I'm in school too. I actually just bought most of my textbooks today. Cha-ching! Had to get my husbands as well. Sigh, one of my classes has FOUR textbooks for it this coming semester. I go to the University of Victoria and I am working on two degrees right now. I'm primarily finishing up my Anthropology degree. I should be done that at the end of next summer. However, I am also working on my Psychology degree. I'm not officially listed as being in Psychology but the advisor said I can start working on the classes I need for it for when I'm done anthro. It will take about another two years to finish my Psych degree. I actually just finished my summer semester up and got pretty good grades! I got an A in my developmental psychology course, an A- in my cultural anth course, and a B in my archaeology course. I am not a fan of archaeology. Still, I could have done better.
One neat thing about my school is that it tends to have a broad-based curriculum. For instance, with anthropology when you go off to graduate school you tend to specialize in something. You can specialize in medical anthropology or just in cultural in general, or you could specialize in archaeology in general or in coastal archaeology, etc. At UVic it is broad so your MA in anthro is your MA in anthro. You don't really have a speciality. Instead, you have to take courses and learn stuff from all the main disciplines.
This pen would help me out a lot as it's pretty comfortable to write with and I take a lot of notes at school and talk to a lot of people where I have to take notes. Anthropology and psychology equals a lot of writing!
These notebooks would be fantastic because in anthro we have to journal a lot and keep field notes and just, as I mentioned, write a lot. And these are fantastic quality and don't break quickly like others I've used.
Finally, these thank you notes would be amazing as I sometimes get bursaries and need to write thank you cards. Or these pens would be helpful as we have to make a stupid amount of posters in anthropology. Yes, I actually prefer writing a paper to doing up a poster. We get marks on how visually appealing it is as well as how relevant it is.
I think all of the stuff I listed can be found in my stationery/art folder if I win. :) Any one of the item would be a huge help in my school career. It's a shame that it's so expensive to go, still, I am grateful for the opportunity to do so.

Hi there! Welcome to /r/fountainpens! As a FP newbie myself, I hope I might be able to lend a little helpful advice on your search for a first pen. :)
Jinhao pens, I think most people would agree, are fair performers, and their costs at pennies on the dollar are quite attractive. A piece of advice, though: if you don't mind waiting for a Jinhao pen to be shipped from Asia, try eBay. You can almost always find their pens for a third of the cost as a US-based retailer, if not less. Here's the 159 for $4.50, for example.
Interestingly, many other Jinhao pens are also available on eBay for even less than this one. There's the 156 for $3, the 750 stainless for $3, and the X450 for $1.50, among many others.
Of course, any Jinhao pen you buy will not come with ink. You'll need ink to write anything with any pen! If you're after black ink, you could buy the Noodler's Heart of Darkness bundle, which is a bulletproof ink (which means it has properties that make it difficult or impossible to alter after it's dried on paper) that comes with a decent pen.
The Pilot Metropolitan deserves a nod here, too. It's a heavy pen (as it's made of metal), but some people love that premium feel at this price range. $13 shipped. If you don't like the zigzag pattern on the grip, Parker makes other models. Just search Amazon for the Pilot Metropolitan.
You might also consider the Parker Urban kit from Parker. $40 is a bit steep compared to the Jinhao and Noodler's kit, but it comes with everything you need all in one package. Some people don't much care for the Urban because it uses a proprietary converter mechanism (for filling the pen), but bah, humbug. It's a solid performer and is still easy to fill, even if it does fill differently from other pens.
I'll echo some general advice I've seen on these forums: Lamy pens aren't bad, but they tend to be overpriced. You'll run into lots of Lamy models if you do an Amazon search and filter by average review rating. They are highly reviewed pens. It's worth checking them out if you get more interested in fountain pens, but for starting out I'd recommend one of the units above.
Lastly, if you're feeling luxurious, you might be interested in the Massdrop sale on the Conklin Stylograph Mosaic. This little guy is $55--way more than the $12 Jinhao you started with--but it's also in a different kind of class, more a collector's item or a nice pen than simply a serviceable one. That $55 price tag expires today, and the regular price is closer to $100. I'd recommend a different pen for starting simply because this one is more expensive, but I also thought I'd let you know just in case because the deal is gone after today. :) There's no referral on that link. If anyone would like to help me with Massdrop referrals, my referral link is below.

