I have a suggestion, not sure how you’ll like it.

TL; DR Pentel Energel Style. It’s a twist action metal pen, but the satisfying feeling it provides and wide range of refill compatibility make it a worthwhile purchase for around $15.

I am a long-time user of Pilot g2 and Signo 207/307 refills in 0.5. They are great, and easily/cheaply acquired when lost. I also had the issue of pen bodies breaking. (Strong grip, maybe I needed a pencil case too?

Anyway, I went a slightly different route. Pentel makes their Energel refills (gel) in a needle-style form, which is comparable in size with Pilot g2 and signo refills. (These refills are super cheap, like 10 bucks for a pack of 12. I buy them often, due to constant sales and deals.)

Here’s a link to the refills: Pentel Refill for Energel (0.5mm black, needle tip)

My favorite pen body is actually the one that the Pentel refills came with, the Pentel Energel Style. Despite the funny name, it’s a metal pen with a satisfying retraction, and can fit g2, signo, Energel, Jetstream, and more types of refills.

Here’s a link to the pen. Pentel Energel Style Pen (0.7mm), black barrel

*this pen comes with a 0.7mm refill, but it would fit any refill similar to the signo and G2.

I much prefer this body to that of the signo or Pilot. It’s powder-coated metal, giving the pen a balanced and weighty feeling.

Hope this helps!

My husband and I use a combination of Trello and paper notebooks. He uses Trello mainly while I only use it for household items. I prefer the joy of writing with pens on paper. (I have really nice pens and notebooks that I love.)

I tried to get into bullet journaling but what ended up happening was that I just made a do-it-yourself planner, but that keeps me engaged enough to do it most weeks and follow it. I've been ridiculously successful with it the last month or so, getting tons of work done on good days and even a little bit of work done on not-so-great days.

I used to be very adverse to lists. I never understood the point. Why would I go through all the trouble of making a list if I was just going to forget to look at it? How could people manage a daily planner? But then I started carrying a notebook around with me everywhere. I had a backpack anyway, I might as well put something in it! So about a year ago I started carrying one. Drs? Notebook. Library? Notebook. Church? Notebook. My whole life is spread across a few of them, sure. And I now have a stupid assortment of pens from trying all the latest and greatest styles available, also sure. But I'm getting stuff done, and remembering important events. I don't look at it every day, but I'm like "oh yeah, on Monday I wanted to do the laundry today!" so I do the laundry. A tool is only as helpful as you make it, and I think I'm finally getting the point.

u/darksier · 5 pointsr/rpg

I have 3 players who take meticulous notes. They just used the simple notebooks...oh one does use a cool Moleskine notebook just like his GM!

And we all share the same sorta note taking techniques...which is...there is no order other than Left to Right, page after page. But here's something that's common and useful across all our hand written notes.

Use ALL CAPS for your titles and headers - it's just easier to see when you are flipping. Put a title on your page right at the center top. And Draw pictures! Something that I've realized with handwritten notes rather than digital notes (I also use OneNote for game prep) is that when I or my players flip through our notebooks, we KNOW where things are. Your brain makes connections to your handwritten notes. The words, the doodles, the scratchwork, even the tactile feel of the pages all work together to keep you organized with your notebook.

So go get yourself a nice notebook. My favorite are these Moleskines. Very heavy lineless paper. My friend uses an Insight notebook and it's pretty sweet too. And don't neglect your pens! The sweetest notebook cries loudest when paired with a cheap bic. New favorite lineup of pens is uniball vision elite. Used to be the pilot precise, but I've had bad luck my last two batches. Tried out these uniballs and I like how they feel a bit more.

Short version: Best organization for a notebook is left to right, all caps titles, and lots of drawings. Don't skimp out on the pens.

To start off, check out the Uniball Jetstream Premier or the UniballJetstream Alpha.

I recommend this because of numerous reviews that support the Jetstream as one of the smoothest/best writing pens available. The ink dries almost immediately and the ink soaks into the page (Uniball says that this is good for signing important documents and avoids forgery), but the ink doesn't leak through. I think these are definitely worth checking out, I have the cheaper plastic cap version and it writes well.

