Well, you have a few options. Depending on your price range, you can go with 2560x1080 which come in 25" (don't bother), 29" (sweet spot for ppi, same as 24"/25" 16:9 monitors), 34", or 35" (specifically the z35 for g-sync or xz35 for freesync). Benefit of 2560x1080 is being able to generally saturate the max refresh rate of your monitor, given the gpu you have and are going to buy. Only downside I can think of is with making such a long-term purchase as a monitor, you're "only" getting 1080p, but I don't really see that as an issue as others might. Also, most of these monitors only go up to 75hz, only the very high end cards reach any higher, and those are usually either g-sync for the acer x34 which goes to 100hz @ 1440p or the acer (x)z35 which goes to I think 144hz @ 1080p.

There are also 3440x1440 monitors and those usually only come in 34". I can't think of any other sizes, someone correct me if I'm wrong.

Also, do you want curved or not? I don't have an ultrawide but I've been researching them for a couple years now and I think it comes down to the size of the monitor. I think 25" and 29" ultrawides are fine for being flat, since they're only so wide but once you get into 34" territory, it would be such a large screen that it is beneficial to have the curve, which is pretty much what the market really offers: no curved 25" or 29" and most, if not all, 34" are curved. The curve helps keep the same distance from each edge of the screen to your eyes the same. These do come at a higher price, though.

Prices for each respective size

> do you guys think the AW will go any lower than 849.99 (price on microcenter)?

Watch /r/buildapcsales. This monitor gets posted almost weekly. $849.99 is fairly common, but we've seen a few posts in the last month or so where it's gone a little lower. Here's a few recent but expired examples:

I'm lucky and already had a Spyder 5 Express that I use to calibrate my theater projector. It's more important for that because as the bulb ages, the calibration needs to be done again so it's a matter of keeping it looking its best. The bonus is that I can calibrate every monitor in my house too (which there are a shitload including the AW34 haha).

Another thought, if you have a few friends who game with high end monitors, is to see if they want to go in on it. Split 3 or 4 ways, the cost is low and you can keep passing it around as necessary. Just realize that many monitors come out of the box with a halfway decent calibration so don't expect a miracle but it's nice to know that you have a perfectly accurate display for every movie u watch, game u play, or photo u edit. Oh, there's a nice before/after switch you can toggle when the calibration is done which is pretty cool.

Otherwise, I would use the link that _blackwatch listed below and do it by eye. That works pretty well too.

Cheers!

Yeah I prefer looking side to side especially since (if you're using windows) windows will attempt to full screen when dragging programs up to the top monitor so you kinda have to give it a little momentum when moving windows around. From what I read it can be disabled though. I also find it easier to compare things side by side not vertically. The top monitor is really just an accessory monitor providing information at a glance (like skype or youtube) but not really part of the work im doing. The X34 has enough real estate that you can compare two documents side by side without other monitors but if you edit code or video having the whole monitor to work with and a little side monitor for grabbing resources is unbeatable. Though if you think its annoying looking left to right with a smaller 29" monitor its gonna be worse with a even larger 34". In the end its your call. If I didn't have the other 2 x34s I'd probably set a 23" up vertically off to the right just to see how it works. I'm also using a very similar pole setup:
http://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Single-Monitor-Adjustable-STAND-V001T/dp/B0155LJATK?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00

Same brand but it has an arm allowing me to adjust where I like it and angle it forward a bit over the bottom monitor.

The one carrying the X34 is a Loctek D7H which you may not need as the stand for the X34 is pretty amazing already just throw a pole mount behind it for the other monitor.
http://www.amazon.com/Loctek-Motion-Spring-Monitor-D7H/dp/B016M1LYA0?ie=UTF8&psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00

Thanks for the compliment. Good luck with your setup!

The top post has a good mount, but I thought I'd include another option in case your desk won't work with a clamp like that (mine didn't). This [mount](VIVO Dual LCD Monitor Desk Stand Free Standing Vertical 2 Screens up to 27" Black (STAND-V002H) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MTWCO1U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_LW.qzbK9FFYMK) is what I've been using since my desk wouldn't work with a clamp and it's been wonderful and super stable.

u/magidantech · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

I am using the Loctek D7L ( https://www.amazon.com/Loctek-Monitor-Spring-Weighting-13-2-33/dp/B01BXP9LT6/ref=mp_s_a_1_3?keywords=loctek+d7l&qid=1557947970&s=gateway&sprefix=loctek+&sr=8-3)
and once installed properly, I have not had any problems. Not necessarily cheap, but does the job.