The world of fountain pens is big, and I'm just getting my feet wet myself. I hope you find the tips here useful. :)
One of the first defining moments of my life was when I was 16 and with my grandfather when he passed away. I held his hand as he took his last breath. Another similar moment was when my son's biological father passed due to an overdose and was comatose until he passed. They were very different experience but both fairly peaceful.
With both of my children, it was a scary and exciting experience finding out that I was pregnant (1st at 17 and 2nd at 23). They continue to define my life every day. They are so amazing and beautiful.
Meeting my hubby. He is amazing and we have helped each other through various stages in life. He has supported me through two stints with sobriety (from alcohol) and we work together to work through our mental health ailments. We certainly are not perfect, but I never doubt his love and commitment to our family. I feel very lucky to have found such a wonderful man who loves me and our children unconditionally. He was always there for our son and myself when we were not "together."
One other defining moment was my ADHD diagnosis, it provided such a sense of relief and clarity. While sometimes it is very hard for me to accept that my brain is wired a certain way, I still find my ADHD/Depression/Anxiety/Substance Abuse to be frustrating. I let my family down despite the neurons in my brain misfiring. It has helped me to get my life on track (as much as it can be) and learn to embrace my strengths and not focus on the weaknesses so much.
Oooh, this is a fun challenge.
This is the most expensive item on my list, but I figure that with knives this is the best small EDC knife you can get for the money. I'm not a fan of large knives for daily carry, and the Dragonfly gets the job done.
While I initial thought was the F-91W, this watch seems to have far better water-resistance for roughly $7 more. Plus I prefer analog watches.
While I've never used one of these personally, why not take the loss of all my stuff as an excuse to pare down how much bullshit I carry in my wallet? Reviews (outside of Amazon) seem pretty good and I'd love to give this thing a shot.
I like having one of these kinds of dumb little multitools handy for prying and bottle-opening and other random tasks that I wouldn't want to abuse my knife with. At only $3 it's worth the space in my budget and my keychain. Speaking of keychains...
If you're like me, you often have to add and remove keys and other items from your keychain. Wire/cable keychains are the friggin best for this. I generally prefer the ball-and-socket types rather than the kind that screw closed, but I'm counting my dollars here.
I can't stand pens that use caps, and nothing writes as well for me as the Pilot G2. 0.5mm is about as fine a line as I want to get because the 0.38mm ones tend to get a bit scratchy on most paper. And if you'll allow me to count the cost as only a dollar rather than the price of a twelve-pack...
With a few extra buck open in the budget, I realized that I've had one of these on my keychain for about as long as I can remember, and it pays to have one handy with a copy of your choice of documents, music, and other media. Super handy to keep available at all times.
--
My total price for these tools puts me at $98, assuming the cost of only one pen. I assumed that I would be able to keep my phone, which provides me with enough illumination that I've never bothered with carrying a dedicated flashlight outside of the colder months when I'm usually wearing a coat. So I didn't bother with choosing one for this challenge. Anyone have any good suggestions for AAA, clicky tail-button flashlights under $20?
I don't know for sure but I think focusing on one letter at a time would be more effective. That's how people learn how to write originally, and that's also how the drafting class will teach it. I think the idea is that by writing the letter over and over, and trying to make each iteration better, you'll develop the muscle memory for that letter.
To be honest it might take longer than just 15 times per letter... it's something you may have to dedicate explicit practice time for every day for a while until your handwriting starts to improve, but I promise it will be well worth it.
r/Handwriting may be able to help. Good luck.
Edit: I would recommend investing in mechanical pencils or fine tip gel pens if you don't have them already. I use these.
For what it's worth, I think the LT1917 has become a standard because the original Bullet Journal web page sells them under their brand.
As mentioned here, LT1917 is 80gsm, which is relatively thin and makes a lot of pens bleed through and ghost. For more information about bleeding, ghosting, and general comparison between notebooks I recommend watching Which Notebook is the Best for Bullet Journaling?! (skip to 11:00 to see the comparison chart). I prefer Scribbles That Matter which is thicker (100gsm) and feels smoother to write on. My next purchase will probably be a Midori with 120gsm or a Rhodia to try them out.
One of the core principals of Bullet Journalism is that there are no hard rules. While it comes with some guidelines, you are free to use it however you see fit. Which means that there are no predefined pages. So for the most part you are going to be drawing the layouts. And this is why a Dotted paper helps because you can use the dots to draw your own layouts. You can checkout Pinterest for inspiration. The community uses the term "spreads" to signify two-page layouts used for all sorts of things.
As for pens, many recommend the Sakura Pigma Micron for good reason. While I use them for more "serious" work, when it comes to EDC I would highly recommend the Muji 0.38mm Fine Point Gel Pens. Unlike the Microns, they are not felt tip (which is why I wouldn't use them for EDC) but very sharp ball point pen with great consistency. A lot of people swear by the Pilot G2 0.38mm Ultra Fine Point but personally I wasn't pleased with them.
Finally, regarding the things you want to track, as I mentioned earlier, you can simply define the layouts of each page and track whatever you wish. A lot of the spreads you see from the community are really intricate. You can find a variety of them from very crazy daily layouts to minimal ones. It's all up to you.
Having said that, if drawing your own layouts daily seems like a lot of work (a lot of people actually spend a few hours planning them beforehand), then you might want to consider a more traditional Planner instead. As mentioned ITT, the Nomadic Planner has good paper (125gsm), weekly and monthly pages as well as lined and blanks for notes and the rest.
There is a whole universe of things to consider (and I'm more than happy to geek out about it), but I'd say just start with whatever. Don't think about it too much. Most of the negatives are personal, so while LT1917 doesn't work for some, it might for you. You'll figure things out as you go.
Well gosh, thanks! Just trying to share some love.
Truth be told, I am carrying... please hold I'll check my bag... eight notebooks at the moment. They are all different and have different uses.
I use the mini ones for projects (one for ideas for my Raspberry Pi, another for Adobe Lightroom thoughts and tricks), both regular Field Notes, grid. One is for ideas for the house, which happens to be the Expedition (because OMG dot grid!). A nicer Cahier for a project to be gifted at some point, and an aforementioned Wal-Mart el-cheapo for making a note, tearing out, and handing to someone.
Then the more durable Colors FN, a new page for every day, just my running task list (deposit check, get groceries, fix window screen, etc.).
Next, I have a notebook for work (I'm an engineer) that is a promo notebook branded for Wonderware, and try as I might, I can't find them anywhere commercially (but I'm pretty sure it's this, in black). They are PERFECT. Stiff board covers, pretty good paper, double ring binding, perfect for walking around a plant and taking notes. I'd order a box of 100, maybe. I'm on my sixth one, and the vendor won't give me any more without taking more training, so I'm SOL. I did buy this as the next-in-line replacement, though, and am excited to try it out.
