Personally, I'd say search through thrift stores for LPs and even a Turntable. I got my record player from a thrift store for $10 and it works amazingly, has for about a year now, the most maintenance I've had to do is buy a new drive belt and a preamp so I could actually turn it up to proper volume (all that was about a $60 total). I can't guarantee the same luck with you of course. But that's always the option if you want to go cheap and don't have much of a preference. There's also the internet of course too.

For records, again thrift stores are great. They're usually only a $1 a record. You will see A LOT of repeats in a thrift store record collection, but if you take the time to sort through it, you can find great things. Also the internet is a great way to finding local stores around you and a great way to buy records. I live in Massachusetts, and I buy a great bulk of records from Newbury Comics, seeing as it's closest to me and one of the very few places that has them around me. Buying directly from whatever artist you want also works, it's reliable AND you're directly supporting them and you can also get some pretty cool bundles and deals too! I also recommend Kung Fu Nation if you like any of the bands they support they usually sell LPs of albums they've released.

As for equipment, just find a reliable pair of speakers, I suggest buying a preamp (this is the one I bought and it's amazing. And when it comes to your turntable just be sure to keep everything in proper running order and maintain it.

I hope this helps, happy hunting!

I bought the Spigen Liquid Air, which protects the whole watch body. I really like it because the watch body is protected without appearing bulky. I didn't buy a screen protector, but the IQ Shield is very popular. Note: The Spigen doesn't have edges raised high enough. So if on a rare occasion, I were to lie my watch face down, then my screen would definitely touch the surface.

Download the Galaxy Wearable app as well as the Watch Active2 Plugin from the Play Store. You'll need these, at the very least, when pairing your phone and your smartwatch. When setting up your watch, go through each and every possible setting through both, the app and the watch itself. On the app, I haven't found a way to enable the PIN security, but I was able to through the phone with some exploration. I adjusted the settings to help preserve battery life, like turning off the Always-On Display (AOD), being picky about which phone apps I wanted to receive notifications on my watch, adjusting the heart rate monitor to only check manually, adjusting brightness, etc. Flossy Carter on YouTube posted a nice review and setup process of the watch.

As ThatFoxyThing said, the watch's keyboard is a T9. I like it because it felt nostalgic, but I can understand why others wouldn't. I don't know if there's a keyboard watch app to download as a remedy if you don't like the T9 setup.

I've experienced a few connection issues with Spotify before, but it has since been resolved so far. The app is great now for me.

I bought my 46mm LTE about 2 months ago ($380 brand new from Amazon). Prior to getting it, I purchased the Active 2 44mm to try it out since it was the newer watch. It's a very nice watch, and not to knock it, but I really didn't like the way it looked. It's a bit on the feminine side and just looks odd. I returned it the next day solely based off its design.

I have since purchased a Ringke bezel for my 46mm...it looked awesome to begin with, but the silver bezel just puts it over the top.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07LGVRPP3/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_Jc01DbQDW6JXV

I run 5 miles a day with it, and workout at the gym. It records (almost) everything perfectly. Plus, even with LTE on I get outstanding battery life. So not only is it a great looking watch, it is equally a great fitness tracker.

Honestly, this little piece of tech is one of the best purchases I've made in a long time.

u/tiggyspawn · 2 pointsr/vinyl

Yes, you'll be able to play modern records on old turntables. All records, old and new, run at standardised speeds of 33 or 45 rpm. They're clearly marked on each LP, and you should switch the speed on the controls of your turntable.

Normally when you have a turntable connected to an amplifier, the amplifier MUST have a phono input, otherwise you need to use an external phono pre-amp (They're really cheap - something like this is fine: http://amzn.to/17VJtnt). Old "receivers" or expensive home theatre hi-fi Amps almost always do, but lots of cheaper stereos don't. Sometimes, the turntable has an in-built pre-amp. This means that it does not matter what kind of amplifier/receiver you hook it up to.