If you do go with this one:

  1. Have 2ppl during installation to make it easier.
  2. Take off the vertical hinge from the stand and install it directly onto the monitor. Make sure to tighten everything. Lift the monitor and the vertical hinge onto the arm and tighten the hinge as hard as possible without stripping the bolt. Doing it this way, I was able to ensure there was no vertical sagging occurring which has plagued some users.

    Best of luck mate. Cheers.

If you upgrade GPU's every year, you might as well go with the higher resolution now. The 1070 can already handle the 3440x1440, but you may just need to lower the video settings from Ultra to High or possibly High/Medium mix depending on the game you're playing. Plus, having the extra screen space outside of gaming is nice to have.

For the price point you're looking at, these are worth considering:

Dell 3417W - 75Hz OC

LG 34UC88 - 75Hz OC

Acer XR342CK - 75Hz

Another one worth considering that offers 144hz @ 2560x1440 and 100Hz @ 3440x1440 is the relatively unknown Microboard M340CLZ brand found here. Some people swear by it on here but I have not tried it out myself.

Finally, there are at least a couple more 3440x1440 100Hz monitors due for release in a few months. One is the ASUS MX34VQ and another is the AG352UCG.

Good luck and welcome to the UWMS!

u/shenanigaaans · 3 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

I got this guy: Acer 35" curved 21:9 144Hz. It's about $100 more than the one you listed but thought you may like the option. Cheers
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A0FEBXQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_yWwJBb1BXRYC3

Edit--it's perfect for shooters, I've logged way too many hours in bf1 on it. Works great with my gtx 1060 6GB

u/Rooks4 · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

EDIT: Was on Mobile.. Now I can do this properly:

VIVO STAND-V001: https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Monitor-Adjustable-Articulating-STAND-V001/dp/B00B21TLQU/ref=pd_sim_229_1?ie=UTF8&dpID=31qDzCQi0%2BL&dpSrc=sims&preST=_AC_UL320_SR258%2C320_&psc=1&refRID=FMCRHCMATXGW2Y1S8HMF
This should work for your LG 25UM65 above the X34, but it'll be close and it doesn't have a lot of flexibility in terms of movement.

Loctek D7H: https://www.amazon.com/Loctek-D7H-supports-monitors-weighting/dp/B016M1LYA0/ref=sr_1_1?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1469722401&sr=1-1&keywords=D7H
Looks slick and has great movement. If your X34 is pushed all the way down on the stand, this SHOULD have enough clearance for the other monitor... might be close, but this gives you the flexibility to move the monitor around as you see fit.

Personally I've got a D7H for my X34 and I've got an old ASUS above it on the STAND-V001. I actually have my x34 on the stand ATM as I just got it and wanted ot make sure it worked before I mounted it... The first one didn't and it was a pain in the ass because I mounted it before testing (oops.. don't do that.)

You can see how they look stacked up with both mounted on the arms here:
http://imgur.com/a/jatTj

Just look at the bottom pictures... that monitor has been returned and the new one is perfect :)

u/lwhitit · 3 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

OP why not look at the LG 34uc88 instead of the 98? Do you need the thunderbolt?

Instead of the LG34UM95 you should be looking for the 34UM88 as it has a newer panel and is in the same price range.

Add me in to the list of owners with a 34uc88 who love it and have no image retention issues. I swapped from a dell 3415w. The one thing you do get with the dell is a 3 year advance exchange warranty which is nice but the LG has been as cheap as $650 with a newer panel (less blb, smaller bezel, freesync with 75hz (it wont help you no but its a good option to have)).

Monitors usually last a log time so it can be safe to assume you could have it for 5 years. There will always be something new coming out and the few upcoming ultrawides look really cool. The new samsung and x34p both have some cool new features but for a macbook monitor you would be fine with any of the above options.

u/Enarus · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Thanks for your answer.
Where i live there is barely a difference in the price of the unlocked and locked i5 . So I decided to just go for a setup that lets me overclock if needed at a later point in the future but I am not planning on going SLI.
Even if I stay with a flat monitor there are quite some price gaps.
For example the one I listed is 570€ and this one

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00RYZU2ZW

is 720€ where I live and there is no way of telling a difference, so maybe someone here can recommend other good, flat 3440x1440 monitors.
What do you think about the setup otherwise, is it okay?

