Creative Labs. They pretty much set the standard for PC audio back in the 90s.

Those look like the EP-630, a very common $20 headphone you can find practically anywhere.

These are ridiculously good for the price. I've had them 4 years, generally not treated them well, and they look as good as the day I got them. They were $30 when I bought them. As an added bonus, using the right sized rubber attachment thing means you can use them on the lowest volume setting in any environment and still hear perfectly.

>I notice a huge difference wearing a cheap set of ear candy earbuds vs. regular headphones because they have a cushion that conforms to my ear canal

Skullcandy didn't invent the ear-canal type earphones. There are tons of those phones with better sound quality. I can think of a few good, cheaply-priced ones (they are sorted here from least to most expensive):

  • JVC HA-FX33 or HA-FX34: These are pretty cheap, and have good sound.
  • JVC HA-FX66
  • Sennheiser CX300 or Creative EP-630: These two are basically the same earphone, but with different brands.
  • Skullcandy Titan or FMJ: the only decent pair of Skullcandy earphones, but they'll run you for about $40-60.

Although, really, I'd recommend you spend some more money on higher-quality stuff. Unlike what most people think, the sound quality of good in-ear canal phones can approach or even surpass that of full-sized headphones. Here are a few brands that are higher-up, in no particular order:

Shure, Etymotic, Sennheiser's IE series, Ultimate Ears SuperFi and TripleFi series, Sleek Audio, Audio-Technica, Klipsch (except the S2).

I've tried close to 20 pairs of earbuds and haven't found any that can beat these.

They stay put when running or lifting, they're super comfortable, they sound great, and the pair I have now has lasted 3 years so far and still going strong.

I don't know if earphones would work for you, but I'm a big fan of these.

Not exactly audiophile class, but works for me. Pretty durable too.

Creative Ep-630s are fantastic. Same drivers as the Sennheiser CX-300s but rebranded and different cable. I bought 3 because I always lose and break them but for ~20$ CAD they're a steal. I bought my first pair at 40$ and thought they were amazing for the price.

15 USD are you kidding me. jealous

I use these exact ones:

They are comfy and I've been using mine almost daily for over a year now with no signs of wear.

u/checkmeoutnow · 2 pointsr/headphones

The monoprice headphones sound really, really good for the money, although many people have had problems with the fit and I don't think they're very comfortable. The cabling isn't the best either, but for $7 + shipping you can't expect much.

Here's a recent article that says they offer new styles and sizes now.

Obligatory: Head-fi review of 248 IEMs - Reviewed in tiers (by price) - very much worth checking out.

I don't have any really high end IEMs but my personal favorite of those I own are an older version of these Creative EP-630 IEMs. They're extremely comfortable, easy to seat firmly, cheap ($15.92 USD in the Amazon link) and have stood up pretty well to the test of time. I use them while mowing and they do a pretty good job at blocking noise.

Creative EP-630 They look and feel cheap, but sound great for the price point and the bass doesn't disappoint. They're pretty durable as well, just not something you want to wear while exercising, as it'll transmit a lot of the sound as it hits you when running.

u/villa_straylight · 1 pointr/AskReddit

Creative EP-630s are the best I've ever used. I have a pair I've used at work daily for over a year now and they still work great. They come with 3 different sizes of tips so you can get a proper fit in your ear. They do a pretty good job of blocking out external noise and the sound is pretty solid.

By way of comparison, I've used the ones that come with iPods and they are horrible in comparison to the Creative ones.

These Creative In-Ears are cheap, sound very good (not only for that price) and if you simply tape the aux thingy (sorry English is not my first language) right from the beginning they will last you forever.
I've been using them for more than 4 years and only had to rebuy them twice.

Morthy's:
most oh god, I would never be seen with this in public - books list

most phallic SFW (but it's way too expensive)

Akeleie's:

most geeky I guess?

item which would most help you achieve a goal (want to start running, but I can't do it without music...I've tried) - default list

Best item to bring on a deserted island, assuming the island has a cd player - cds list

Thanks for the awesome contest!

I had two skullcandy helmets, they broke before on year of use. Same happened to my exgirlfriend. I had the EP-630 (price range 20-29) for a few years, sound was good and the price is good too.

edit: Wow, sorry for the long post.

Hey /r/headphones! I'm in the IEM market, here goes:

Budget $125-150 USD. Maybe a bit flexible but I don't want to go too much higher. Amazon sellers only I'm using an Amazon gift card so this is an inflexible requirement.

Source Cowon Z2 and occasionally a Sansa Clip
Requirements for Isolation Ees good, man. I'll be using these while mowing and snowblowing so isolation is important.
Preferred Type of Headphone IEMs only
Preferred tonal balance Hmm, I'm kind of open about this, but also kind of want to get away from a perfectly flat response (see the D2000 note below). See also the Preferred Music section; much of what I listen to is bass-y. Never, ever anything that sounds muddy.

Past headphones & thoughts
Denon D1000 - very clear but not enough bass.
Denon D2000 - still love 'em and use them at work almost daily, but they really do have a flat response, and I'd maybe like to try something with more of a personality
Koss Portapro - I use these at work when I don't want to bother setting up the headphone amp - they're okay but the IEMs may replace these
Monoprice 8320 IEM - Sound great but they're extremely uncomfortable
Creative EP-630 IEMs - I got these for $35 several years back and they have simply been indispensable. edit: I went through my Amazon purchase history and they are EP-630 IEMs. For their current $19 price I wouldn't hesitate recommending these to anyone on a budget. Their flaw is that they don't handle a ton of bass and (of course) must be seated properly. I can't say enough about how happy I've been with these. edit: Bought 'em in 2008 and they're still going strong.
Some other odds and ends that I can't think of off the top of my head

Preferred Music

Ghost - Infestissumam - Seriously, listen to this with a Bose system or something that doesn't handle mid-bass (I guess) very well and it sounds terrible. Put that through my D2000s and it sounds just fine, even with bass boost.

Dethklok - Dethalbum III - This is currently all I listen to. It's a bit bassy but sounds pretty good on anything I've listened to it on (truck's default sound system, cheap Logitech PC speakers, D2000s etc.) The production on this album is quality.

Portishead - Dummy If the IEMs can handle Mysterons they should be able to handle just about anything else I throw at them.

Breeders - Pod This is a contrast to the others--it can get bassy but I think this is one of the few albums I own that isn't involved in the loudness war. Maybe, I'm not sure. It's notably quieter than any other album I currently listen to.

After reading through the head-fi IEM reviews several times, the VSonic GR07 Bass Edition and VC1000s seem like a good option. One Amazon seller has the GR07s for $129 which I'm a bit suspicious of since $159 seems to be the going price, but the reviews are almost all positive so--I guess?

I think they're called creative EP-630 or something very close to it (i.e. the number might be slightly different).

The Creative EP-630 have been a longstanding favorite of mine. Durable, cheap, and sounds decent.