I'm not familiar enough with turntables to recommend very many, but I have a NAD c556 (identical to the Rega RP1) which I love, and goes for about $500.
One of the most popular turntables on this site is the ProJect Debut Carbon. It's also great, but doesn't come with a dust cover, which is an absolute must in my opinion (I have one and it's always covered in dust - I can't imagine what my platter would be like if the cover wasn't there!)

Depending on your budget, it can be a good idea to buy a second hand turntable. If you buy a used turntable, you should probably replace the stylus, because you can't be sure how old it is. Old needles in poor condition will permanently damage your records! Great turntables can often (and sometimes speakers) be found quite cheaply at goodwill, or garage sales.

It's also a good idea to get a brush to get dust of your records, and a cork mat, which will help prevent the build up of static, but these aren't essential to making the turntable actually work!

Finally, don't worry if it makes you look like a wanker - You don't have to be an audiophile to buy/collect vinyl, and if you like it, then that's all that matters!

I would definitely use a screen protector. Not everyone likes cases, but I do and here's my favorites. I think the S3 is the same size as the S2, so they should fit the S3 I hope.

Skinomi screen protector from amazon:
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01H7WV1QU/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_bScCzb9QMKFDX

Great case, but it's bulky. It has a raised edge that MIGHT protect the screen a little, but I don't trust it so I still use a screen protector.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01N0QYUR4/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_USlEzbKN82J81

Had this one for a few months and they're great. They snap on easily and are tight and secure. Made of hard plastic type material.

I wanted one that was gray to match my space gray watch better. They are really form fitting and thin and barely stick out from the watch at all. Made of rubbery TPU material.

I have a similar one to your 2nd example. The Spigen Tough Armor. It includes a built-in screen protector. It's working well so far.

I also considered your first example, but was concerned that it might scratch the watch after sliding it on/off repeatedly.

I don't really like the look of screen protectors as I can usually see the edges and, IMO, they take away from the look of the device and screen quality. I also don't want to have my watch in a case full time. However, I wanted something to protect my watch when working in the yard, on the car, etc. This case was the best I could find to protect both the screen and the watch. It's fairly easy to put on/take off. It looks good enough that I could leave it on for a quick trip in to town if I didn't want to bother taking it off right away.

I could not find many options that included the built in screen protection. I wish I could find something comparable that would not require me to remove the band to install/uninstall .
I would also like to have one that was easy to install/uninstall and covered the digital crown to keep out dust when mowing, etc.

u/ekeen1 · 1 pointr/AppleWatch

The general attitude towards cases on this sub is generally no, but given certain environments I can see why it's a good idea.

Unless you're going swimming (full watch submersion for long periods of time), you probably won't need the catalyst case for the Apple Watch.

For rough physical environments, I recommend using something like this Spigen case. You'll save a great deal of cash compared to the catalyst but also have adequate impact protection.

u/_Kill_Will_ · 2 pointsr/GalaxyWatch

For an active setting I like MD 153 or SportMinimalLite, and for a more professional look I like AS_Watch_Mod or X2 Viron.

Barton makes the absolute best silicone strap, it has a curve on each strap that makes it more comfortable for a larger wrist.
https://www.amazon.com/Barton-Elite-Silicone-Watch-Bands/dp/B07B5M91V7/ref=mp_s_a_1_5?keywords=barton+galaxy+watch+46mm+bands&qid=1567896574&s=gateway&sprefix=Barton+Galaxy+watch&sr=8-5

I went this route for a more professional look. Also a bezel cover looks great in any setting. https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B07HQ8NSRX?psc=1&ref=ppx_pop_mob_b_asin_title

u/muchoDaenero · 8 pointsr/GalaxyWatch

I got my Active one of these and I've really liked it so far. Had it since May and feels like it does a pretty good protecting from accidental brushes against a wall or whatnot.
It completely covers the buttons, so hopefully will help avoid what happened to OP (sorry OP, that sucks).

