I used to have the client's provide the hard drive, but I started to feel that wasn't very professional so I started providing it now and just upped my total price. If it's only 128gb then I buy this for $20 and the 256gb are about $40. Since the usb is really small I attach this wooden piece to it with a nice knot. Then you could deliver it in a box like this. The boxes I use say "Our Wedding" on them and have little white paper shreds holding the usb up. I then put some business cards beneath the box and tie a ribbon around the whole thing.

What USB stick is the community buying for dash cam (specifically Model 3)? What feature is most important?

If your computer has a tiny slot, then you can put a microSD card in there. You can get a card like this for around $20 at Best Buy and other tech stores. You can move your files into the microSD as opposed to on your main drive, saving space.

If your computer has a larger slot about the size of your thumb, you can get an SD card. Some microSD cards have SD card adapters, which you can tell by the packaging. If you use Amazon, this $20 128 gigabyte card from Samsung and this $10 64 gigabyte card from Silicon Power would both do the trick. If none such a port exists, I recommend this $18 128 gigabyte flash drive from SanDisk.

Also, if you could tell me the model number (usually located on the back of the computer labeled under "model", or in Control Panel along with RAM), then I'd be able to help you more.

Been using it for about 9 months with no issues. I had read that USB can get hot, but assumed the recommended ones were tested to survive that heat. I did notice when I first removed it from the Shield that is was pretty hot.

A $25 flash stick will hold that.

Will this remove the gaps entirely or just reduce them? If it just reduces the gaps, how small are they?

I went to the track and wanted to add my dashcam footage into my recorded video, but I have ~1.5 second gaps in between the 60 second videos which will make syncing up the videos and the data a nightmare, I'm really looking for zero gap time.

Edit: This is what I have currently: https://smile.amazon.com/gp/product/B015CH1PJU (25-30 MB/s write speeds)

in that case maybe try installing it to high capacity jump drives. They are cheaper than doing it from hard drives and are gunna be faster/more durable as well as more portable since youre using them with your laptop and linux is super easy to install to a usb

Since youre just playing around with linux and not using it as a daily driver you probably wont need more than 128 gb

If you have a usb 3 port i'd definately go with a usb 3 drive either way you should be getting same/better results using the jumpdrive compared to a external hdd/ssd

I switched to these. Little bit slower writes than the PNY, but VASTLY more reliable.

I'm in Canada so everything is more expensive to start with but it's this one here:

SanDisk Ultra Flair USB 3.0 128GB Flash Drive High Performance up to 150MB/s (SDCZ73-128G-G46) https://www.amazon.ca/dp/B015CH1PJU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_Ky6SBbSRKZ9WG

The 32GB one is a bit cheaper now but it was $25 when I was looking at it vs $39 for the 128GB.

So first of all, not all USB 3.0 sticks actually run at 3.0 speeds. There are many variants out there that will run at standard or even low end usb 2.0 speeds but will be "USB 3.0" because they are compatible. Look for reviews for the sticks and tested speeds (not just what the manufacturer lists). Anything above 150 MB/s should be fine as its pretty much only going to affect loading times.

I just did a quick search for a drive and something like this should work really well. I'm not a fan of the micro USB sticks for constant read/writes, I've not had much luck with them on my NAS/Firewalls/ESXI boxes as OS disks.
