One of the best books I have ever read is True Love by Thich Nhat Hanh.
Everyone who wants to love another person should read it.
Perhaps read the first few pages of Thich Nhat Hanh's "True Love"? http://www.amazon.com/dp/1590304047
If you're looking for shen work, I would try to look at daoist or buddhist meditation manuals. It's highly probable there's not enough writing about it because without an experienced teacher/mentor you will probably go off track. . .

I'll check them out, let's see how that goes... Thanks for the links, even though the second one doesn't work I managed to find it: if anyone else is reading and is interested it can be found here.
I highly recommend you read this book