If you prefer a different aesthetic but want that Jetstream ink, you will have to look into whether certain pens accept certain ink cartridges.

Edit: I'll also add the Parker Jotter as well. It's /r/pens approved and it looks more professional than the Jetstreams.

u/wentzelg · 1 pointr/pens

I have some of those myself and I agree they are really nice. I was lucky to have my work put me up for a meeting at the RC and well lets just say I kept "losing" the pens each day, so I am good for a while. :)

Personally I hate the cross refill though. Some pens I have that are close would be:

https://www.amazon.com/Pentel-EnerGel-Style-Medium-Barrel/dp/B0776M8VY1

not quite as thin but a nice feel and comes in black. Gel is a bonus for me.

https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B07K7YJFZK/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_search_asin_title?ie=UTF8&th=1

again not quite as thin but it is a jet stream refill so it is super smooth and not gel if you don't like that.

I think either is a really close runner up to the RC ones and in my mind better because they aren't cross refills.

u/gltw · 1 pointr/pens

I would go with the Cross. I had one for a long time, and I really enjoyed it. It wrote very smoothly. I've moved on to fountain pens now, but if I ever go back to roller ball, Cross is definitely my favorite.

While I enjoy a luxury pen, my preference for rapid note taking is the Pentel Energel. It rivals my fountain pens in smoothness, and just glides over the page. Honestly, I would say that it is smoother than some of the Cross pens I have used. The only drawback is that these go through ink pretty quickly; I used one about every 2 weeks in college.

u/wishful_cynic · 5 pointsr/funny

I love my pen. Writing instruments are something I use every day for work. There are disposable pens with decent ink cartridges available like the G2 you referenced, but no disposable pen can match the feel of a heavier, high-quality pen.

EDIT I now use an amazing pen I received as a gift and would never be able to justify its cost if I purchased it on my own, but I highly recommend starting with one of these. I used the Tornado for several years. They are fantastic pens. I linked to the color scheme of my first Tornado, but check out the wide range of other cool schemes!

u/wtfie · 1 pointr/adhdwomen

I use a Passion Planner and do some bujoing stuff in it, I absolutely love it. You can download the pages for free to try them out, and they frequently have sales for the email list. If you Google it there's lots of creative ways to use it. I get a lot of benefit from the monthly reflection.

I also absolutely love the Pilot Frixion line of pens and highlighters, they're ERASABLE because my schedule changes a lot too! I like this fine point size and colors

u/KTR2 · 1 pointr/pens

Get this:

Rollerballs are great all-around pens, but they're pretty much just a pretty case for the replaceable cartridge. I used to sell all the fancy expensive pens (Mont Blanc, S.T. Dupont, Aurora, etc.), and the Parker cartridges are of the same quality. As far as looks go, it's not prepossessing but still classy...and doesn't look like something an 8-year-old would be carrying around. It's a pen you could comfortably use to sign an important contract, yet still feel fine jotting down a grocery list.

About 10 years ago my EDC was a $130 Cross. After I lost it, I replaced it with this and it served me well for the 5+ years I carried it...until I lost it as well. I don't EDC pens anymore, but if I did, it'd be that pen.

Here are the replacement cartridges for when you run out of ink:

http://www.amazon.com/Parker-Refills-Rollerball-Medium-Point/dp/B00006IE9S/ref=pd_sim_op_1

If you're looking to get into fountain pens though, you should check out Waterman. They're decent and you should be able to find something around your price.

___

EDIT: one of the comments on there indicates that they've since modified the design and it is of slightly lower quality than the version I had. This is unfortunate as it was a GREAT pen, comparable to pens 10x more expensive. Based on the other comments there, it does still appear to be an exceptional value, so I'll still stand by my recommendation.

u/TheHipsterOwl · 3 pointsr/bulletjournal

Well I love Papermate pens and use flair (felt-tipped) personally, which DO show through. But I also use their gel-pens, and I love them. I don't know how they hold up on moleskin pages, but these pens are amazing: Papermate Inkjoy. They're not nearly as classy as some of the pens other bullet journalists like to use, but they fit my price point and they write really well.

u/girlfran69 · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon

Yay! Congrats on the new job! I think you will like these from my wishlists. (they're from Amazon.ca but can be easily found on Amazon.com)

I have these cool pens that erase with friction, from Japan: Pilot Frixion

I also really love this lip balm/lip primer, coincidentally, also from Japan. It's very nourishing! DHC Lip Cream

u/iconoclastic_magpie · 4 pointsr/pens

I've spent a lot of time on JetPens learning about the different brands.