On the Web dev topic:
First of I am not a professional Web Dev but I am striving to become one when I finished University.
Not sure if by "getting my foot off the ground" you mean finding a job or getting into web dev.
For the later I can recommend teamtreehouse.com(25$/month) or look into codeacademy which is free.
I can only recommend teamtreehouse, especially for a beginner.

The Asus PG348Q at $1500 new, or the Acer X34 at $1250 new are the only other monitors I know that fit the criteria.

  • IPS
  • 3440x1440
  • 34"
  • G-Sync
  • 100hz
  • Curved

The Acer XR341CK does not have G-Sync. It has Free Sync, meaning only AMD cards can use the sync feature. It has been seen for $599 refurbished however.

This LG 34UM88C-P at $800 new, does 75hz but without G-Sync or a curve.

The LG UC87C at $800, is the cheapest 60hz with a curve and without G-Sync

The absolute cheapest monitor with minimum specs is the AOC 3447PQU at $600, however quality control seems very iffy.

If you're a casual gamer I would reccomend a new LGUC87C. It's cheap at $750, has a gorgeous curve, gives up G-sync and high refresh rates, but costs almost half of what the Acer and Asus monitors that do have those features. If you enjoy games with lots of action then I would reccomend the LG 34UM88C. The 75hz will make a big difference in that use case.
u/markilleruk · 4 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

> $600

OK, lets review.

A baseline 32" 1440p 144Hz VA monitor is currently ~$350

A second baseline 34" 1440p 60Hz IPS monitor is currenty ~$500

Best guess a 29" 1440p 144hz IPS is gonna be at least $600

Gsync adds at least $300

HDR10 will likly add at least $300-$500 at 1440p ultrawide, and the only released HDR10 monitors are $2000 4K@144Hz g-sync displays.

HDR certification can be checked for here.

Best case scenario we are looking at $1200, 2x what you are hoping, and its much more lily that the first screens to match your specs will be $1500-$2000.

Sorry to burst your bubble.

Bottom monitor

Top monitor

Side monitor is a 24" HP I bought from WalMart.

Stand for the ultrawides is a this one and this one for the side monitor.

I ordered a new desk from Ikea early April but I only got it a week or so ago. It feels like ages but I'm just happy it's all here and it worked like I expected.

Other things:

  • Elgato Stream Deck
  • The Anchor under-desk headphone mount
  • Deathadder Chroma mouse
  • Blackwidow Chroma keyboard
  • Rode microphone stand
  • Blue Yeti Blackout microphone
  • Microsoft LifeCam Studio on the 34" - top right

My desktop is a prebuilt Dell with an i7-4790, but I added an SSD, swapped out the 1TB HDD for a 2TB when it crapped out, and added a GTX 1060.

I actually just changed my setup today, and I think I have exactly the pictures you need.

http://imgur.com/a/3KImg

Top is old, with a 1440p 27" monitor top. it was nice but a bit of a strain on my neck to look up and down that far (I have a sit/stand desk and i had to look down too far at my UW when sitting, and up too far at my 1440p when standing). I replaced it with the tiny 25" 2560x1080 UW and i like it a lot so far. It's easier to look up and down, and the side by side window split on the little one is a really good size. Plus I got it for $120.

My monitor stand

Another from same company that might work and is $20 cheaper

I have an aw3418dw and an older flat LG ultrawide on the stand below. A friend has the same Alienware and an x34. Works great, just tighten everything up well. I absolutely love the setup!

u/devisadev · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

For a 34" and a 28", it might just be safer to get two separate mounts/stands. Stability and weight support would be major concerns. If you're confident that you want a single mount, here's one to look at:

AmazonBasics Dual Monitor Mount - It's manufactured by Ergotron, a trusted name. There are reviews showing people using this stand with a 34" Ultrawide and a 24", so you might be able to stretch and replace that 24" with a 28"...your call. I reached out on r/monitors to see if anyone had any personal experience with this monitor (as I don't necessarily trust Amazon reviews) and received a response stating that it's a quality product.