Doesn't detract from the look of the watch either (at least with my black version) -- honestly I think it makes the watch look better.

u/explosivo563 · 1 pointr/vinyl

I have seen the Grado black recommended, but it's probably outside my price range for my first upgrade, as it's worth more than what I paid for the TT. I also read that conical is better for older records, because an elliptical would make the pops and clicks louder, is that true? I just started so I don't have many new records yet, but I plan to. And yeah, I just got the Pyle as a stop gap until I can afford something better. I also looked at the TCC Preamp, is the ART still preferred? Thanks.

EDIT: My setup is a yamaha 3066 (aka 375) receiver, Micca MB42X speakers and an andrew jones sub.

u/ColoradoDennis · 5 pointsr/AppleWatch

My Smiling brand bumper + screen protector has served me very well in the gritty, sand-blast environment of riding a recumbent trike (the watch is 10-12” above the pavement and 2-3” from the right front tire). It lasts 3-6 months before needing replacement but protects my watch very well. It is, however, a “soft” case and might not withstand your work environment. It can be seen here:
https://amazon.com/Smiling-Apple-Watch-Screen-Protector/dp/B07JZ69XJ9/
Good luck in finding something that will work for you.

u/[deleted] · 1 pointr/vinyl

Thanks for the response!~

Now, is there any particular brand of p-mount cartridge you recommend? Are there any tools I will need to install the cartridge? And I was looking at amplifiers on line (before your comment was posted) and I came across this "TCC TC-750 BLACK Audiophile Phono Preamp" which seems to have gotten pretty good reviews. However would it still be more advantageous to get a vintage amp? Would it wind up costing less?

u/jpyounis1 · 1 pointr/AppleWatch

agreed, had a gshock aviator before. I use it caseless with a zagg shield on the screen i had them put on in the local mall. looks like new, i swap the silicone bands often tho. Seems to hold up well. i'd probably recommend something like the case my friend has below, if your in a foot pursuit prone area or generally rough area.

My buddy works in another dept and has this rugged armor case on it: http://www.amazon.com/Apple-Watch-Spigen-Rugged-Resilient/dp/B00UVSNQPM/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1465247925&sr=8-3&keywords=apple+watch+case

u/OJNeg · 2 pointsr/audiophile

Vintage turntable: $100

Cartridge: $60 Other good options exist

Basic phono stage: $50

Headphones: $100 Headphones are hard to recommend, but the entry-level Grados are considered good bang-for-buck by most. If you want better sound, spend more on the headphones.

Headphone amp:
This is headphone specific. You probably don't need one. Build yourself a Cmoy if anything.

u/KnottyOwl · 1 pointr/AppleWatch

I'm a nurse and want to wear mine at work. I just got my Apple Watch Sport and I'm worried about scratching it by bumping it on someone's bed rail or something, so I ordered a screen protector from Amazon and also some bumpers for the face to change up the color and add some protection from scuffs. I also got apple care. I may be being too cautious, but I rarely spend $350 on an accessory so you're damn right I'm gonna baby it!

Edit: This is the screen protector I ordered. I haven't received it yet but it offers edge to edge protection and seemed to have mostly positive reviews.

These are the bumpers I got. I thought they'd add a little extra protection and plus it'll be fun to switch up the colors and match them with different bands.

u/aspiniou · 2 pointsr/vinyl

Hey! I'm going to get an AT 120 LP. I have a question - can i buy passive speakers, if I'm also going to buy this TCC TC-750 Phono Preamp. Do i also need to buy a large amplifier in order for this all to work?

Turntable -> TCC Phono Preamp -> PASSIVE powered speakers = is it everything i need for the music to play? Please help me out, i looked for so long and it's still really confusing to me. Thanks a million.

u/livingspeedbump · 1 pointr/vinyl

Well you would plug the record player into the "input" of the preamp, and them from the output of the preamp you would go into any "input" of the Yamaha. So CD, AUX would be a good bet. And then yes, after speakers, you are good to go.