This is my current journal (orange, medium), just for me and all my thoughts and shit and rants and y'know - journal stuff, and it comes with me everywhere. Been using it for over a year and it's a champ. I had to tape the corners back on with gaffer's tape. It's been halfway around the world, sailed the Carribean for a week in the salt spray and sun, been wet and dry and wet and tossed around. I would absolutely buy it again except the most awesome secret santa /u/leinistar sent me THIS ABSOLUTE BEAUTY in the Pens and Stationary exchange and I squealed like a 10 year old girl (I'm such a sucker for dot grid, f'real). Anyway, back to the Piccadilly - it takes ink like a mofo - just got a Pilot fountain pen that just gushes and generally bleeds through everything (even my work notebook- sniff) but this book takes it like a champ.
Bonus: Recently saw this website and consequently picked up this notebook. Decent price, great concept, but absolute shite quality paper and covers. Disappointment, but I'll still use it. I had to go through nine writing utensils before I found an acceptable compromise of not-bleed-through and not-paper-scoring. (Pilot G-2 0.7mm, incidentally)
-a hammock because the outdoors is awesome
-this sharpie is amazing
-these pens, although a little pricey, are AMAZING. Additionally, you can get refills for them on Amazon and those are inexpensive
-best coloring pencils imho
-Some really awesome book series one, two, three and four
-for math, here's some sodoku
-Some movies: Overboard, When Harry Met Sally, Burlesque
-Telescope
-Picnic basket
-Spirituality book
-some incense and an awesome fairy burner to go with them
I'll try and add some more later :)
Thanks for the contest
I really really want it! ( $5 and $10
Gotcha, in that case, here's a few well worth adding to any collection if it's not too late:
Bic Soft Feel Medium Easy to control when pushing softly, reliable ink flow. Great for light lines and construction. The tip does displace by about a mm when you press hard, so it makes dark lines more difficult to reliably create.
Zebra Z-Grip Max Harder to control for lighter lines as the ink flows a little too well. The tip has no displacement though, which means darker lines are much easier to create reliably compared to the bic.
Zebra Z-Grip Flight aka Z-Grip Smooth in the UK. Similar to the Max, no nib displacement, but the ink flows so freely, this is not something to be used for light construction. Very smooth if you like that sort of thing.
The cheap crystal and disposable ballpoints you find all around are OK, but the ink flow is unreliable. On rough paper, they generally have stable nibs and can produce almost pencil-like lines, but they stop and start working so often, it can be annoying.
Non-Ballpoint honorable mentions:
Pilot Hi-Tec C 0.3 - Free flowing hybrid pen. No variation in line-weight, and no going back. Unforgiving but fun when you're searching for ideas and not caring about the final quality.
Pilot G-Tec C4 0.4 - As above, but the 0.1mm difference is significant. Usually used to add line weight to sketches done in the 0.3.
Staedler Pigment Liners - Unfortunately mistaken to be 'markers' because people keep calling them that. Smooth and reliable ink flow with the hard nib. Much thicker and less scratchy than the Hi-Tecs, and far less forgiving. Worth getting a whole set as preferences will vary and the size difference between each is significant. Restrictive as they don't work well at shallow angles, but on the plus side, you can marker over them.
Most importantly, if you're going to be drawing using ballpoints, make sure to accompany it with toothy/rough paper. The paper is 80% of it imo. Smooth stuff just doesn't cut it with ballpoints if you want a consistently high level of control over line weights.
There are lots more of course, but these are my experiences so far.
Good luck!
Hey /r/EDC, I just wanted to thank all of you. 9 months ago I posted here because I just bought some fun new EDC toys but I was feeling really down. I wasn't working in the field I got my degree in, I had toxic, unhealthy habits, and was living in my parents' basement. Since then, I have landed - what I personally consider - my dream job, moved into my own place, and have been making progress on those toxic habits.
I was not expecting the outpouring of support that I received from a community that likes cool shit in their pockets. Y'all helped me push through a rough time, and for that I am truly thankful.
Now for my list of stuff:
Hi! I've been wanting to get a decent fountain pen for a while but I always get kind of scared away by all the different things (how to pick a nib, a pen, what kind of refill strategy to use, etc). I'm hoping someone can recommend me everything I need.
Here's everything I can think to mention to help:
Thanks to anyone that can help me out!
Just practice writing small! I've changed my handwriting on a whim just by doing this for half a page of regular notebook paper. I used to do it all the time in high school; I could never decide if I wanted to write my lowercase A's like "a" or "α", so I'd just write whichever one I wanted my handwriting to look like repeatedly until my hand got used to the motion.
I've recently sized down my handwriting as well in a similar way. Basically I've just been using a regular college-ruled notebook and when I take my notes in class, I make a point to make sure my letters are only 1/2 of each line because it's a lot easier to read (more white space between lines makes it feel less jumbled imo).
As someone else suggested, the dotted, grid, or lined notebook might help you quite a bit. But I would still practice in another notebook first (like don't go out and buy a $20 notebook immediately) to practice in, because it's probably going to look really messy until your hand gets used to the new way of writing.
I'd also suggest using a thinner pen if you aren't already. My favorite for general note-taking is the Pilot G2 Ultra Fine Point, though the Extra Fine Point (.5mm instead of .38mm) works well too. You can also find some pretty cute pens if you look on Korean and Japanese-themed websites (like Blippo), as they have many .35mm pens for pretty cheap.
The only real difference between this and the Not-At-Work Edition is the addition of a Springfield Armory XD Sub-Compact 9mm in bi-tone, a Crossbreed Supertuck holster (don't hate; I have had it for about 6 years, and my clips are actually from Theis Holsters because I got Kydex clips initially, and by the time I decided that metal was a better choice they had those crosses all over them), and the subtraction of the fobs for work.
Thank you kindly!! I use a kuretake sable brush pen: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001DMQIOG
I personally like the feel of using the sable hair brush vs other brush pens which I think use plastic or some other kind of synthesized hair?
My pen also has an adapter in it(purchased separately) so it lets me re fill and use any ink of choice, so far I like using this ink: https://www.amazon.com/Luxury-Brands-Noodlers-Bottle-19203/dp/B000WIUKIW
The white ink was drawn with this pen, so far it's been the most reliable white-on-black pen I've used(goes on with a clean smooth line with zero or little transparency or leaving a ball point pen line: https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00KK6X7CW
And then coloured with copic markers! 😄
Thank you again for your kind comment I really appreciate it!! 💕
These are the greatest pens in the world.
The whole Pilot G2 line is amazing. But I particularly love the .38 ultra fine pens. I love a fine point tip. It's so precise and it writes so smooth. if I could only write with one type of pen for the rest of my life this would be it. I love it so much.
Chairs that cost $1000+ are not out of the norm at all.
Think of it this way: if you are a working professional in a white collar job, and you have to spend 6+ hours a day sitting, it makes a lot of sense to buy a chair that you are comfortable in. People pay ten times as much for things they use ten times less (e.g. cars).
It's a principle that I apply to much of what I own. As a student, I use just a couple of things really often:
For each of those I have spent a significant amount of time and money figuring out what makes the best tool for me. Because they are the tools I use the most, they had better be of good quality. They are, in order:
All of those are more expensive, but they make working and doing what I do a joy. If they are going to be my tools, then they are going to be good.
Also, I'm really sorry if that came off as highly pretentious. I realize now that my not have come across the nicest. Oh well, I've typed it out, I can't back out now!