Once again, personally, I'd go with two separate stands. Would end up costing around the same, allow for more customization, and be a bit more secure and reliable. But there are mounts that support the weight requirements for a 34" and a 28", so it's not impossible.

u/fidelisoris · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

Honestly I use a highly modified one of these: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B005C2914C

It's a sliding tube-in-a-tube, so the outer tube/mount got tossed and I fabricated a permanent one out of a floor flange and tapped galvanized 1" steel pipe from Lowe's. Prep and paint it powder black, looks fantastic and holds anything. Swapped all the hardware for stainless bolts and lock washers and keep them quite dialed down. It's discreet and does the job. I modified it because I needed 1.5 more inches of height travel than it gave me stock.

However I have another one of those that is using the clamp in my home office for another ultrawide...works fine. I usually position the monitors and leave them. I don't need the mount to be constantly moveable. If I did I'd probably check out something easier to adjust.

Both monitors are in the 15-20lb range and are 34" monitors. I feel confident I could mount a larger/heavier screen on my modified setup.

u/bluebirdhaze · 6 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

Its a mix of these two.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01BO42XK0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

and

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MIBN16O/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o03_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They both have the exact same pole diameters, so the arm for the UW fit over the standing desk mount.

The amazon basics is a really good arm. The other is great, just wish the clamp was as wide as the amazon arm (that I can't use for this combo) for extra support. No problems with the weight though.

u/LunarFlare445 · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Well, as far as I know, that particular LG model is the exact same as this other one that's $535 new on amazon: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B074JKT894/

The only difference is that the one your friend has is equipped with Thunderbolt connectivity. If you have a Macbook I suppose it would be helpful? But otherwise if you plan on only using it with your GTX1080 hackintosh, then it seems like a waste.

As for g-sync vs. freesync (the monitor I linked is 75hz with freesync) then I would say, it really just depends on if you have money to blow on g-sync. If gaming isn't a primary task of yours, I would say it's not something worth spending an extra $200-$500 on. But if you're in the position where $200-$500 ain't much, then I don't think you'd regret it either - g-sync is good stuff, or so I hear.

Personally, I have the monitor above. I'm currently working out some issues with DisplayPort on it/my graphics card, but beyond that, it's absolutely beautiful when it's working right.

u/Foamybrian · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

It was released recently and Acer has been awfully quiet regarding this monitor. Their official product page actually has the wrong resolution. I was worried about being an early adopter considering the reputation of the X34 predators and the ritual of monitor swapping until a good build is received. Luckily the first XR382CQK I got was near perfect. Great build quality, excellent screen with no issues and very minimal backlight bleed (only at the very corners).

u/cdurkinz · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Looks like I skimmed over a few things in your post, like budget and a couple questions.

So you could go with a 3440x1440, and maybe that's a better option because you can always upgrade your GPU later. The GTX 970 at 3440x1440 is probably going to only push 45-60 fps at most with settings lowered quite a bit in most newer games. At your price point something like this would be doable: LG 34"

If you can stretch your budget slightly more you could get a curved one: Dell 34"

Those are both pretty nice but I believe the most they can do is 60Hz, and neither have Gsync. Good luck man!

u/dak32 · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

I'd imagine he's probably using the Ergotech Freedom Arm or something like it. If you want one on top of the other, they're not so great at that. The support arm usually tends to be too short. Since I was using a freedom arm, I went ahead and added a single monitor mount to my setup.

I was a little lazy and didn't hide the ergotech arm, but I could if I so desired.

Hope that helps.

u/lupdelup · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

What did you end up going with? I'm Irish too and am in the same boat, aside from wanting a 3440x1440.

My options are:

- Samsung LS34j550w this is just a Samsung S34J550 as far as I can see. Seems to be pretty good value for money, but I'd rather a curved (€443)

- LG 34UC80 this looks great but I'm struggling to find an equivalent version (and price) in the EU ($550 before shipping and tax from the states)

- electriQ 35" this looks identical to the Massdrop Vast which people seem to like. If I can find it locally with a good return policy, I'll take the chance! (€405 on Laptops Direct)

Pretty much in the same place as you, so maybe you should not take this as a recommendation, but maybe helpful to compare notes.

I decided to try and stay under $1000 US for a 34/35" with free or g sync and 144Hz. That makes a short list. This one is at the top of my list and I might pull the trigger and order today.