My personal favorites:
As far as fountain pens, I like the Pilot Kakuno. I like the design, they write nicely, and are pretty cheap.

Muji Gel Ink Ballpoint pens

Pilot Hi-Tec-C Maica

Pilot Juice

Unibal Signo UM-151

If you have are interested in erasable pens (highlighters, markers), I recommend Pilot Frixion. There are a ton of options.

From left to right

Cevinee Classic - bought more for the looks than anything else.

Grifiti Dootle - came with a fantastic mechanical pencil as well.

Big I Design Ti-Arto - I prefer retractable pens, but I couldn't pass up a pen that will work with pretty much all of the refills I have... and I have a lot of them. Great piece of gear.

Big I Design - Ti-click Classic - I just got this pen. It's a companion for my (not pictured) Click Pro.

Lamy Tipo - My first (and so far only) Lamy pen, it's not my favorite. Nice gimmicky pen, but I barely use it.

Wolfram Bolt Action - One of my kickstarter finds, this is a solid freaking pen. Tungsten is a heavy metal. You could probably bludgeon someone with this thing. It didn't come with a clip and it came with a sub-par spring, so it kind of sat in my collection for a few weeks. However, once I slapped a Fisher Space Pen clip on it and swapped the spring for a longer, stronger one this became a formidable entry into my EDC.

Karas Kustoms Render K - Got this on a Massdrop. I can appreciate the workmanship, but I can't jive with a cap that can't be screwed or otherwise attached to the back of the pen. That's how I lose them.

Pilot Axiom - My new favorite pen. It only takes the Dr. Grip Center of Gravity ink. Not a bad refill, but it doesn't leave any room for alternatives.

Cross Tech 2 - I would use this a helluvalot more if it weren't a twist pen.

Cross Click Classic - I would use this one a helluvalot more if it weren't so dang skinny.

u/cuntosaurus_rex · 2 pointsr/travel

I've been to Berlin, Amsterdam, Paris, Interlaken, Florence, Rome and just outside of Milan in Lake Como/Menaggio out of those that you just listed.

Don't spend too much time in Milan. The Duomo is spectacular, but unless you're into fashion like me, there's not much else worth seeing under time constraints. Also, when you say Interlaken, I hope you are including Gimmelwald! It's only a 45 minute cheap train/cable car ride away. Trust me, you will thank me after your trip I garantee it ;)!

I would suggest that you go to Cinque Terre also before heading to Florence (about 1.5 hour train ride) and do the full hike.

Now for the Eurail pass. Every time you want to take the train using your pass, you have to get a ticket printed by the cashiere at the ticket desk. After that, you board the train and at some point during the ride, a man will be walking around stamping your ticket. At first, I was giving the guy my ticket with my Eurail pass at the same time, so he would stamp both. However, I started giving them my ticket only without my pass and they would (90% of the time), only stamp my ticket without asking to see/stamp my pass. I guess they don't always check to see whether the ticket was acquired using the pass and probably focus more on checking the date and time. Once I'd get off the train, I'd erase my entry using this exact pen (I paid 4-5$ max for it, not 24$ like Amazon suggests!). I tried many pens prior, and this was the only one that completely erased from the Eurail pass.

Now, it's up to you to chose how many travel days you would like to have on your pass. I traveled Europe in the summer of 2010, and if I remember correctly, I bought the pass with 7 days of travel, when I actually needed 10 in my initial itinerary just in case. I ended up using it for about 14 voyages. It's a risk to take, and I wouldn't want to influence your decision. Remember that if you get caught, you will probably lose your pass altogether.