Here are some books and a couple by Dr Stanislav Grof. Hes very well studied and well spoken dealing with the mind, emotions and basically everything that has to do with our Being. If ur wife enjoys psychology at all then she'll find Grof interesting i imagine. im also guessing that people from the rainbow gathering have heard about him or have read some of his stuff since it attracts those minds sometimes. he definitely has some far out ideas, but if u start to think about what he says and do ur own reasearch and/or experiments some of it might start to make sense or click.

Here are the Darn Tough socks and they are more expensive than i remember. Still worth it to buy at least one pair though since u can mail them back for a brand new pair whenever!

Here is the Pilot G2 pen. and id suggest getting the 20 count of them since its ten dollars more and u get 20 pens instead of 1 lol. plus a bunch of fun colors, although it might be a hassle to carry all those around.

Great! Okay, let's see... Nice pens that fit the Pilot G-2...

In terms of handmade wood pens, here are some from Etsy that take standard rollerball refills and should take your refill!

In terms of the thinnest of these... I think you'd like the Machine Era Co. and Pilot Cavaliers -- they are nice and slim, with a decent amount of heft -- both are well-made.
Have fun shopping!
This contest was maid for me. I literally have a writing wishlist. I'm also going to link a few things about writing.
I love to write letters to my daughter and I also write the letters in a journal for her to read when she gets older!. I would love to get this [TWSBI 508 fountain pen]http://amzn.com/B00BT1BLRU) (or this Pilot Metropolatin fountain pen) and fill it with this Pilot Iroshizuku Kon-Peki ink to write with. All of this would be used to write daily and also record those letters in a journal like this rustic leather journal. But those are pipe dreams at the moment until I can earn enough money turking.
A gift card would be nice if I won (my e-mail is mrbrentoz@gmail.com)
Keep on writing!
Write On!
Okay, so my recommendations are going to be based heavily on my personal experiences.
My two favorite "non-fountain pen" pens:
Best disposable gel pen: http://www.jetpens.com/Pentel-EnerGel-Euro-Needle-Point-Gel-Ink-Pen-0.5-mm-Black/pd/6265
Best disposable rollerball: http://www.jetpens.com/Morning-Glory-Mach-3-Roller-Ball-Pen-0.38-mm-Black/pd/11347
Now, I usually use fountain pens, because they're the best writing instrument. ;) So, how do you feel about starting to use fountain pens? They have so many advantages over traditional ballpoint/gel/rollerball pens. Let me know if you're interested and I can send over some starting recommendations.
And how do you feel about needlepoint pens like the two I linked above? I like them because they feel more precise on paper, and I also like the needle tip aesthetically over the traditional conical tip.
If you're not willing to purchase from an online retailer (No affiliation with Jetpens! Just a happy customer), I would suggest a Pilot Precise V5 or a Uniball Signo 207, both of which can be found for relatively cheap at Walmart and the like. The V5 is a solid rollerball that's super popular, for good reason. It's dependable, super smooth, and a buttery writer. The Uniball is very similar to the G2, but I find it to be much smoother. So maybe you can give either of these a shot?
http://www.amazon.com/uni-ball-Retractable-Translucent-12-Pack-33950/dp/B000FDR47E
http://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Precise-Stick-Rolling-Extra/dp/B00006IEBI
Other people may recommend a Parker Jotter or a Fischer Space Pen, but I HATE ballpoint pens. But if that's your thing, give it a shot. These two are more permanent pens which you'll refill.
Pilot G2 pens. I prefer .5 but you can get them in .38 as well. Get used to doing things in pen and when a mistake is made you mark it out with a single line. Buy them in bulk so you always have one. Writing in pen makes you focus a lot more on what you are writing, which can help immensely with retaining it long term.
A notebook or binder for each class. If that class has a lab component get a separate lab notebook for it. One with numbered pages and a fillable table of contents. I like these.
A decent calculator. I carried a TI-89, but you don’t have to go that big if budget is a concern. Whichever one you get write your name in sharpie on the back and if possible inside the battery bay to make it easier to identify as yours if it winds up in lost and found.
Lastly and most importantly get the most comfortable mattress you can afford. If you are going to put money into any piece of furniture while you are in college it needs to be your mattress. A decent night’s sleep is your most important tool while learning. Even for those long nights a couple hours in a good mattress will go farther than 8 in a shitty one. This is a lesson I didn’t learn until graduate school and I wish I had learned it sooner.
Here's some things I like that I've ordered for myself that would be good in a gift box.
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B009E6J52U/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_4 The super sticky notes
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00016AU3K/ref=ox_sc_sfl_title_3?ie=UTF8&psc=1&smid=A017459625RX007BJKRR6 KAva Stres Relief Tea
http://www.amazon.com/International-Arrivals-Neon-Gelly-Sticks/dp/B00FFIIFH2/ref=pd_rhf_sc_p_img_5 Gel Hilighters
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000FDR47E/ref=cm_cr_ryp_prd_ttl_sol_6 (I love these gel pens)
And I'd add a bunch of notecards, empty folders, maybe some advil, and a cute badge holder.
Ohto Horizon. Excellently made pen, solid construction, and fun to hold. Not something as conventional as a Pilot or Pentel, so it stands out.
Pentel Energel Alloy. This is one of my favorite pens- I love all the EnerGels, but the metal construction on this is excellent.
Pilot G2 Limited. I prefer the Limited over the regular G2, it's got a very comfortable grip, solid body, and the ink is of course great.
There are tons of great options, the Parker Jotter I can definitely recommend. I've never had any leakage issues with the stock ink cartridge it came with but I also normally switch it out for a Fisher Space Pen refill.
Other good metal pens that aren't too expensive might be a Cross Click which is my current edc with a Fisher Space Pen refill in it which is great for signing receipts and quick things like that. I use it at work to give to customers to sign their receipts.. I like it because it is skinnier than the Parker Jotter, however, it is easier to accidentally click in your pocket whereas with the Jotter you have to use an intentional amount of force to click it.
Another one (or two) would be the Fisher Bullet Space Pen or the Cap-O-Matic Space Pen. The bullet is really quite compact and the Cap-O-Matic is a regular sized pen.
And if you're really worried about ink leakage in your pocket then you can get something like a Lamy Swift which has a mechanism so that when the tip of the pen is extended, the pocket clip retracts which makes it impossible to clip onto your pocket. One thing to keep in mind with the Lamy Swift is that it comes with a rollerball refill which is incredibly smooth but it puts out more ink than a regular ballpoint so it has a longer drying time and can smear on receipt paper.
Why? - No massive reason, a bic will still write the same words. I got into it because I can write faster and neater with a fountain pen and once you get one it spirals from there. You then get into different inks, nib, styles and you start writing for the sake of it. If you get hooked you'll never go back to a normal pen. Plus once you have the pen you only need to get ink which is cheap and lasts for ever, so it is better for the environment and can be cheaper than buying disposables.
Entry level? - Yes a lot of pens that write really well can be bought cheaply, I'll list a few entry level pens
If you don't mind a wait for your pens I reccomend some Baoer pens from Asia, the cost a few bucks each and take a while to come but are great writers and if you don't get into the hobby you won't have wasted your money. I have all three listed below and they perform on par with my more expensive pens. Mine took 2 weeks to arrive in the UK and you will also need to get some ink as they don't come with any.
I never used baron fig, but I've used tomoe river paper. I love the
Pilot Precise V5 RT Retractable Rolling Ball https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CDW4BZW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_OG2FybW075H1E but it might be on the inky side that it will dry quick but leave shadowing on the other side of the page.
Another love is Uni-Ball Signo 207 Retractable Gel Pen https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FDR47E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_jL2Fyb3PXX1K1 but gel ink can get smudgy if you don't let it dry.
Also when looking at pens, keep in mind point size. I like medium to fine because I'll write small, but you'll want larger if you write big.
Welcome!
What kind of pen is best mostly depends on your own personal preference and style. If you're happy with a cheapo Bic then use that. I found that I really enjoy both sketching and taking notes with a Pilot G2 Ltd that I've fitted with a Mont Blanc fine-point rollerball refill. First refill lasted ~6mos of moderate use before it started drying out.
Glad to have you with us and looking forward to seeing your contributions.
I love these pens I take a stupid amount of notes, since grad school basically has me reading 24/7, and these things are awesome. Perfect grip, perfect ink flow, no bleeding. I love them. And I'm out currently :(
My life lesson is about life. I love to travel, and initially I did it to run away, because I thought there was something grand out there, something more, that somewhere out there we're people and places that were far superior to where I am from. And for a while it did kind of seem that way. Things were magical. Then I found myself working on a vineyard in France. The owners middle aged divorced son was a vile creep who touched me whenever he had the chance and then stole my panties and had the nerve to email me after I'd left asking if I'd come back for them. That's when I realized that people are people wherever you are, there's no escaping that so best learn to deal with people and problems than run away.
I was schooled!
One of my favorite refills! They fit in anything that an Energel, Uni Signo 207/307, or Zebra Sarasa will fit in to. I currently use one in a Zebra Sarasa Grand everyday and I’ve also used one in a Pentel Energel Alloy body.
With some minor trimming they’ll also fit in most metal bodies that fit a Pilot G2.
For your use, a notebook would be a lot better for the note taking part. I recommend this one, along with one of these.
As for the browsing reddit and general internet use, the 7 is pretty awesome. I love mine so far.
I'm pretty much in the same boat, except that I'm a real man so I use ultra fine point pens. :-P
I've had my Nexus 7 for just a couple of days now and think it is great. For the price point, it utterly trounces the Kindle Fire (which is getting passed down to my niece shortly). The screen is lovely, the UI is far more polished, and I'm generally enjoying using it quite a bit more. I suspect it'll get a bit better, too, as it is Google's flagship tablet right now.
Meet Frixion Pens I love them for being able to reorganize stuff, also for sewing. lol.
I totally get where you are coming from though. It's whatever works for you. I love the act of writing it down, it makes it mean more to me. Plus it gives me a good reason to have some solid "me" time in the morning where I check in with it.
I'm a fan of both of these.
This is more showy and just a nice addition to have in your arsenal:http://www.jetpens.com/Midori-Brass-Bullet-Ballpoint-Pen-0.5-mm-Gold-Body-Black-Ink/pd/9086
This is a good inexpensive pen that has a long, weighted body that writes very smooth:http://www.amazon.com/Pentel-Energel-Retractable-Roller-BL407-A/dp/B001PMHUSW/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1417038547&sr=8-3&keywords=pentel+energel+pen
Edit: Just saw the bit about the cap and the clip. Maybe the first will do you best. haha
I am in love with the Pilot Frixion pens! I have a black and a blue one 0.7 (0.35 mm) and they are amazing with my Leutchtturm1917 dotted. And I have a few cough of their Friction Colors for doodling / creativity. Oh and a pen loop to make sure I always have a pen!
I would say it depends on where they are going. The safest answer is to get them Fisher Space Pens and Field Notes Expedition Editions.

