Just in case there's trouble I have one of these stashed away in my truck. Haven't met a beef jerky package it can't handle.
Seriously, I work around a lot of guys who are die hard concealed carry something (gun or knife) all the time. Besides the mandatory firearms concealed carry classes none of them have any training or even get much range time. Many of them are nearly oblivious to what's going on around them anyway. Those are the ones I worry about, they're the real life equivalent of looting weapons off an enemy corpse in a video game.
My brother in law is a police officer, he'll tell you flat out knives are the worst thing to carry for self defense. You're going to get cut too, and probably very badly. It's never one clean thrust and the guy falls over. It's a fumbled stab to the love handle and now you're facing an injured, pissed off guy who's full of even more adrenaline with a slippery pocket knife and no training.
Ask my Bro what the best self defense tool you can have is and he'll tell you flat out, situational awareness and a good 1/4 mile run time.

I got this for being a best man, and it's great for camping/hiking/etc. Something in the same vein could be good, and it's manly.