Hey Guys want a FP recommendations:

Left Handed/Hand Dragger

Occupation Pharmacist: Quick Notes, Verbal Scripts, fast fluid motions, etc

Current Pen: Precise V7

What I want in the new pen (i.e. what I like about my current pen), The liquid Ink Free flowing style/feel, Solid lines without break or thinning, deep color saturation.

Being a lefty, short burst writing, free flow writing style... Would you reccomend a FP in the first place? and if so... Which do you think would be a good fit based on what I like about my V7s?

Price range = sub $50

u/elephantballerina · 2 pointsr/southpaws

Pentel EnerGel 0.7 mm are awesome. I've been using them forever -- they even say on the packaging that they're great for lefties because they dry SO FAST. After years of smudged papers and ink on my hand, these were a godsend.

u/LizMEF · 1 pointr/fountainpens

I'm not sure one would. (Afraid I disagree with u/mwgrover - but that's a great link he gave.) The micro is really fine. I used them for years before I switched to regular uni-ball simply because the micro felt rough on US paper. Then I switched to fountain pens and FP paper. Sec, I'll go get one... OK, the box says .2mm - assuming we're talking about this guy: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002FYXYJI

OK, writing with it, it looks roughly the same as a Sailor ProGear F nib, so a western EF (depending on the brand, wetness, ink, and paper) is going to be closest. (I used HP 24lb laser paper for this test.)

u/hunterhast95 · 1 pointr/pens

I know this thread is a week old, but in the chance that you haven't made a decision yet, I would like to recommend the Pentel Energel Style(or Philography, same pen, different name basically and the philography comes with a cheap little case). It uses the same ink as the Pentel Energel disposable pen you show that she likes, but it is a classier pen body and only runs $10-20 depending on where you purchase it. I have seen them on ebay for $9 each or 2 for $18. On Amazon they usually run $15-20 each. I've used $800+ pens(that I didn't own), and would prefer my Energel Style over anything.

out of breath

Cute :)

Admittedly when it was all three of them going down, particularly the fisherman, I found myself holding my breath out of anxiety. Nice cinematography though, pretty and clean. The sfx when the explosion happened and the snake dude got in his suit seemed low tech, but otherwise it was a pleasure to watch. Those didn't even affect my viewing I just figured we were giving notes!

Dr grips aren't all that thick, the grip isn't that soft and the refill is meh. I'm in the same boat with cramping. If you want a pen for all day writing check out the alpha gel jetstream from jetpens super comfy and super smooth or [Here's one for $14 on amazon prime! :D]

Edit: Post is rotated 90 deg, left to right & top to bottom doesn't make sense anymore.

Left to right, top to bottom:

Pens & Tools (I rotate my pocket pen & keep the rest in my bag. Logic dictates when to and which tool to carry.):

Leatherman Supertool Original with sheath - It's crazy to think, but this was retired before I was born. Several of my family members used to work in hardware stores so occasionally these things are found lying around brand new.

Leatherman Juice CS4 - Great little tool, it fits in my pocket without any notice.

Zebra F-701 .7 Black - Great look & feel but it writes like shit. Anyone know a good refill that fits?

Pentel EnerGel .7 Black - Incredibly smooth & bold, not too big a fan of the look.

G2 .38 & .7 Black - G2s, nuff said.

Uniball Signo 207 .7 Black - Comparable to the G2, but it has a metal clip.

Did you notice I pit the EnerGel in here twice? - Because I didn't

Frixion Erasable .7 Black - Ink is really sort of grayish, but it still beats white-out.

Everything Else:

Panasonic RP-HJE120-K IEMS - Perfect for people who are afraid of breaking or losing their buds. I wrap them around a binder clip and attack it to a belt loop with a carabiner.

Keys, Bottle Opener, PNY USB Drive - The flash drive has lubuntu on it. The opener is exclusively for mexican corner store drinks.

Best Made Co. Pocket Notebook - This isn't exactly the one I have but it is the closest I could find.

Dollar Store Notepad - It was 3 for dollar. Would you not buy it?

Dockers Trifold Leather Wallet - Not even close to the one I have, but still the closest they still make.