The space pen will write anywhere, upside down or high/low altitudes because of the pressurized refills.

The FN Expeditions are plasticish paper that is water, rip and acid proof. They come in a 3 pack so 2 packs would be best.

If they are not going anywhere crazy, simple Uni-Ball Signo 207 is a perfectly fin and inexpensive pen. And you can get them at a store usually.

Then as far as notebooks go i would still go with Field Notes, their regular notebooks would work fine.
Edit: Post is rotated 90 deg, left to right & top to bottom doesn't make sense anymore.
Left to right, top to bottom:
Pens & Tools (I rotate my pocket pen & keep the rest in my bag. Logic dictates when to and which tool to carry.):
Leatherman Supertool Original with sheath - It's crazy to think, but this was retired before I was born. Several of my family members used to work in hardware stores so occasionally these things are found lying around brand new.
Leatherman Juice CS4 - Great little tool, it fits in my pocket without any notice.
Zebra F-701 .7 Black - Great look & feel but it writes like shit. Anyone know a good refill that fits?
Pentel EnerGel .7 Black - Incredibly smooth & bold, not too big a fan of the look.
G2 .38 & .7 Black - G2s, nuff said.
Uniball Signo 207 .7 Black - Comparable to the G2, but it has a metal clip.
Did you notice I pit the EnerGel in here twice? - Because I didn't
Frixion Erasable .7 Black - Ink is really sort of grayish, but it still beats white-out.
Everything Else:
Panasonic RP-HJE120-K IEMS - Perfect for people who are afraid of breaking or losing their buds. I wrap them around a binder clip and attack it to a belt loop with a carabiner.
Keys, Bottle Opener, PNY USB Drive - The flash drive has lubuntu on it. The opener is exclusively for mexican corner store drinks.
Best Made Co. Pocket Notebook - This isn't exactly the one I have but it is the closest I could find.
Dollar Store Notepad - It was 3 for dollar. Would you not buy it?
Dockers Trifold Leather Wallet - Not even close to the one I have, but still the closest they still make.
Not included: School ID, Samsung Galaxy Grand Prime (Direct picture quality complaints to Samsung except for the lighting, that's just because I suck.)
Goal 1-My goal is to become a professor in Sociology and inspire students to make the world a better place for all of us.
I am applying for PhD positions at the moment, which focus on health and illness and hopefully I will get a position and start (or, I guess continue) my path!
>
Goal 2- Another goal of mine is to start a family. Looking for a husband, on the market at the moment, gentleman :)

Wish list item: Here are the ball-point pens I ran out of to start writing my personal statement!
I'm not even a pen snob, but I stole a uni-ball pen from a friend years ago, and it was life changing. I buy maybe a pack of 12 every year for ~$15 and they are godly. Like, good enough to get a high school kid to find out what kind of pen they'd filched and keep using them for the next decade.
Specifically these guys.
These are pretty good. And you're right, they're not issued but you can always bring a bunch of gear that isn't issued anyway (as long as it's not considered contraband).
I've always used my pen instead of a pencil/non-erasable pen because if you've made a mistake you can easily erase and write it again. This will be especially true when filling out paperwork during the first three days.
The pen is easier to read when you're trying to decipher your chicken scratch notes at night when studying as well.
Ok!
There's also the option of Frixion erasable pens.
[8-pack of capped ones](
http://www.amazon.com/Pilot-FriXion-Erasable-8-Pack-31569/dp/B004DOMK2U/ref=sr_1_1?s=office-products&ie=UTF8&qid=1398707317&sr=1-1&keywords=frixion)
7-pack of much nicer clicky ones
Good luck!
Good school supplies are ones that last a long time or are of a higher quality then the cheapest alternative. I have looked at local stores and amazon. I simply do not have the money this year/parents willing to splurge for the supplies that last and are good. My problem most the time is two or 3 good pens can last me all year or I'll go through 3x 20 packs of cheap pens.
For example if I could get my dream school supplies this year (not that it will ever happen)
What I will end up getting right now are cheap binders and notebooks, the cheapest lead I can find and cheap pens.
Sorry for typing such a long thing!
I know it's makeup related but I fell like this mixing palette is still a weird thing to have on my list. I just really want one to mix lip tars, foundations, etc.
Also, by looking trhough my wishlist for this, I realized I totally have gel pens on my list. I don't remember putting them on there and they definitely aren't makeup-related.
We all know interspecies romance is weird
I've got a couple of nice pens - a fountain pen and a nice cartridge pen - but I get more use out of the Pilot Precise V5 extra fine rollerball pens. I love those pens more than just about any other pen I've used.
I have two favorite kinds of pens.
Pentel RSVP Fine It's a ballpoint, writes smoothly, comfortable to hold, last a long time. Also you can get tiny adorable ones with keyrings on them. And colors. It's my favorite for writing on paper.
Pilot Precise V-5, Extra Fine Ink pens, I use these mostly for drawing, but they're unfailingly smooth and write nicely too. I usually buy them a dozen at a time. I got hooked on them at my last job.
Pentel Energel RT Alloy. Silver. Great EDC pen.

Have Retro 51 Albert set as well. Love 'em.
Here you are! I'm pretty sure all the colors and patterns are available on Amazon.
Congrats on your new toy!
My boyfriend got me a nameplate for my desk and a stamp that says my name (for stamping my classroom library, their assignment notebooks, etc.). He also got me a bunch of stamps for grading. Ones that say wonderful and sign here. I use those all of the time. Special grading pens are nice. I have these friction pens. They're the besssst!!
I use these they are .38-I love them. I'm especially enjoying the green ink one.
I'm a grad student and I write a lot, so I consider myself somewhat of an expert ;)
Personally I've always wanted one of these: https://smile.amazon.com/Whitecoat-MedInfo-Clipboard-Medical-Black/dp/B00C2EG826/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1525306865&sr=8-3&keywords=clipboard+medical
Also a nice set of pens like https://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Retractable-Premium-Roller-Dozen/dp/B001E6D3W6/ref=sr_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1525306908&sr=8-5&keywords=gel+pens will be clutch and they're on sale right now too!
Besides that, just lend an ear when she needs to rant after a long day. Prepare meals for her. Take her on dates. And don't get upset when she's working long days and has to come home and study. But honestly if y'all made it past M2, you're probably in the clear in terms of understanding her busy hours.
You the real MVP
That's a great question! I originally used a Fodderstack XL with a couple of different pens, all of which got thoroughly dinged up in the process. A case like the leather ones protects the pens a bit more. Also, it's bulkier than a pen by itself, which means I tend to a) remove it more or b) take a bit more care with my posture and pocket position (which is a weird thing to say; not sure how to explain it). Both are different from when I used to carry Vision Elites; those pens were always in my pocket and cracked, broke, scratched, everything. For me, the case means I'm cognizant of the pen. You might be different, so you might be fine without.
I'll swap out my pens tonight and get you some photos in the Thursday thread.
Not capped but the Pentel Energel RT Alloy would feel at home in big hands.
The Sheaffer 300 is my favorite "big" fountain pen. You may like the roller ball. If I am not mistaken you can use a G2 refill in them without modification. Unfortunately I only have the fountain pen, but it works in a sheaffer aggio rollerball I have and both take the sheaffer slim refill.
im heading back to school on the 6th and i really need pens i understand if you dot but thank you anyway for your amazing offer

