Because they are wimpy. FYI this is huge, heavy and sucks way too much power. I'm hoping the ooga horn will work better. Also contemplating how to fit a 500mm long truck air horn and compressor.
meep meep! Yeah, I don't know why the stock horns on bikes are so pitiful. It's a fairly cheap, bolt-on upgrade, though. I have a pair of these secured behind my fairing. Totally invisible setup. You'll need a relay kit to feed power directly from battery to the horn. Your stock horn lead will provide the "on" signal to the relay. I used this wiring kit, but I'm sure there are others out there.
I also left my stock horn, and spliced the wire to re-feed it, so i actually have 3 horns!
They WILL turn around and run the opposite way from how they are facing. I've ridden by thousands of deer but the only one I ever hit was facing away from me in the road, and turned around to run into me as I was going behind it. Forest rats are the worst kind of stupid.
Idk if they work, but I was riding in the northwest recently and put deer whistles on. Didn't hit anything, but an elk did stand in the road and look at me funny while I stopped to get by. They make electric ones too. Not sure if maybe they would work better. https://www.amazon.com/Deer-Avoidance-System-Motorcycles-Hornet/dp/B001LIRTZO
Saying "don't ride at night (dawn/dusk)" is not really a valid response for some riders. Sure if your just bar hopping or hitting the curvy roads on the weekends that's fine. I travel all over the US on the bike and am riding in the dark about 40% of the time. I do have very good auxillary lights though which does help to see the deer. I have a couple of friends who actually have FLIR cameras on their bikes with a screen so they can see the critters a half mile down the road and hidden in the bushes.

I have a screw hole in the bottom of the head tube (For a fender). So this mounted perfectly to that. I hid a battery in the headtube, it barely fit, I got lucky. And I put a switch on my handlebars.
Other than some wire and connectors from radio shack. This is all I needed...

I don't have any recommendations but I saw some on amazon when I was looking for headlights earlier today.

Third-ed on the Stebel Nautilus Compact air horn and its clones. I have one on my 'Strom.
You have to mount them in a way that the compressor won't draw in water, or they don't last long.
They're freaking loud, though, and they definitely work to scare drifting cages back into their lanes. I like to describe the sound as an Italian bread truck horn--it's a two-tone air horn but is higher-pitched than an American semi truck's air horn.
Otherwise, Freeway Blasters are a popular magnetic disc horn; there's a high and a low, and you can use either or both. They can be mounted directly in the rain with no ill effects.
Finally, this one will definitely fit where your stock horn did, but it's not really any louder than stock.
This is a motorcycle horn.

I have an Orp Horn and Light combo. I like it because when it rains, bells can't resonate and make sound. I do wish it was louder (max vol at 96 dbl), but I can always supplement with a yell. :D
I do also have a crane bike bell. I use this for pedestrians because I don't want to confuse or alarm pedestrians with a horn sound. they'll respond much more predictably with a bell.
After some testing, come to find out that my fuse had blown. I believe both my stator and ignition coil are bad. I'm getting this "CDI" (TCI) https://www.amazon.com/QUIOSS-Manco-Talon-Linhai-Bighorn/dp/B01MXFGLR5/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=8+Pin+CDI+Yamaha&qid=1566793139&refinements=p_85%3A2470955011&rnid=2470954011&rps=1&s=automotive&sr=1-1 , This stator https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01M0M7UIU/ref=crt_ewc_title_dp_2?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A1U821NO27576X , and ignition coil https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07M5RNXXC/ref=crt_ewc_title_dp_1?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A16CYTN3L0RHD9 . You can't use just any GY6 ignition coil, it has to be TCI compatible. A common identifier for a TCI compatible ignition coil is that it's grounded by two screws.

The wiring diagram is found here https://atvconnection.com/forums/attachments/1-engine-problems/6556d1345695123-linhai-300cc-no-spark-buyang300_wd.jpg . On my bike there is no pink wire, its instead Black/Blue. The pinout to the CDI (TCI) https://images-na.ssl-images-amazon.com/images/I/41p65nxdWsL.jpg. The "Trigger" are the wires coming from the stator which in my case are Blue/Yellow & Black/Red. Not sure which one is plus or minus. I think plus is Black/Red and vice versa (Take that with a grain of salt). Battery (Killswitch) is Blue/Black. Ignition coil is Yellow/Black. Ground is Green. The other 3 pins are not used. The Yellow/Black to the ignition coil needs to be on the left pin (with the screw upright) and the Killswitch/Battery wire to the right.
If you don't have a compatible harness you can crimp on these 2.8mm spade connectors https://www.amazon.com/s?k=2.8+spade+connectors&i=automotive&ref=nb_sb_noss_1 . Maybe after you confirm that everything works you can hot glue them in place.
I hope this helps someone.