I am also digging through reddit and the web for info I might have missed before placing the order.

u/im_eating_pizza_AMA · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Do you have a color calibration tool like a Spyder? If not, consider investing in a calibration tool, as that's the best way to get consistent and accurate colors. I'd also recommend using DisplayCAL over the Datacolor OEM software.

u/charlow · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Monitors like the X34 allow for overclocking very simply out of the box - just select a frequency in the monitor's on screen display.

The Philips does not do this. Might be possible with other software in Windows, but I wouldn't expect it to be likely to work.

Wikipedia notes a little computation for scanning frequency vs. refresh rate here in terms of CRTs - specifically talking about the calculation using the horizontal scanning frequency - sure it works a bit different now, but... I think it still applies?

Using the info from Philips' site, I get about 65Hz as the max possible, and having one at work, I know the display itself only identifies as being capable of 60Hz.

If I were you, I'd consider this LG monitor instead for 60Hz, or one of the Acer models for 75Hz or 100Hz.

u/Archerofyail · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Is the monitor being 29" super important to you? Because the Acer Predator Z35 matches these specs in all but size.

Ok after some research and actually using chat tech support I got two options. They confirmed the supported weights as well.

Option #1

VIVO Extra Tall Single Monitor Desk Mount Stand with 39 inch Stand-up Pole | Fully Adjustable Extended Arm Fits 1 Screen up to 27 inches (STAND-V011)

https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Stand-up-Adjustable-Extended-STAND-V011/dp/B01BO42XK0/ref=sr_1_2?keywords=STAND-V011&qid=1565027284&s=electronics&sr=1-2

Option #2

VIVO Premium Aluminum Single Screen Pneumatic Spring Monitor Arm, Desk Mount Stand with Extension Pole | Fits 1 Screen up to 32 inches (STAND-V101GT)

https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Aluminum-Pneumatic-Extension-STAND-V101GT/dp/B07L8PMBKY/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=STAND-V101GT&qid=1565026687&s=electronics&sr=1-1

My possible issues with both options. Option #1 gives me a stronger base that won't sag, but not sure if the monitors will line up properly without the second monitor setup. Option #2 gives me adjustable with a functioning arm, but not sure if the arm will get high enough.

Hopefully this will help people in the future in the future when stacking dual ultrawides.

As for my experience, ghosting is definitely more evident than the 2 QNIX panels above, but it doesn't affect gameplay or even movies to a really noticeable degree (at least for me).

Flickering is a noticeable problem in menu / load screens for pretty much every game. I've experienced it in everything from Witcher 3 to Golf With Your Friends...lol. But I've yet to experience it noticeably during gameplay, although that may be due to my GTX 1080 rarely ever dipping below that framerate threshold for the problem to manifest.

As for things like color banding, it's noticeable in the gray shades but doesn't really bother me.

Before it's asked, I have it mounted on an Ergotron LX:

Oh and the desk is custom built out of some plywood :)

Thanks for your answer! Although I'm wondering why ultrawides are so much more expensive that a regular 1080p monitor? I mean two 1080p can be about ~$300, but ultrawides seems to be more so expensive.

actually, this one seems to be pretty good: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01BV1XB2K/

although its not the resolution I'm looking for :(
Is there any down side to this one I linked?

This is the one I use. Works great. The angle I have the arm is putting some stress on the arm holding up the monitor. It's like trying to hold a dumbbell extended out to the side just above your shoulder. But it's holding thought. It the base was wider it would be perfect.

Well, I did a conversion from USD, and this one looks to be within your range: LG 34UM68-P. And I've previously owned that one myself before my very recent upgrade. My wife is now using it and it's pretty damn awesome to start off your ascension into Ultrawide.

u/bloxintrox · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Just noticed this comment, sorry I didn't respond sooner. I am currently using https://amzn.to/2XWPsnn . I don't recommend it though as the arm seem to support the weight fine. However the tilt portion on the end of the arm can't be tightened enough and the monitor wants to swing face down.

I was also looking at the artic z1 pro gen 3. Though I hear it has sagging problems too when extended. With the depth of my desk having the arm extended is a must. So I am currently looking for a better solution as well.

Ooh I can help!

I have an Acer X34a and bought one of these:

Ergotron LX Desk Mount LCD Arm https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/B00358RIRC/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_rkz9AbTZMK64J

I'd highly recommend it. It is around £110 but it is extremely well built, sturdy and offers a few mounting options.

It comes with a clamp to attach to a desk and can also be bolted into the desk. I ended up drilling a hole through my desk and bolting it in.