Not included: School ID, Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime (Direct picture quality complaints to Samsung except for the lighting, that's just because I suck.)

u/Cheddarlishous · 1 pointr/bulletjournal

I have found a few pens I like for different reasons. Papermate inkjoy gel dry really fast, even the thick ones I use. I think you can buy just black too.... I would suggest getting smaller than you think because the ink really comes out. My other pens I like 0.7, but the 0.7 here is too thick for me...

For not bleeding through anything I like the uniball signo. I've linked the 0.38 because I got them because they dried faster, but I prefer the look and feel of the 0.7's. I'm looking for 0.5's too... I like them, but they definitely start having into continuity issues once they're about halfway used.

u/1am1am · 0 pointsr/funny

I use the Cross Gel Ink and it's fantastic. Writes all the time, it's great for spinning in your fingers while bored and despite my dropping it a few times on the street and bouncing around, it still looks like the day I bought it. The click function is also satisfying and doesn't squeal or rattle.

u/jaspertouben · 1 pointr/writing

Oh man, .38 pens are the best! Have you ever tried the erasable ones? That was one of my best discoveries when I was in Japan!

Speaking of Japan, I got on a big whiskey kick while I was there. What's your go-to? And do you have an opinion on whiskey stones?

Let me tell you the Legend of the Jetstream!
A hybrid ink specifically built to be as smooth as a gel pen and as quick drying as a ballpoint.
A cool metal body with a grip that will keep you comfortable writing for hours on end.
I present to you: The Jetstream Alpha Gel, a durable and fairly cheap pen that uses some fantastic ink and is comfortable for an uncomfortable amount of time!

That's about the average price for that particular version. FYI, Camel Camel Camel is a must-have tool if you are shopping Amazon. You can track the price history, set alerts when a price drops, and they even have a handy Chrome plugin so you can just click the icon when you are on an amazon page instead of going to the 3camels website. I highly recommend it. For instance, I just got an alert yesterday because the Rapid Pro I was tracking dropped to $22.

They sell a $10 metal body G2 pen that feels a lot nicer in the hand than the traditional g2.

I know its not what you're looking for but maybe it will hold you up until you can afford the perfect pen.

u/hmbmelly · 2 pointsr/PenmanshipPorn

For you!

Yes, I wrote it fairly quickly but with nice handwriting in mind.

I used some Uniball pen like this.

u/stateinspector · 4 pointsr/pens

Parker IM rollerball sounds like a perfect fit.

u/muuushu · 2 pointsr/EngineeringStudents

I use a expensive-ish fountain pen now (Lamy Studio) and highly recommend it, but the best disposable pens I've ever used were the Uniball stick micro pens (http://www.amazon.com/Uni-ball-Stick-Micro-Roller-60151/dp/B00006IE8P) or deluxe.

u/jaaardstyck · 1 pointr/The_Donald

I'm a fully devoted G2 man. Even then, $15 felt like a pretty steep investment over the regular ones. https://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Limited-Retractable-Metallic-31153/dp/B0010NL4BU

I recently stumbled upon/bought the Pentel Libretto and love it way more than any other iteration of the Energel or Sarasa I’ve ever found. Worth a shot! https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01B25B4AQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_ZgJCCbXZHTGRA

u/BigChiefJoe · 2 pointsr/Handwriting

They are seriously the best.

And full color sets? They exist! I've got one on an Amazon wishlist!

Are you perhaps an engineer or architect? That printing is what my professors wanted mine to be, and it just never happened.

u/craykaay · 2 pointsr/Journaling

Pentel EnerGel

Black Ink, Archival, Waterproof (mostly)

It’s the most comfortable pen to write it’s as my hand doesn’t fatigue as much with gel pens. The ink is smooth and dries rather quickly. Sometimes, I’ll get my drink that drips across the pages - it smudges the ink a bit but doesn’t wash anything away like Papermate InkJoy pens (which were my previous favorite).

Also I keep the pen bodies and just get the cartridge refills.

u/rvis · 2 pointsr/AskReddit

Uniball Deluxe Micro

Straight barrel, fine point, instantly dry, super light. A close second is a Uniball Vision Micro.