Here is a phono preamp for even cheaper. ;)

I just picked up the S4 SS 44mm. I work in an industrial setting so I need to have a case on my Apple Watch. These two fit the bill and look pretty good considering. I didn’t wear a case on my Series 0 SS 42mm and it got pretty beat up on the SS. It never got a scratch on the face so I’m not too worried about that but I want to protect the SS from scuffs this time around.

I’ve been using this case since I got my watch series 3 when it came out last year. Got this after I shattered my Apple Watch 2 after knocking it on a door handle in the OR. I can’t even tell it’s there. it’s easy to clean and protects the entire Watch face. I’ve wiped it with purple tops, bleach, hydrogen peroxide, alcohol preps, etc.

Hey guys! I've been lurking this subreddit since I picked up my first record a couple months ago. Since then, I've been researching budget turntables, and decided to buy this https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01F2B3FKI/ref=twister_B01KI5736U?_encoding=UTF8&psc=1 turntable and this https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000A36LQ4/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1 pre-amp.
I went scouring the pawn shops today and came across this http://imgur.com/a/2Lt0j amplifier. I liked the look of it, and figured you couldn't really go wrong with an '89 or '90 Kenwood amp. I took it home for $50, and realized there is no volume control! Apparently this model (KM-208) was originally sold with a pre-amp that had all of the volume controls. I have 30 days to return it, but if possible, I wouldn't mind rigging up a volume dial. Is this amp worth the work, or should I return it? As of now I don't have any speakers, but I'm willing to spend up to $250ish. I'm also considering building my own with the same budget.

TL;DR I'm new to vinyl ad so far have collected a TT, a pre-amp, and would like your opinion on the amp I bought.

Thanks for reading. I'm looking forward to your feedback!

u/e60deluxe · 2 pointsr/techsupport

you can buy a USB pre amp, which would be much better than buying a USB turntable.

but honestly, just buy a pre amp, possibly retip or replace your cartridge, new belt, whatever get it up to good condition.

http://www.amazon.com/dp/B000A36LQ4/

this is for moving magnet cartridges. if the turntable wasnt very high end this is probably what you need.

u/xultar · 1 pointr/AppleWatch

I love this case. No branding. Not too bulky.

I love it on my AW S4 44 SBSS. It keeps me worry free when doing yard work. I also tend to bump my arm into everything.

I could be completely wrong here, but the case in the photo appears to be the [Speck](Speck Products CandyShell Fit Case for Apple Watch 42mm, Black/Slate Grey https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XEGT3GY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_-h5ezbXVZFSPS) case. I have both, but I'm pretty sure the one in your photos is Speck, not Spigen.

(Not trying to be abrasive, just pointing it out.)

u/Gregory-76 · 1 pointr/AppleWatch

Ooh really that’s funny. I do the same. I don’t mix concrete much but I wouldn’t want it in my watch. If I were you I’d maybe get a small case. I don’t like them but it helps.

My case got all jacked up. https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07JZ69XJ9/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_i2rVCbNA3BF5F

u/firitheryn · 1 pointr/audiophile

I just found this. I'm pretty sure it's for line level input, so you would need any basic phono stage to input to it. I've heard people talk about this one, it gets fairly positive reviews.

u/ObservationSlave · 1 pointr/vinyl

Thanks for the response. I understand the questions were a little...stupid, and I appreciate you taking the time to answer them. If you don't mind answering another....

As far as a pre-amp, I'm trying to decide between this or this. Have you heard anything about these? Something else you recommend?

u/ehampshire · 8 pointsr/vinyl

If it's your first TT and you're just getting started, /r/vinyl recommends this one. I've been happy with mine, although I do plan to upgrade in the future. If your budget is a little higher, I've heard good things about this one.

