Main issues: 1) furniture layout, 2) couch cover, 3) color theme/decor, and 4) ceiling light.

  1. Here is my guess at your current layout. It's not very balanced and all pushed on one wall. The radiator is also a bit of a challenge because you probably don't want to put anything in front of it. I would replace the shelf with something skinnier and taller, maybe a ladder shelf, and use the cabinet as a side table to the couch, which then would let you move the desk further down the wall, like so (could also add a chair to the desk).

  2. I don't know if it's to protect the couch or if the couch is just in poor condition, but using a real couch cover instead of a blanket would help. Maybe a light grey or white.

  3. Black, brown, and beige is a kinda meh color theme. I would choose 1 or 2 colors you like and add accents that contain those colors. To make it easy, lets go with blue. Get a couple solid blue or patterned throw pillows for the couch. A couple plants around the room (shelf, side table, coffee table, tv console) would really liven the place up, but also think about colorful vases or statues or lamps. A nice lamp on the side table would be nice (check local thrift stores for a good deal). Get at least 1 large picture/painting (or could be a multi-panel piece) above the couch and one on the wall to the left of the couch. Could be something simple and abstract or nature or prints or a mirror. Use them as a place to add color and personal style. (Maybe an elevated crazy dog lady piece lol.) You could also do a rug under the couch and coffee table, but it's not necessary.

  4. The light could be a major statement or more subtle. Having other lamps in the room would help with overall lighting. A walk through your local home improvement store may be helpful in finding what you like, but here are some directions you could go in: fancy/formal feeling light, modern and geometric, home-y, ceiling fan, simple and understated.

ok so thoughts. These are not room design just beginning things. It’ll also be some things I’ve used while decorating. It looks like there are good thrift stores. New2you, St Vincent DePaul, Habitat for humanity Restore. Rules? Things are what you make them (except a bed can’t be a tv yet). So that entertainment center might make a nice cabinet for clothes. It might look nice painted. Standing tall mirrors can add depth. You can drape twinkle lights over them. Just know the light you want pure white (which can sometimes seem harsh) or yellow. Thrift stores or places like tj maxx have big mirrors. Use lamps to add light. A tip on lamps. Dollar tree sells cute round decorative boxes in different sizes. You can stack them and put the lamp on top. If cats tend to knock things over just hot glue the boxes together. Organizing boxes? Check cigar shops. Many times there are gorgeous wooden boxes after all the cigars cell that are good for small storage. Using command strips you could hang lights around the headboard of the bed or even from the ceiling if you go with twinkle lights. I’m just thinking more homey and inviting. Plants if you like them. With Christmas coming many upgrade cat trees. You might want to get a used one for the kitties. This is what I mean by couch draping cover. I used to share a room with my sister that was about the same amount of concentration of stuff on my side of the room. As many have said, I would highly, *highly* suggest that you take everything out of your room and getting rid of anything you feel you can. You have all the staples of what you need for your own space (couch, bed, closet, vanity table, entertainment center), but you have a lot of things that are crowding that up.

After that, you can go over the things you have left and keep going through them until you have a manageable amount.

As far as the couch goes (I'm not too much of a fan of the design, either) you can cover it with a couch cover. While not ideal, it would likely take over the design. Here's an example (you can find better designs). In addition, if they don't like that you are covering it, you can simply say you are keeping it in good condition.

It seems that the cocca-cola sign appears to be metal. If it is, you can try covering it with a poster held by magnets. If not, you might be able to move one of your tapestries to cover it. This would likely eliminate the majority of the design.

As far as the TV goes- can you move it, or remove it? If so, you may be able to find a working one at a local thrift store for relatively cheap. If not, a freecycle program if you are in the U.S. might provide you an opportunity to get a working one.

Beyond that, I strongly, strongly agree in getting sheets if at all possible. If you have to prioritize, a fitted sheet would likely be the best investment, both in comfort and style. Here's an example of one from Walmart.

Good on you for taking the time to invest in your life in such a way. It's difficult, but well worth it to do it.

u/Lily_Roza · 2 pointsr/HomeDecorating

OP, Look in your clothes closet and linen closet for colors you think might work, fold the jacket or towel into the shape of the pillow you want, and compare color combinations. If you plan to add a rug, choose the rug first. Usually a rug, or woven mat, ties together all the seating in a conversational grouping.

It's hard to choose a color, only seeing the floor and chair and wall. The rest of the room affects how that chair looks. You might want to choose a color that is already in use in the room.

That chair is really really cool, i love it. But the green pea color doesn't particularly appeal to me, at least as it appears on my tablet. I''d like to see how the chair ties in with the look in the rest of the room. If the color isn't ideal, it would be a pretty simple solution to buy or make a washable slip cover for the chair or find a seamstress that will do it reasonably.

You could just use a strip of material which is a partial cover from top to bottom, a strip of the green would show on each side, the effect would be similar to the first linked photo. The second link is to a washable slip cover, you might find one like it that fits. They are inexpensive, and you can find a seamstress to easily modify it to fit perfectly, mif needed. Please post an update so we can see what you decided to do. Please, does anyone ever do that on these decor subs? Think of all the karma!

I think that if they work with your color scheme, this can actually be a blessing in disguise! I think with table cloths and decorations everything will come together. Before you splurge on all of your table covers, buy the smallest amount possible, preferably 1, and test it. The red is fairly dark, you want to make sure it doesn't show through a light cover.

