[2016 Newly Updated USB Gaming Headset] SADES A60/OMG Computer Over Ear Stereo Heaphones With Microphone Noise Isolating Volume Control LED Light (Black+White) For PC & MAC https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A73ZIL0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_IwRvyb22VY505

Really cumfy and great build quality. Comes with a braided cord too.

The mic and sound quality is not the best, but what do you expect for $30? Great budget headet if you are not a audio enthusiast and just need something to talk with your friends with.

Edif: even comes with harry potter font

these have been surprisingly good to me for like a year now. very comfortable, great sound, mic quality is fine, no issues.

This is my opinion but what headphones you use are entirely opinion based me personally I use the [Sades A60's] (https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B01A73ZIL0/ref=ya_st_dp_summary) but I mean you have to judge for yourself I recommend them

Mine apparently were not from the Sades shop:

The software I downloaded from the Sades website wouldn't even recognize them. Also the serial number wouldn't look up on Sades website.

Pretty bad, I know these

I've been using this headset for almost a year, and no issues. I managed to convince 3 of my friends to use them. Very comfortable, good sound quality, and just around your price range.

I could recommend this: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01A73ZIL0/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o07_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
I prefer it over the Logitch G633 Artemis headset and it's only $30. Surely there are better options but for half of your budget you could get this and save the rest for a decent set of headphones and a mic when you get more money.

The [Sades A60] (https://www.amazon.com/Headset-SADES-OMG-Heaphones-Microphone-Isolating/dp/B01A73ZIL0/ref=sr_1_3?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1502903192&sr=1-3-spons&keywords=sades+a60&psc=1) are super nice for the price, good sound & exceptional mic quality for the price. I've had them for about a year and they still work great!

I move my head around a lot when I talk so I tried this with two different headphone/mic combos that are on the cheaper side. The first one I got was super quiet picking up my voice and I had to really amplify it in post and then wipe put a lot of "background" noise that doesnt exist with "regular" mics. I sent that one back and got another, this one picks up my voice quite well, but it also picks up a lot more breaths and mouth noises since it is much closer to my mouth/nose than a regular mic with a stand would be. I still use this one sometimes if I'm travelling and have to record because it's easier to throw in my back pack then everything I need for my normal set up. It takes a bit more extra editing, but I usually just include a disclaimer at the beginning of the episode to expect a little worse quality because of the travel mic. I dont have enough listeners that they would actually care either way, and I'm probably more bothered by it while editing than any actual listener is listening. There are more expensive ones out there that may do a better job, but I'm thinking with anything that close to your mouth/nose you're going to end up with the same issues regardless of how much you spend on it.

Tl:dr it's definitely possible, it may just create extra headaches during editing that you dont want to deal with

Links to the mics I tried:

First one (too quiet): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A73ZIL0/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_JVJWDbC0HBWAM

Second one (good sound but picks up breathing/mouth noises) (also not actually a gaming headset but the same general idea): https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01MYYW3UA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_BWJWDbAT0D7KF

I just got a Sennheiser RS 175, and so far I've been appalled at how awful the build quality is. What really bothers me is the ear pads though: they feel super flimsy and cheap. A low-end headset I had before this has way better ear pads. I looked at third-party pads, but there isn't a huge selection, and they're all duplicates of the originals. There's the velvet option, which I hear are more comfortable, but I don't want to sacrifice noise isolation (used in an office setting).

Any suggestions for what I can do?

Cheap Asian Headphones

I always shop for these because I'm not made out of money, and am often surprised by the quality I get from them. These headphones have pretty great surround and the sound quality is top of the line (for me, because I've never used actual top of the line sound quality). Only problem is that they're really big.

got them for 30$ on sale, not the 80$ asking price

Two things I commonly hear from people when I ask them (politely) to get on voice chat:

1) I don't own a microphone!

You're playing a $60 game, in "competitive" mode, but you're unwilling to spend a few bucks more to play it effectively? The best-selling headset on Amazon is $30., and there are other options for half that. I got mine for a steal on meh or woot (I forget which one), so check the discount/daily-deal sites. A headset is essential for comp play, period. It's nice to have in QP, but I'm willing to excuse pretty much any behavior there as long as you make an effort to win the game and don't act like a dick.

2) My roommate/wife/kids/etc will hear me!

If you're in a dorm and your roommate is sleeping or studying, then good on you for not disturbing him or her. Aside from that - with a halfway decent mic, you shouldn't have to talk very loudly at all for the mic to pick up your voice. On PC, you can also turn up the gain/boost on your microphone to make it more sensitive. My kid's bedroom is directly above my home office where my gaming PC is, and I never worry that he can hear me because I keep my voice down.
