Well, composites will outlast you. They will be the last deck you ever buy.
Mold is an environmental issue. You need to keep the deck well lit and dry. Otherwise, you will need to use a mold killer on a seasonal basis.
The way I remove old deck boards is to cit across them with a circular saw, then peel them up with The Beast:

It is a demolition tool on steroids. Yes, some screws get left behind. Nothing that cannot be handled with an angle grinder and a carbide blade. They don't have a chance.....