Here it is + mounting

u/neotekz · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

There's two that i use the amazon basics vesa mount for the ultrawide and this one for my two 27in.

You get what you pay for with vesa mounts. It depends what you need. if you dont need to move the monitor around often then a vesa plate that mounts to the wall is very affordable. Cheaper mount that you can move around like the second one i posted doesnt have tilt or rotate like the amazon basics mount.

u/MrWobblyHead · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

Don't know what your budget is but I came across this monitor when doing research for my own purchase:

AOC U3477PQU

It's had positive reviews from various sites. I'd order one myself if I had the space for a monitor that big.

UPDATE: Just looked at Amazon to check out the reviews and found the following information...

Question: Verified with acer - the xr382cqk resolution is actually 3840 x 1600 ?

Answer: The supported resolutions depending on connection are:
HDMI: 3840 x 1600 @75Hz

MHL: 1920 x 1080 @60Hz

I have tried using my AmazonBasics arm on CRG9; it don't work.

the weight limit is really close already and plus I add couple stuff on top of the monitor. So that might be the reason why or maybe I just lost the quality control lottery on the amazon basica arm. Too many factors

but either way officially CRG9 monitor IS over the weight limit amazon arm supports.

I got Loctek D7L for $130 from Amazon(https://www.amazon.com/Loctek-Monitor-Spring-Weighting-13-2-33/dp/B01BXP9LT6/ref=sr_1_3) which supports up to 33lbs. this one holds the CRG9 but I did have to tighten the 'increase tension' on one of the parts to make the monitor not keep sagging so on that one part there is no extra room to adjust; I had to tighten it all the way.

u/7rex · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

I was on a #budget, there is no movement ... they sit like this only.

don't do what I did. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01IWOCCOW/ for the top monitor, but it's not strong enough to hold it upright. It needs the support of the bottom monitor to sit correctly.

the bottom monitor is on the stock stand and it works well.

u/LaRock0wns · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Yes, you need to use the VESA mount that comes with the X34 to mount it to any VESA compatible mount/arm.

While I don't have that exact arm, I am using another arm from Ergotron - http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00358RIRC?psc=1&redirect=true&ref_=oh_aui_detailpage_o04_s00

It works great. No issues. I choose it because of the bigger base and I have it mounted on a glass desk.

Thanks so much for your help. I just spent a few hours scrubbing through a couple retailers & sites. You were absolutely right about the 27" displays (among other things), the 4k unit was only about 12% more in price. In the end I just ordered:
21:9 34" 1440 + 16:9 27" 2160
I also got a 21:9 29" 1080 to pair up with the Dell 23" that I have, for the wife's desk.

u/Pun_In_Ten_Did · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

No love for that 38" bad boy from Acer? -- runs at 75hz through Displayport (nice step up from your trusty Dell). Your Ti would easily drive it & the price is almost always under $1100 new.

u/NewToMech · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

How much you care about accurate color reproduction?

Like I said, if you don't care about gaming all the 3440x1440 might as well be the same monitor for you, outside of color calibration. So you're best off finding the one that currently has the lowest price (which changes because of sales)

I checked Amazon and if you don't mind refurb and a curved screen the cheapest listed is:

https://www.amazon.com/Acer-Widescreen-XR342CK-bmijpphz-Refurbished/dp/B06ZYMMX9J/ref=sr_1_3?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1523639544&sr=1-3&keywords=3440+1440

If you don't mind smaller brand and curved screens there's this:

https://www.amazon.com/GN34C-Monitor-Widescreen-Definition-DisplayPort/dp/B074G5G8FT/ref=sr_1_6?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1523639544&sr=1-6&keywords=3440+1440

And then the cheapest flat ultrawide they're selling from a larger brand is:

https://www.amazon.com/LG-34UM88C-P-34-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01CDYB5CW/ref=sr_1_8?s=pc&ie=UTF8&qid=1523639544&sr=1-8&keywords=3440+1440

I don't love curved monitors for productivity. I'm constantly aware of some minor distortion when doing anything except playing games.

And people who haven't had flat monitors side by side with curved will say you have to move your head less, but that's not really true. You're saving maybe an inch of width on each side of the average curved monitor.

But curved is in, so most options are curved.

