Top Reddit comments about Rod & Reel Combos:

I have one of these spinners that I found really effective for trout in alpine lakes. The weight of the kit is around 1 lb due to the reel though.

Otherwise, as others said - Tenkara is really light and great for small mountain rivers/streams. If you want to go really overboard, this rod weighs 1.1 oz ...

One of these and these make a great gift for a cat.

Thank you all again. I bought a bunch, including the Zebco Dock Demon for my boy, and the Sougayilang telescoping for me.

I wasn't thinking how long 8.86 feet was lol. Will this be fine, or should I exchange for a smaller, like the 7.87 or 6.89?

It's telescoping so it is quite compact and feels very sturdy.

This rod works well for me, and closes up real nice. It's a cheap ultralight, and I paired it with a Shimano Sierra.

Yeah, there's no bottom so you can drill holes while inside, there are also little windows so you can watch for lines outside. Tip ups are used out side, when a fish grabs the bate the flag goes up and you can go grab the line and pull the fish in.

Usually we'll drill two holes inside the shack, one for a camera and one to fish out of, then the rest of the lines will be outside. However on cold days will shift more lines inside.

A lot of people have suggested this, do you think this cheaper one would be better for my younger brother? Or is it not for the same purpose?