Practice! Muscle memory is a real thing. Also a better than average pen makes a difference. For a non-fancy recommendation, I love these:
PILOT Precise V5 Stick Liquid Ink Rolling Ball Stick Pens, Extra Fine Point, Black Ink, Dozen Box (35334) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00006IEBI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_7u7SDbHZ931KQ
MS4 here. You've asked about note-taking specifically, so I'm going to set aside the other uses for a laptop/tablet+keyboard such as writing papers and watching lectures.
For what it's worth, I've taken the vast majority of my notes using pen and paper. I'm more intentional and thoughtful when I write notes by hand, which in turn helps me remember my notes better. I also find the muscle memory I retain from manual handwriting to be much stronger than from typing on a keyboard.
I know it isn't for everyone, but for me, nothing beats a good Moleskine notebook plus a Pilot G-Tec-C. I use these for note-taking, smartphone for internet at the hospital, and PC for research, writing & gaming. :-)
I have two types of pens that I use. The first is the Pilot V5 which is a gel ball point pen http://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Precise-Stick-Rolling-Extra/dp/B00006IEBI
The second type is Sakura Micron pens which an assorted set can be found here http://www.amazon.com/Sakura-30062-6-Piece-Pigma-Micron/dp/B0008G8G8Y/ref=sr_1_sc_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1370448156&sr=8-1-spell&keywords=macron+pen
Hope this helps and good luck!
Check out the Pilot Metropolitan with the F nib. The fine nib on this pen is very much a extra fine nib on other brands (ie... Lamy EF = Pilot F) I purchased mine from Goulet Pens for $15...
The price is all over the place on Amazon from $15 to $20 depending on the design of the barrel...
http://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Metropolitan-Collection-Fountain-91101/dp/B009M3PJFM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1407355350&sr=8-3&keywords=pilot+metropolitan+fine+nib+black
On Goulet they are $15 across the board.
http://www.gouletpens.com/Pilot_Metropolitan_Fountain_Pens_s/1336.htm
So final price will depend on if you qualify for free shipping from Amazon since Goulet charges 5-6 bucks for shipping. <--- Seriously though, the best packaged order I have received from any company... and bar none the best customer service Ive ever had.
I love Pilot Precise V5- extra fine :)

> Pilot G2 pens
If you're feeling like BD pen needles the Pilot G2 pens in the Ultra Fine (0.38) size is great. I haven't had to scrunch an address onto a prescription in ages.
Hi! Amazing contest! It will definitely help someone!!
I attend Indiana Tech. I'm taking online classes instead of going to campus thanks to my illness. It's hard for me to get to class some days because of the pain, so it was a better choice for me to stay home. I'm a year away from getting my degree in Health Information Management. I take one class at a time, and right now is Medical Coding. Which is sooo hard! Luckily I get my books from the school sent directly to me. I don't however have any pens for note taking. What I really need is ink for my printer, but I don't know what kind...and a cooler thing for my laptop...but again I don't know how to choose. I'm kind of tech dumb. So the pens would be the thing I really need. Besides that, I'm pretty much set. :)
This set is fantastic for 0.38 mm pens. They aren't quite as inexpensive as the Pilot equivalent, but the color selection is fantastic for complex drawing. I found myself using a black pilot for writing normal notes, but the colors for diagrams and notation.
Uniball Signo 207 are my go-to pen for bar rushes, but if it's a slow shift, I use a cheap glittter pen. Makes our chef smile, because we hand write our tickets.
First, excellent name.
Second, you only need one pen. It's the Pilot G2 in your desired line thickness. I like 0.38 mm. But some people prefer thicker
Thirdly, efficiency = (the shit you gotta do)/(the amount of work+time it takes you to do it). Efficiency comes. With time. The nice thing about residency is you'll be doing so much of what you have to learn that it will crystalize into memory for you. The process works.
Fifthly, your job is to learn. You aren't expected to be particularly functional from day 1.
Lastly, a list of tips:
Roaring Spring Oversize Lab Book, 11 3/4" x 9 1/4", 76 sheets, Numbered https://www.amazon.com/dp/B002HIGF1Q/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_2aZYBbKDXBKGE

Basic Care Naproxen Sodium Tablets, 300 Count https://www.amazon.com/dp/B074F2FSX4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_TcZYBbS0NV0S0
So, I checked out your website and I think your pens are beautiful.
I do have one quick question though. I'm really picky about the pens I use, and my favorite to write with are Uniball.
Would I need a specific type of pen (IE I see ballpoint and rollerball on your site) to accommodate those specific refills?
Edit: Also, Black Walnut Black Chrome Twist Slim Pen has a typo and says Slime.
https://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Metropolitan-Collection-Classic-91207/dp/B009X9Z2DY/ref=sr_1_6?keywords=pilot+metropolitan&qid=1573528047&sr=8-6
you can usually find the metros for cheaper on amazon :)
edit: oops... looks like this one isn't a fountain pen. anyway amazon is where i've gotten mine before. the "retro pop" collection goes on sale occasionally.
The Leatherman Wave, the flashlight, the Fisher Space pen, the Gerber knife, and the flashdrive all fit into the Nylon Sheath that comes with the Leatherman.
EDIT: How they fit in the leatherman sheath.
The sheath has a narrow pocket behind where the leatherman goes. It is meant for an extra set of bits for the screwdriver. The Gerber knife fits in there really well. There is a small pocket behind the velcro where I keep the flashdrive. There are 2 elastic tubes on either side that work really well for holding my pen and light. The paracord helps me to grab the right tool just by feel.
I usually carry a Kershaw Blur, but I am carrying the Gerber for a few years in preparation to give it to my son. (for added sentimental value)
these Pilot Frixion Pens are my favorite.
The Rocketbook Wave is also great for lecture.
I am partial to these. But your pen is pretty nifty as well.
Pilot G2 0.38 is the best that I've found.
Consistent, dark, clean line.
http://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Retractable-Premium-Roller-Ultra/dp/B0017TMMLS
I used to mark my sheet music with pencil, and I use a lot of markings indeed.
Now i use erasable frixion gel pens, and they come in different colors so now I can color code my notes. It’s super handy! Best thing is these pens are erasable so once I don’t need the notes i just erase them and don’t have to worry about marring my books. Best invention ever.

