I use Dewalt tools pretty exclusively in my business. My go to all purpose drill is the 18v XRP Hammerdrill/Drill/Driver. It has a larger chuck so he can fit larger bits in it, and definitely has the power to get through whatever he needs. It also has the hammerdrill function so that if he needs to drill into concrete/stone/whatever, he has it available. I have several of this exact model, and multiple other sizes (9v,12v,14.4,20v) of Dewalt drills and never have a problem (other than employees damaging them by dropping off of ladders and such). I HAVE experience the problems with Craftsman (not built well) and have burned out Milwaukee and Rigid drills. After a couple years of daily use, the batteries will start to degrade, but the newer Lithium Ion batteries seem much better at this. You can get a wide variety of tools that take the same battery like circular saws, sawzalls, nailers, vacuums, lights, cut out tools, etc.

I'd stop by your local Home Depot/Lowe's/whatever and do a "feel" test. I just think they are built sturdier and balanced better than most.