Another good thing about these chairs is that you can easily loop a bow or flower swag through the top part. Something like this or any of these ideas could look really beautiful with the chairs! This is a great example of a dining room with red chairs that looks really nice!

You actually have a right setup of the sofa and the tv. Just need a little make over.

  1. For the sofa, why not add some cover? to add an accent like this one.
  2. Put some rugs, a white or grey rug would be great just like this.
  3. The bookshelf, you can put it in the corner. (I can't actually see what's on the other side of the photo so I can't suggest moving it) Then paint it white to lessen darkness of the space, put some succulent plants, books and some small frames and arrange it like this.
  4. Remove the blue and black storage. (Is that a storage?) you can put them away or in your kitchen.
  5. Then the wall will leave blank, you can hang some wall art on it. Wall Art of your choice or what you love (characters, nature, flowers) I've found some elegant wall arts here.
  6. The room is dark, I think you need to add some light above the tv and I suggest adding a wallpaper to add some accent coz the room is kinda bald and dark. You can get your idea here.

I hope it helps you. ;) It's just my suggestion by the way. \^_\^

So I have 2 very hairy dogs that jump around and fight me and their other pet parent for the couch nonstop. Since we knew this when buying a couch, we did a ton of shopping around. I love Ikea but not a single couch was comfy, big, and also dog friendly. Why compromise ya know? We happily ended up with an affordable long sofa (not a forever piece of furniture) that has a chaise lounge so the dogs have a "section" too. Not that it stops them from taking over the whole thing, but it helps. Also, the pillows are not attached so the covers can be washed which is not as common as I expected for some reason. Here's what we got on a fantastic sale and a 25% coupon:

http://www.worldmarket.com/mobile/search.do?query=abbott%20sofa&keyword=abbott%20sofa

Also, the store delivers it all built so just attach legs then decide which side you prefer the ottoman and attach to couch if you like. We also got two reversible covers to change up the color scheme since I get tired of the gray and also, dog hair reasons. It's hard to find the right size cover for a long sofa with a chaise but this one gets really close and I put a little blanket on the end of the chaise to cover fully.

Personally I cant recommend you a chair set but I can definately tell you how to get the most out of your chairs now or your future ones.

As the parent of a toddler these are a life saver:

TIKAMI Dining Room Spandex Stretch Printed Chair Slipcovers (4, Gold Flower) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01A6J6JD6/ref=cm_sw_r_other_apa_u9b1xbADKZBED

My chairs are solid wood and have fabric on the seat. My toddler has sticky fingers and cleaning the chairs every meal is a bitch.

These protect my chairs and keep them looking nice until I trust my kid not to ruin them.

Also machine washable and amazon prime free returns? Yes please.

I'm so sorry about your buddy's wings, that is awful. Wonderful, though, that he has you now!

So, I'm all about making things for my tiel, including ways to give him freedom around the house. I've made (and bought) some bird ladders to help him get different places (out of his cage, up the side of his cage, up to my desk, onto the couch, etc.)

http://imgur.com/gallery/scdYx7I

The image is a playground I put together, that also helps him get up to my desk.

To protect my couch:

Sammy poops all over it, and I just toss it in the wash, its awesome!

Edit: I hit post mid sentence

  1. he needs to clean that box 1 to 2 times daily. Cats won't use dirty boxes. Having a second box may help but must be cleaned daily. Or get an automatic litter box cleaner

  2. Half water half vinger solution in a spray bottle will remove smells from fabric and carpet. Spray the house down. It will smell like vinegar until it dries. Then no smell.

  3. Get a cheap couch or futon and a sofa cover if they pee on the cover you can put it in the washing machine with any laundry detergent and a half a cup of vinegar.

  4. Spay and neutering cats can reduce kitty smell because makes have a habit of marking their territory.

  5. Kitty might have a urinary tract infection. Will pee everywhere until treated.

  6. Cat litter deodorizer can help out tremendously.

I think the idea of making individual cushion covers is excellent!

Or, try something like this? Maybe you could use two of them to cover the entire couch

I don't know if you'd consider a gift card towards a larger gift. I just picked out a slipcover for my mom. My dad died two months ago yesterday and I have been spending hours at a time cleaning their house (they both have serious hoarding issues). and I'd love to give her ugly old loveseat a pick-me-up.

Thank you for the contest!

u/Cupcakehorrrors · 5 pointsr/malelivingspace

I think the color of the wood goes really well with the black accent wall, and the other pieces are a bit more neutral. There is apparently such a thing as a headboard slipcover, basically a fabric bag for just the headboard. It seems like something you could make on the cheap if you are a bit handy, otherwise one
two.

u/Chickenfat67 · 1 pointr/HelpMeFind

I searched "stretch armless sofa slipcover" and found this. There are plenty more brands, colors and even prints available and all pretty inexpensive. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B076KP5RC5/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awdb_t1_AQXNBbERMF2KA

We use futon covers for all of our futons (from Japan). Something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B015QJFPBS/ref=twister_B015QJPDJM?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 You could also sew two sheets together on 3 sides and put some buttons on the 4th side.

Depending on the shape of your chair legs, I put these on my chairs to protect my floors.

This one here is the one i got about a year ago, i not longer have cats so I'm not sure how it will hold up against them. Regardless i think it looks better than having a ripped up chair.