Have you tried writing with a fountain pen before? You can use an extremely relaxed grip with them and have no problems putting down clean lines. I recommend a Pilot Metropolitan or a cheap Chinese fountain pen to try out and see if it helps with your cramping. If it doesn't work your only out about 13 bucks at the most if you can't return it.
http://www.amazon.com/uni-ball-Retractable-Micro-Point-Black/dp/B0015ZZ7P2/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1420526663&sr=8-1&keywords=uniball+micro+207 it's seriously a fantastic pen at an amazing price for a box of 12
You can easily fix mistakes like that with a white pen- I use this one: Uni-Ball UM 153 Signo Broad Point Gel... https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KK6X7CW?ref=yo_pop_ma_swf
Matches my leutchturm paper perfectly.
Maybe get him a decent pen that uses refills. I had a fancy Montblanc pen years ago, that thing lasted me probably 20 years until I finally ruined it. Bent over and it fell out of my pocket, then ran it over. Almost made me cry!
Montblanc pens didn't used to be SO expensive, and now I work from home, so seems silly to spend that money. So I bought a couple of awesome Pilot pens. They're about $13 and feel extraordinarily well made, and they write nicely too. One of those pens if you take it out of your pocket so a person can borrow it to sign something, they end up holding the pen, looking at it, studying it for a few seconds and say "hmm, that's a nice pen!". https://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Metropolitan-Collection-Classic-91207/dp/B009X9Z2DY
Definitely the V5 in my opinion, Vision is another good line if you're looking to go Uni-ball/Stick. If you're looking retractable then I would say the retractable V5 (which is refillable), the 207, or my girlfriend's pick the classic G2.
Lol bought a pentel alloy. It writes beautifully and is also a metal clad body. Cost 5 bucks a Wal-Mart. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B001PMHUSW/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?ie=UTF8&qid=1480651627&sr=8-5&pi=AC_SX236_SY340_FMwebp_QL65&keywords=pentel+energel&dpPl=1&dpID=413EKGAapML&ref=plSrch
Shower curtain and my favorite pens!
I chew on my pens and sometimes they explode. Obviously I don't want to walk around with ink on me all day, so I routinely shower after office work. ;3
Schmad on my add on :D Thank you for the contest!
Thanks, I use the Pilot G2 05 (Extra Fine)! To be completely frank, it does take a while to dry on the Leuchtterm paper, so, for me at least, smudging can be a bit of an issue since I'm not the most careful person :)
I have these and I love them! Relive the younger years with gelly roll pens. :) I'm addicted to cute Japanese stationery.
Also, congrats on everything! How did you lose the weight? What was your plan? I need to lose, but I am very picky when it comes to food.
My list:

I've been looking and looking to upgrade my EDC, but it's a lot. I really want a bag, pen, maybe new wallet (current one is filled TO THE MAX. Would like to downsize), knife/multitool, waterbottle, etc., etc.
Why is your future pen set so awesome looking? Why am I drawn to it? I want answers!!
I'm a roller ball fan. I will probably use these pens for the rest of my life. But that set is intriguing. I think the fact that the come in a case is what I like so much.
The pen that I would recommend is Pilot Metropolitan Collection Gel Roller Pen. It has a nice looking partially metal body and takes G2 and Precise V5 RT refills quite handily. There are also a few other styles for the pen if you just search Amazon or jetpens.com. I just tested it out and it has the same unnoticeable small amount of tip wiggle as the standard body for the pen.
I've been using Pilot Frixion Erasable Pens for years. They're quite useful and I highly recommend them for everyday writing.
Here you go. I have this one and it's a neat little pen and writes nicely.
Best pens I've used are these US Amazon link
My 5 yr old has been using them for the past two years. Makes those writing books reusable.
Thank you! The values I used two Copic grayscale markers and used a white gel pen for the highlights. The line art was done with a Pentel ink brush
In rough order, starting from the upper left corner:
The wallet has enough stuff in it to do an entirely separate post.
Uni-ball Gel 0.5 FTFW!
But your thing looks pretty cool too...
The pens in question. So, 12 bucks, you get 8 pens and I can get one moderately intricate queen out of a pen. Or a twin with one inch lines quilted on them. Seriously, love them. Different colours means I'll always have a pen to work with whatever fabric. Black fabric? BREAK OUT THE RED! It shows up as a purple glossy sorta line on my machine :D
Pilot G-Tec C4, you can probably tell from the picture, but I really enjoy them
Amazon Link
Pretty sure it's a uni-ball Signo 207.

are you kidding? these make taking notes FUN
http://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Retractable-Roller-Barrel-12-Count/dp/B00006JNJ8
Last semester, I went fully digital when taking notes for my classes using my SP4. It's not an outright "better" experience - I would rather say that it's just "different" when compared to taking notes with pen and paper.
Good things:
Bad things:
For reference, before the SP4, I used to take notes with paper and 0.38mm Pilot G2 pens from high school up until now, which is a pretty good chunk of time. I don't see myself going back to pen and paper unless absolutely required.
Pilot FriXion Clicker Retractable Erasable Gel Pens Fine Point https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009QYH644/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_qQ4YBbEH1BPP0
Here you go these are really fun
The Silver tip shape looks like the Uni-Ball 207. Available both in black and in red. The way the ink is laid on the paper looks similar to what you get from a gel pen like the 207.
I use a check presenter and a G-2 for credit card receipts, it makes signing for credit cards so much faster and the customers ~90% of the time remember to clip the pen back to the presenter before handing it back.
Check Presenter: http://www.ebay.com/itm/181387485576
Pen: http://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Retractable-Premium-Roller-Extra/dp/B00006JNJ8
I would suggest a pilot vanishing point as other people have said. Clicky fountain pens.
I may also suggest as an alternative (non fountain pen) using a Pilot Frixion
retractable (well some of them are, some are regular capped), ERASABLE, gel pen. i love them.
Uni-ball Signo by far the best white pen.
a uniball signo in white! you can get them off amazon in a 3 pack here!
they are good pens, if a little broad.
I have one of these fountain pens. It looks like it may be unavailable now but /r/fountainpens can have you covered.
These kind of pens write very well but the ink erases with heat (that's the point) so I wouldn't get the pages you write in too hot.
Montblanc pens go up to the thousands, so a few hundred is not bad considering Trump is a billionaire and the President of the United States. Cross is actually affordable for normal people too. For plebs like me though, I'll stick with my Pilot G2 Limited.
https://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Limited-Retractable-Roller-31536/dp/B00FACLJBM
Ooo I've got some! Didn't know they were add-ons at first -_-
One for the bunny

