You might want to study up on religious history. I grew up a Christian too, but in learning about old religions that predate Christianity, it widened my perspective.

Honestly my original dive into the occult had followed a deep fascination of quantum physics. In looking up these things online I kept stumbling on occult websites. I found it quite interesting that my interest in a field of science brought me to the occult. Science and religion have been blending and overlapping lately I’ve noticed. Quite different from when I was younger and everything seemed more black and white.

Growing up I had always heard things about how many Christian practices and views were just adopted from paganism but changed to fit their view. Well that’s not wrong but of course it’s much more complicated.

I have this book, The Secret Teachings of ALL AGES by Manly P. Hall and it dives into a lot about religions including the occult, Christianity, Judaism, etc. It’s a good soft way of learn about such a subject without compromising your beliefs. But like everything, beliefs are not set in stone. But you should only start where you feel more comfortable.

So there is no good data to support the hypothesis that EMFs are a potential mechanism for the physicality of entities....But one would think that would be easy to test....Right?????

And OK, I get the experiences and I don't doubt there are experiences. "There isn't even a paper anywhere that will outright state any of this as it's flatly a 'connect-the-dots' kind of thing that the few folks willing to dig into Mediaeval and Renaissance manuscripts to look at the documented experiences (journals were well kept on this subject by some of the finest minds of those times). " I would say people are trying to connect the dots.

You might find these interesting....A little more recent and I think you will find that there is good work going on and people are trying to connect the dots. Always good to keep up on the more recent literature.

https://www.academia.edu/27378215/A_CRITICAL_TEST_OF_THE_EMF-PARANORMAL_PHENOMENA_THEORY_EVIDENCE_FROM_A_HAUNTED_SITE_WITHOUT_ELECTRICITY-GENERATING_FIELDS

ABSTRACT. Previous research in electromagnetic and geomagnetic fields (EMF and GMF) and their relationship to paranormal phenomena has been performed under the theoretical assumptions of hallucination due to GMF fields. The current study tests the possibility that nonhallucinatory paranormal phenomena are also associated with EMF/GMF fields. EMF and GMF perturbations were examined in context of collected potential phenomena with data logging equipment at a haunted site with no electricity. Overall results indicate that EMF and GMF fields were significantly greater in both magnitude and variability inside-the-location compared to outside-the-location baseline measurements. Differences in GMF magnitude were small compared to EMF. Through correlation, EMF/GMF fields were demonstrated to change in range and location throughout the duration of the investigation. Results involving individual reviewed phenomena indicate that phenomena are strongly and significantly associated with serial EMF and GMF spikes, that both increases and decreases in EMF/GMF fields are not differentially predictive of phenomena, and that increases in the number (i.e., duration) of serial spikes do not differentially predict phenomena.

Manly P Hall is great! I've been working my way through his "The Secret Teachings of All Ages." Have you heard of that book? It's a mammoth of information! It was pretty reasonably priced as well. I think I got it on amazon for around $25.

If you want to give Sean O'Connell some love, check out his book. I really enjoyed it. Sort of an apocalypse/fantasy book involving angels and demons battling it out on earth.

After I got good feedback on my novel Finding Solace in You on Wattpad, I published it on Amazon. But I have to really work on my marketing and promotions skills. I know this book can do better but it just needs a proper audience.

It might be A Groom to Come Home To, by Irene Brand. His name appears to be Clark Randolph, though.

>Beth Warner returns to Harlan County to the only man she's ever loved. Now, she is faced with the same dilemma that tore her apart as a teenager. As she struggles to understand heaven's plan in bringing her home again, she prays it's not to late for a future with Clark.

u/thousande · 2 pointsr/bestof

Yes, you are right, the goals of the white magician and black magician is different.

I am no expert either, but see btvsrcks answer.

The thing is that in modern times we mostly get our information from popular culture (Hollywood, video games, conspiracy documentaries etc.) which portrays magic at a very superficial level with all its fire, wind, woooshes and splashes. Most magic is practical (eg. meditation, prayer etc.) than it has to do with believing in something "out there".

An interesting take on this topic is The Secret Teachings of All Ages by Manly P Hall

When he's not doing that, he's also a novelist, so not your typical UFC fighter.

Kind of a creepy synch today. I was in a used bookstore and found this today: https://www.amazon.com/How-Soon-Serpent-Without-Dawn/dp/1577480384/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1520901668&sr=8-1&keywords=without+the+dawn+serpent&dpID=31SH9084HAL&preST=_BO1,204,203,200_QL40_&dpSrc=srch No patch, and it references the serpent and such. I didn't look into the book, just saw the cover, but still...

I find some irony in this response as I am currently reading this:

Loose interpretation on reading, I pick it up every time I have a little down time which right now is NONE AT ALL

I had no idea O'Connell was an author. Just visited his Twitter, apparently he wrote this.

u/kaptain_carbon · 3 pointsr/Metal

Here are some books that I found might be interesting.

The Occult Roots of Nazism: Secret Aryan Cults and Their Influence on Nazi Ideology

Sex and Rockets: The Occult World of Jack Parsons -- Rocket scientist by day; sex magician by night. Also blew himself up accidentally.

Secret Teachings of All Ages -- This is the book I am getting soon and this edition as it has most of the illustrations. This is a survey on a bunch of different topics.

My amazon wishlist is a fucking mess now...

I thought you were lying, but you're not. Decent reviews too.