I also keep a Lamy Fountain Pen around for signatures and generally being a douche in meetings. It's a decent fountain pen, regardless of my affectations and functional enough for extended writing. It is a bit large, though, so don't expect to be carting it around.

u/arithehurricane · 2 pointsr/AskMen

Guitar picks and pens. I have a great, inexpensive pen so when my friends try it out and get jealous I just give it to them and buy a new one. Seriously though, this pen is the shizz. Cheap, writes comfortably and no smudge. It dries immediately. Looks kinda fancy too.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/ArtFundamentals

I have tried sketching ballpoint pen once, it was a good learning experience. So go ahead and don't be afraid to try it out.

Personally, the recommendations were expensive for me and also I had little experience of pen drawings, hence I decided to get Pilot V7, and with printer paper, they worked really good.

u/hobbsit · 53 pointsr/AskReddit

Mmmm, the Sanford Uni-ball Micro 0.5mm in black is the greatest pen ever made. On a legal pad, the right amount of padding beneath just makes silky lettering.

These!

u/Ritz527 · 1 pointr/pens

I second the Retro51 pens. They come in a variety of styles, even some that might appeal to new doctors.

For example. The Dr. Gray pen references Henry Gray, an anatomist and surgeon. Your medical school friend might appreciate it. It also comes in a pen and pencil set.

u/mchughr · 1 pointr/pens

Not a clicky or capped pen, but I would recommend the tornado rollerball pen. They come in a bunch of colors and open/close with a 1/4 turn of the top.

I use [these Papermate Gel pens]( https://www.amazon.com/Paper-Mate-Retractable-Assorted-1951636/dp/B019QBOG3U/ref=sr_1_3?crid=12KDA8HXNFHPA&keywords=papermate+gel+pens+0.7&qid=1563355919&s=gateway&sprefix=paper+mate+gel+%2Caps%2C236&sr=8-3 ). They don't bleed through, they dry relatively fast, and they don't smudge when colored over with markets. Oh and they write super smooth.

u/kipthunderslate · 1 pointr/pens

Also a lefty, been using these for several years. I've tried switching to various other pens (Pilot G2, Jetstream, Signo 207, Cross Century, V5/V7 Precise, etc.) and have yet to find one that writes as well for me. No feathering, no bleed-through, no skipping or clumping, and the ink dries fast enough that I don't get any smudging, even after extensive note-taking.

The only downside is that they don't make them in a "nicer" barrel, nor are they refillable. But they're cheap, they write great, and they look good if you appreciate minimalism.

u/LewsTTelamon · 1 pointr/medschool

I fell in love with these pens during my first two years of medical school.

u/walkah21 · 1 pointr/funny

that's why you buy this. They are amazing!

u/jehsn · 1 pointr/pencils

I got lucky. It was $23 on Amazon for just a few days in late March/early April of 2015. I don't know why, and it's never been that low since.

u/FriedPi · 2 pointsr/EDC

Jetpens may have something you like, 100's to choose from, the metal pens start off around $60. Here's a cool carbon fiber for $38:

And Here's Retro's matte black stainless:

u/motivates_you · 1 pointr/Handwriting

I can do that!
I use three pens primarily.
Lamy Safari fountain w/Lamy ink--practicing or formal letters
UniBall Micro--work/journal
Zebra F301 gel if you can find it--work/journal

I feel like regular pens get a bad rap, but I love the uniBall and the F301 for a lot of reasons. The primary one is that they write very well!

u/Dav1dtheGnome · 1 pointr/pens

I second the vote for the Jetstream, and if you are willing to spend a little extra money for less than $10 you can get it in a metal body pen with a very comfortable gel grip:

https://www.amazon.com/Uni-Jetstream-Alpha-Gel-Black-SXN1000071P24/dp/B001BYNGGO/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1492893247&sr=8-2&keywords=uniball+alpha+gel

u/GMcrates · 3 pointsr/EDC

Cross click pen should do it! Actually it's slightly skinnier than many standard pencils.

Link to example but you can find them for less, different colors, etc.