And my favorite pens!
Check out the Pilot Metropolitan
Great pen imo that takes the G2 refill

rhodia dot grid pad
and pilot g2 0.38 pen
Perfect combo for any kinda sketching / brainstorming
Thanks. It's all just a black fine point rolling ball pen around the paint. I think it helps bring the colors out when watercolors can get muddy and lack contrast.
I am going to UCSC for a double major in Computer Science and Robotics Engineering. This, this, this and/or this would really help me out. It's just pens and stuff for notes.
Pretty much any office supply store. Target, Walmart, OfficeMax/Depot, staples etc.
Also on amazon here uni-ball 207 Retractable Gel Pens, Medium Point, Black, Box of 12 - 33950 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B000FDR47E/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_UXiMDbJDZB2D9
Allow me to blow your mind, they now have erasable pens, and yes they do actually erase!
I too am a huge fan of the G2. Consider a refillable upgrade!
https://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Limited-Retractable-Roller-31536/dp/B00FACLJBM
Pens don't necessarily need to be expensive to be professional. If you want something that has metal construction and writes well, I'd suggest the Pentel Energel Alloy, it has an all-metal body that fits basically any refill you'd like. Other than that, I'd say the Parker Jotter. This is my favorite color, but you can find all variations/combinations of colors, and the refill is universal so anything with that shape can be used.
Field Notes notebook! It's $10 for a 3-pack so really each one is a ~$3 item. I started using/collecting these in 2011 and I never go anywhere without one in my back pocket.
Bonus item: Pilot G-Tec-C pen. Approx. $8 for a 3-pack. Goes anywhere my Field Notes go.
I have to say the Pilot Precise V5 is my go to pen. Does not skip, writes smoothly, don't have to press, doesn't run, and is precise. It's perfect.
My hobby is playing guitar. Favorite movie is Dumb and Dumber. Absolute dream job is being an amazing computer programmer with insane benefits.
Iphone holder,
G2 Pens,
Travel mug
I prefer the Uni-ball Signo 207. It is 0.5mm and consistently lays the perfect amount of ink on the page.
These are what I use! I like them cause you can use water with them to dull the white down. Kind of like a Gouache

you can get one for about $15 off Amazon. Depending on where you live, it might be easier to buy it retail than from someone, because of the shipping costs.
Pilot G-2 in the .038 tip. Color your preference.

By far my favorite pen when I had an office job. Now I only write on duplicate forms so roller balls don't work as well.
There's a Scam School episode that teaches using Frixion pens to do a reveal. Write a prediction on a card and write something else on top/around it as a misdirect or miss, then gently apply fire without actually lighting the card up to reveal the prediction.
I can't post the url to the source because I'm at work, but I'll do it when I get home. Or maybe u/scamschoolbrian would do the honors?
Pilot G2 Limited. Not everyone likes it, but, it's got heft, it's made of metal, comes in some classy colors (mine is gray), and it not only takes Pilot refills, but it takes uniball signo and energel refills too! Same thing goes for the Pilot Dr. Grip. https://www.amazon.com/Pilot-Limited-Retractable-Roller-31536/dp/B00FACLJBM/ref=sr_1_3?crid=1R7A5PL1SNGDL&keywords=g2+limited+pilot+pens&qid=1555522175&s=gateway&sprefix=g2+limi%2Caps%2C255&sr=8-3

Quit squeezing your pen so hard. Really focus on not holding it so tightly.
Try using liquid ink pens (fountain pens are good for this, so are pens like this and experiment with writing without putting pressure on the paper or squeezing the pen. Try holding it [like this.(http://www.fountainpennetwork.com/forum/uploads/monthly_05_2007/post-6336-1179647944.jpg)
Uniball makes a white gel pen that's pretty close. Wait until the fountain pen ink is all the way dry and then just write over it. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B00KK6X7CW/ref=oh_aui_search_detailpage?ie=UTF8&psc=1

I believe that they will fit in a pilot metropolitan gel body. There won't be an eraser though.

I highly suggest These. I pen in all the things that are mostly permanent, then pencil in things that change a lot. it makes erasing a ton easier after a long rest.

I don’t use the key ring knife as much anymore. I used to work in a place where I had to open a lot of boxes with customers around and sometimes people would freak out if they saw a knife. But the SOG micron was small enough that most people wouldn’t notice and if they did it wouldn’t freak them out. That’s why my regular knife is so small too (and because it’s super thin compared to most EDC knives so you don’t feel it at all in your pocket). I used to carry a Kershaw link a lot but that one was big enough that management didn’t like it when I pulled it out in front of customers.
Until you go even thinner to 0.38. It's been so great for my handwriting!
For those who like thinner, try the Pilot G2 0.38, and the Pilot GTEC

This is my goto pen, and I always have a few on hand, as well as others of the Energel brand (some slightly different, with thinner lines, and such).
When they are on sale I stock up as I lose them at work entirely too often.
I want a present!
combs, pens, or gel pens
Happy Birthday

I just now saw this comment. Hopefully you haven't died of old age.
Thank you!
I used a black pilot G2 pen, as I do with most of my doodles. They are kind of expensive, but they last a long time.
This is a very common type of erasable ink that is available in Pilot Friction pens. I have a bunch of them. The pens have a plastic/rubber eraser on the ends, but they don't erase in the usual way. They just rub against the paper such that the friction cause the ink to get warm. I've had notebooks where I left them in a warm car or something and came back to find the notes had disappeared. You can bring back the ink by putting the notes in the fridge or freezer.

I didn't consider tax here, though.
Hard mode should be using Canadian retailers and Canadian dollars. I just used American Amazon here.

This pen takes the G2 Refill, it's by Pilot as well.
Is it this pen from amazon? Is this a good cheap pen for noobs to practice with handwriting?
I’d agree with this, but even the standard Pentel Energel Alloy RT would meet this standard as well! They’re generally inexpensive, with decent barrels that last for quite a while. The refills also fit in other bodies you may prefer, such as the Zebra Sarasa clip bodies! They’re quick drying, difficult to smear, and tend not to skip. Unless if your paper is extraordinarily thin, it shouldn’t bleed either!
A Pilot G-2, it's an excellent pen, very smooth. One thing you can do is turn it into a Montblanc ballpoint by buying the MontBlanc ballpoint refills. They slide right in!
Another one is the Pilot Precise V5, not a ballpoint, but a rollerball. Basically a fountain pen without the nice nib, and without the cleaning. I think they come in various sizes but the one I have is in EF
Hi, I use the Uni-ball UM 153 Signo Broad Point Gel Pen, white although I will soon start also using the Uni Pc-1MR Posca Marker Ultra Fine White once I purchase it since the pen I currently use does not spread too well on some work.
My pen
Pilot Precise V5 Extra Fine Point
See if you can find these. Works for my US charts, at least.

You can't go wrong with a Pilot Precise V5.
Dawg, that tip is so fat. If u want to write small you go with ultra-fine point 0.38 :

Made the mistake of getting back in to the NBA while writing my MS thesis. Do yourself a favor and disconnect yourself from the internet.
p.s. These are still my favorite.

If you want to do this
I had a first time mother at the hospital today who was getting discharged but was going to have to leave her baby overnight due to being jaundice. She was so incredibly sad about this. Right before she was set to be discharged I ran the TC Billi test one more time and his level had dropped.I practically ran to her room to tell her the good news and she broke down crying with tears of pure happiness.
It absolutely made my entire day and all I could do was smile for the rest of clinicals :)
These pens would make charting so much easier because my others die all the time.