VIVO Dual Freestanding LCD Monitor Desk Stand | Holds 2 Vertically Stacked Screens up to 27 inches (STAND-V002H) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B00MTWCO1U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_0DX0Db8FQR75K

u/1locke · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

The two monitors should be around the same width, so they'd line up nicely. Something like [this] (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MTWCO1U/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_c8yEybQ9ZEJ6P) should work to mount them. If you're not a fan of the large base, I just searched "dual monitor stand vertical" and there are options with desk clamp bases (which I would get if it were me). And I don't think there's a need to keep the ultrawide on its original base, and frankly think an arm or mount would look better, but in the end it's up to you.

u/lexacron · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

If you're happy with 60Hz, you can get 2 x 1440p 16:9 for the roughly the same price as a 1440p 21:9.

u/Rider2403 · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

i don't think there's any triple monitor mount that will support a UW and 2 aditional monitors on either side, i'd say get a stand alone arm for one 27" monitor and maybe the amazon basics double monitor arm https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00MIBN71I/ref=twister_B00VRLV1JK?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1

just check that your UW is not heavier than what the arm supports

u/BishopAkula · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Quick question: So this is a crappy 1360x768 tv I've been using for the past few months. It sucks. I am getting a new GPU soon, the Sapphire Nitro RX480 8gb OC+, and am gonna get a new monitor soon after. I was thinking of this: https://www.amazon.co.uk/LG-25UM58-P-25-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01BV1XB2K/ref=cm_cr_arp_d_pdt_img_top?ie=UTF8#Ask

Now, My question is the following; I have an i5-4460, I will have the RX 480 as stated above - Is this new monitor worth it? For gaming, YouTube, things like that. Never had an ultrawide before, and kinda nervous about the performance hits and compatability issues. Thanks in advance!

u/teh0wnah · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Using the Amazon Basics one with 2 arms. It's slightly expensive, but well worth every single penny.

u/anethma · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

The obvious answer is 3 of these: https://www.amazon.com/LX-Desk-Mount-LCD-Arm/dp/B00358RIRC/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1524021303&sr=8-2

Then you just position the monitors the way you like them.

You could even do 2 of them for the 16:9s and leave the 21:9 on its own stand. You would have to bolt the top arm mount to the wall.

I've never seen a prepositioned mount that allows you to position monitors in this way.

u/setzRFD · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

The Acer I had was this one. It was unusable, even just for Windows. I'd be playing a game and it's like vaseline is smeared on the screen, the ghosting was unreal.

I should try some older games. I only tried what I had installed. Granted all the games I mentioned (except Doom) are either new, performance demanding or CPU intensive.

u/Raptordog · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

Why not this: LG 34 Curved 1440p. Currently $549 on amazon new or $515 used like new which is not a bad deal. Good specs for what you seem to need.

u/Prizonte · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Maybe this one? The LG you listed is only FHD so pixel density won't be as good as the Samsung but this one is also WQHD. The LG's have IPS which would be better for photo editing, etc but the Samsung has a little higher refresh rate and freesync (75hz vs 60hz) but has VA panel. If you're not planning to VESA mount, the LG's also have more ergonomic stands. It depends on the distance you're going to be sitting from the monitor but I wouldn't recommend a flat ultrawide VA because of the color shift on the sides if you sit too close

Edit: Viotek for $399 (VA Panel)

u/buccanearsfan24 · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

Could possibly be it, it was one of the things I was reading about that could be the probable cause.

Is the one you provided a better cable?

u/Elpants · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Kinda, but I'd like the mounting arms to be able to adjust horizontally and control the tilt. Primarily be able to pull the monitors closer or push them back. Even with the single gas spring I'm using now for my UW, I never really adjust the vertical height.

Closest thing I've seen so far is getting this then buying an additional arm

u/Pomodragon · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

Oh my mistake, by 29 in i meant 2560x1080 resolution. Here are some 144hz 34in monitors. If you can find one, the Acer Z35 often has factory refurbished ones for 700, and is probably the best out there, up to 200hz overclockable. Same thing with the BenQ XR3501, they often retail around 700

I'd always go for a reliable brand from a reliable website. Anyhoo, let me take a look.

