As I was documenting the various harnesses, leashes, and muzzles we've accumulated for Scully in less than two months adopting her, it had me thinking: what tools have brought you success with your reactive pup?

  • Easy Walk Harness: We are moving to the Gentle Leader head harness at the recommendation of our behaviorist, but I think the Easy Walk Harness helped Scully understand the concept of going on a walk in itself at the start.
  • "In Training" Vest: It sounds funny, but this vest has helped me a lot. While out on a walk, people recognize that Scully and I are working; they normally get out of the way, or at least seem more understanding when she has a reaction.
  • Treat Pouch: Everyone thinks I'm a dog trainer when I have this thing on. I think it helps my confidence in the same way the vest does. Also, keeping a stash of treats and poop bags here lets me keep a hand free.

    Honorable Mentions:
    Clicker: Love!
Travel Kennel! I love, love this. Scully went insane her second car ride, and it was unsafe for everyone involved. Since she is already crate trained she was comfortable with this very quickly. I do have to put a blanket over it as she can see through the mesh windows.

My cat is crate trained. We bought a large multi-level crate, and have been crating him since he was a kitten. He's perfectly fine sleeping on his soft pad on the top shelf in the crate. I would highly recommend this for anyone who doesn't want an annoying cat.

AmazonBasics Large 3-Tier Cat Cage Playpen Box Crate Kennel - 36 x 22 x 51 Inches, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07CMY5Y1P/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_FsjmDb6Q5C1N9

He's got some toys hanging from the top of the crate, and the second shelf to entertain him. We put food and water in the bottom of the crate, and he usually doesn't need to use the litter box over night. Sometimes he meows a bit to tell us he needs to go, we let him go, then pop him back in and back to sleep. Thats very rare though.

When we tell people they seem very confused, I guess it's weird to crate train a cat. We lived in a small apartment when we got him and didn't want to worry about him getting into the wires for our electronics, etc while we were asleep. So it seemed like a logical solution.

He spends most of his time in here:
https://www.amazon.com/IRIS-3-Tier-Wire-Cage-Gray/dp/B009LCU51M

but I am trying to figure out how to add this thing (which I already have in the house) https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MU2FAYC/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 in a way that he can't climb out of it (we are building a roof, basically).

I'm thinking of stretching it out to be long and narrow instead of a big hexagon, possibly putting that section behind the couch so he can get at a window.

Thank you for your kindness, you have made me feel a lot better about all of this.

May I recommend one of these? With some modifications, the bottom could be cut out and eye-hole rivets could be added to the inside bottom (when removing the floor, you'd leave a few inches of fabric to pop those in every four to six inches).

Then you can buy additional tent-pegs to attach the bottom to the ground (so that your pig can't crawl under the side and get out). He could be "in the yard," complete with grass, but safe from hawks flying above.

You just need some basic sewing skills and a few hours of time to make the modifications.

Alternatively, you could buy one of those cat mesh tunnel things that has the ends you can zip on, so he's outside, but again protected from hawks.

For the cats safety you may want to kennel when you’re out. I bought one of these for my kitten until he was big enough and outgrown chewing wires.
Room for bed, food and litter. Gave me peace of mind.

Cat cages, like this one can make good chinchilla cages with some minor modifications, and are usually less costly than cages marketed towards chinchillas.

Would something like this work?

I would suggest using something like Feliway (as mentioned) and/or restricting them to one room. Barring that, a kennel like this: Prevue Pet Products Premium/Deluxe Cat Home, Black https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015RRSZXO/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_sek2BbMS548E2

Is really what you would have to use, and you’re going to probably need 2 of them for 3 cats. I would not keep a cat in a dog kennel for an extended period of time (unless it’s for transportation or something else temporary).

I have used a canvas collapsible crate in my trunk. You can just fold it down when the dog's not coming. This is what I have, it's cheap and has held up really well. I also really like the idea of easily being able to slice it open in the event of an accident.

I found this while looking for anti-scratch aides for my cat:

u/idk_lets_try_this · 1 pointr/HelpMeFind

All the ones i find either have wheels at the bottom so cats can go under them or are over the budget.

Have you thought about these things?

u/DebMo_Cu · 3 pointsr/TrollXFunny

I bought this one

I have 2 cats so I wanted plenty of room. It’s worked really well for short periods of confinement. Big enough to hold a litter box if it needed to in an emergency.