Edit: Also, Staedtler Triplus Fineliner is skinnier than the Sharpie, could also work for you, but it feels like my Cross click is actually skinnier.

u/dbgt616 · 7 pointsr/HelpMeFind

Looks really similar to the Uni-ball Vision Elite BLX. Here is an image of it. Looks like you can buy them on amazon too.

u/heeleep · 1 pointr/minimalism

My EDC and favorite disposable stick is the [Uni-Ball Micro] (http://www.amazon.com/Uni-ball-Stick-Micro-Roller-60151/dp/B00006IE8P), $8 for 12. You can get them in an office supply store. The Super Ink is the best-writing, blackest stuff you can put on paper, but you cannot write on any slick or glossy surfaces without smudging.

u/Newbosterone · 1 pointr/EDC

What makes a pen EDC?

I like the feel of the Uni-Ball Signo 207 and Signo RT in my hand, and they lay down ink nicely. At ~$1.25, I don't fret when I lose one. I alternate those with a 4 1/2" by 3/8" pen that a vendor gave me. It's clipless, has a magnetic cap with a spongy stylus tip, and takes Parker jotter refills. If I could find it, I'd buy it in brass and other finishes.

I've got a couple of chrome Cross Classic pen and pencil sets I used to carry. Again, I like the feel, and they popular enough that you can get refills in several ink types. Those were just expensive enough that I worried about losing them. I didn't want to carry them loose in my pocket, but wasn't ready for a pen case, since I use them 1-2 day at most.

As usable works of art, someone just turned me on to Retro 1951, and I'm adding the glow-in-the-dark Dr Gray to my wishlist.

u/Buzzed_Like_Aldrin93 · 5 pointsr/fountainpens

Haha I completely feel you. I've somehow managed to hold on to my favorite pen for 3 years now though!

u/classiccriminal5805 · 1 pointr/CasualConversation

My favorite pen is the Pilot V5. It's a rollerball pen with an extra fine point (.5mm). I like how it writes and it comes in seven different colors. I've only ever bought a 5 pack from Target, but now that I know there's a seven pack I'm gonna buy that as soon as I need more.

u/MossyStump · 1 pointr/gamedev

I can't do gel pens. I always rock this badboy, my faithful v7

u/hairyharryli · 1 pointr/todayilearned

Cross Click. The writing is as smooth or smoother than Pilot G2. Very slim and sleek. Strong, sturdy metal build. I don't know how much writing you do, but if you write a lot, refill might be a concern. I haven't gone back to any other pen since owning this pen. Just try not to lose it or loan it to others.

u/mimafo · 0 pointsr/fountainpens

I know you said fountain pens, but I feel the need to also mention the Retro 51 Deluxe Stealth Tornado... it's very cool, even if it is a rollerball.

Uniball Alpha Jetstream. I swear by these guys. Amazon Link

I prefer uni alpha gel jetstream pens to the Dr Grip pens. The grip is a little squishier and the ink is smoother so I find I need less pressure to make an even line. https://www.amazon.com/Uni-Jetstream-Alpha-Gel-Black-SXN1000071P24/dp/B001BYNGGO

u/hoon_bair · 2 pointsr/EDC

Comparing the X-701 to the Sasra Grand and the Uni-ball Roller. Top part is from the Sasra, bottom is X-701. When I said the Sasra was the "best of both worlds", I was referring to the consistency and quality of the X-701 and the smoothness and line thickness of the Uni-Ball. It's kind of hard to make out in the picture, but the Sasra pen does not smear AT ALL compared to the G2, even when rubbed immediately after writing. It's kind of crazy. Ruggedness and water-resistance aside, this is a great pen for every day use and will now be my new daily driver.

u/miggyb · 2 pointsr/southpaws

If you're looking for something that doesn't smear, look at getting a box of these:
http://www.amazon.com/uni-ball-Stick-Micro-Roller-60151/dp/B00006IE8P/ref=pd_sbs_op_2

I've written on shitty glossy notebook paper that's horrible about smearing, and I've had no problems with those pens.

And cursive... Don't get me started on cursive. Everything I've ever signed is a unique snowflake.
