR OF ANY KIND! You need to review pictures of how the CELL IHS is secured to the chip. It's a strip of silicone. Get the orientation correct and then use blade 1 from this set. Heat the RSX chip to loosen the glue and then pop it off with a blunt butter knife with a thick price of paper between the knife and chip. Make sure you do it from the correct place as there are capacitors you can break. You don't need to glue the IHS back into place. Thermal paste and tension will hold them properly. Do your research. Learn what people are doing and then work slowly. There are traces on the surfaces of these chips and if you damage them, game over.
I have a set of palate knives for oil painting that I use. They are really thin and flexible. It works well for me. Here is a similar set to the ones I use:
https://www.amazon.com/Painting-Stainless-Spatula-Accessories-Painting-Lightwish/dp/B072P1R5B7/
Our spatulas are longer and thinner (more like this). I actually have the business end bend just a little bit to give me a bit of a scoop edge.
so im looking to get into 3d Printing, and unless someone has some better option, im going with the MP Select Mini.
My question is on the other things i need. Here is the list of the things im looking to buy along with the printer:
I have a set of exacto knives and a screw bit set. Is there anything else im missing?
I use #3 in this set, but I didn't buy the entire set. I have the biggest one also, but it doesn't get used much.