This is the M340CLZ 34 inches, curved, 3440x1440, 100Hz including FreeSync for $680. Weird thing is tho, the product dimensions which tell me it's 32 inches.

https://www.amazon.com/Microboard-M340CLZ-Curved-3440x1440-Monitor/dp/B01M5DVR94

The Viotek GN34C is 34 inches with a 3440x1440 display which is curved and has a refreshrate of 100Hz and a responsetime of 4ms. This monitor had all the details you want, in comparison to the Korean monitor. It's a VA panel for $530.

https://www.amazon.com/GN34C-Monitor-Widescreen-Definition-DisplayPort/dp/B074G5G8FT?th=1&psc=1

Look through the links yourself for any "catch" or anything that doesn't quite add up. Anyhow, I hope I got you on your way!

EDIT: The Viotek does have a really cheap backplate which very noticeably gives cracking noises when moving or adjusting the screen. This also happens when room temperatures go up and down. Meaning after gaming for a while and quitting afterwards to sleep, you'd hear it's backplate crack due to the change of temperature.

I'd probably go with the LG 34UM88C-P its just over $600 right now on Amazon so a good bit under your budget. Grab a display port cable while you're at it, IIRC it doesn't ship with one in the box.

Top end of your budget. If you want 1440, curved and 34"

Low end of the budget. 1080 but still 34" without curve

If you want pure Budget, https://www.amazon.com/LG-25UM58-P-25-Inch-21-UltraWide/dp/B01BV1XB2K

Its often 170$ or less.

I just got one for 165$

its 2560x1080 75hz overclockable, and it's 25inches.

Pure budget oriented ultrawide.

Ergotron LX, I believe they offer a grommet mount so you'd need a hole drilled in your desk, (your 2nd factor requirement). If the height isn't enough you can purchase an Extension Arm.

Hi I just AW3418DW on ebay, Would I need to buy anything additional along with "https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00MIBN71I/" to get it work? Going to buy it now after reading this thread and saw that it was on sale

You can run a dell u2715h side by side. Should have the same kind of vertical dimension as your Alienware.

I have one setup rocking the u3415w and u2715h with this dual monitor arm.

I would go for one of those if you can afford it.

There is also a Wall mount version of it.

The cheapest 1440p ultrawide at the moment is this which regularly dips below $500. You won't find anything brand new for less.

Would not buy an ultrawide used or refurbished: the warranty coverage is almost nonexistent. Even refurbished screens typically come with only a ~90 warranty from the manufacturer.

LG 34UC88-B

Price is all over the place, I paid less than $700 USD

u/rehpotsirhc123 · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

The 1080p 34" ones are around $350 and go on sale for $300 or less from time to time:

I was thinking about trying out the Loctek gas spring. They're about half the price of the Ergotrons and are rated all the way to 33 lbs.

This is what i plan to get for 49" samsung, talked to few people using it with it and they all said it's more sturdy then you would think and they expect to go for years. And they usually swing monitor left and right few meters.

u/legallegends · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

desk to center.

I ended up going with this more expensive Loctek

u/PittsburghStruK · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

I have it mounted on one of my desk's grommets. The new mount itself (Loctek) has a smaller footprint on my desk, compared to the standard mount that came from the manufacturer. Once I purchase a house for myself, I will have it mounted on the wall.

I have the Acer XR382CQK which is slightly larger both in size and resolution, but it's a bit sleeker looking than the PG348Q and X34. It's still an IPS monitor and runs natively at 75Hz. Another option in that size would be the LG 38UC99 which also has the look you're looking for too.

I got this: LG 34UC80-B 34-Inch 21:9 Curved UltraWide QHD IPS Monitor with USB Quick Charge https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074JKT894/

u/dylan522p · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

What does the HP have that makes it new? It seems like the HP has better Img quality, but lower referesh rate. The Acer is geared to gaming it seems

What's the difference between those and

u/Elementz_Reborn · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

The exact one I'm using isn't on Amazon anymore, but this is the closest thing.

Edit: I take that back; it's exactly what I use, but branded differently

u/FamedCaeser41 · 1 pointr/ultrawidemasterrace

idk about in CA, but the LG 34UC80-B is available in US for $550

u/natid9 · 2 pointsr/ultrawidemasterrace

I am eyeing this model too. The monitor itself is 19.9 lbs, 26.7 lbs with stand. The whole packaging is 43 lbs. Manual

I plan to buy this mount. It can hold up to 33lbs. But you may not like it due to the large legs https://www.amazon.com/VIVO-Monitor-Standing-Vertical-STAND-V002H/dp/B00MTWCO1U/