The one I plan on eventually getting is this guy.

u/ChadAndreo · 2 pointsr/AppleWatch

The helpful suggestion above looks very special ed. I guess its one of those "eye of the beholder" things. Thanks for your feedback.

I have seen enough Apple watches in subpar condition. Just because its an Apple product, doesnt mean its indestructible.

They come in a whole set, but I just use the black one. I'm constantly bumping my hands into things and wanted to protect my watch. It's done a great job, I have broken one and reordered to get another black one.

My friends is an airplane mechanic and uses an Apple Watch with a protective case. He's banged it up quite a bit and hasn't had any issues.

I'm pretty sure he has this one:

Cases get a lot of hate on this sub, but it’s your watch and you should wear it how you choose. I’ve used the Spigen Rugged Armor since getting my watch at Christmas and I like it. I personally do not think it adds any noticeable bulk to the watch. I originally had the case + band model, but the band didn’t fit my wrist very well so I got the case only and have been wearing it with the black Apple Sport Band the watch came with.

u/one4u2nv · 1 pointr/AppleWatch

I use this case and this band on my S0 when I'm doing more active things currently. Most other times I just have it naked. I'll use the same on my S3 if it ever finally comes (thanks a lot Best Buy).

I would get the Spigen Rugged Armour case 38mm/42mm and it's apparently it's got impact protection and is made of soft TPU that should protect the aluminium.

The reason I recommend this is because I have used Spigen cases on phones in the past and they don't scratch the devices from my experience. Some clear cases are subject to yellowing due to exposure from the sun.

https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00XEGT3GY/ref=cm_sw_r_sms_awdb_NNksyb3H90Q7J

It does add a noticeable amount of bulk to the watch and at times could pinch the skin on the top of my wrist. They were only around $15 when I purchased them but the seem to have gone up since then. I eventually got tired of messing with them and stopped wearing them. YMMV but I honestly can't recommend this product unless you find it cheaper maybe or find it in a store to try out first. I got the 38mm LTE series 3 in silver aluminum with applecare. I put a screen protector and case on regardless of which model because they all scratch. If you’re concerned about shattering from impact or bumps then definitely go with the aluminum and save some cash.

These are not perfect. They get dirty and scratched easily. And one of my two makes the screen a little less responsive in one corner. But they are easy to remove, affordable, and have a minimal impact on the size/shape of the watch.

I've got the 'Skinomi Apple Watch Series 4 Screen Protector', both on my 44mm and my Wife's 40mm series 4. Work like a champ. I also have the Spigen Rugged Armor case on order, it should be delivered here in a few days. That along with apple care, should all but a car wreck, protect it!

I work out with a SS Apple Watch. I would recommend another app like Gymaholic to track progress, reps, etc. And if you are worried about your watch there's this protector for it.

I wouldn’t dare edc my Apple Watch without some form of protection, main reason is because I accidentally hit my previous edc watch on the corner of my marble countertop and I’ve been paranoid ever since. You’re wild for running a spartan race without protection LOL.

And the reason I carried fmj its difficult for me to acquire special ammo like hp so I figured it’s better than nothing, but luckily I recently found a seller of 45 hp so I’ve taken the liberty of loading my mags with those.

I have the older version of this case. It will withstand whatever you throw at. The old model came with two screen protectors and that's what I put on it. The case is a little bulky but it looks good and it matches the black sports band.

This band is quite comfortable, but I may switch out to the black leather one. Installing the band was an exercise of frustration - following the V-Moro install video didn't help at all, and I spent about half an hour trying to get the bands to fit. I finally got them on by installing them "backwards." Instead of doing the normal way of putting on the non-lever side first than fiddling with the pin to get it in, I installed it lever side first, then used a 1/16 jeweler's flathead screwdriver to pop the other side in. Worked soooo much easier.

I've worn G-Shocks most of my life. I iust love how bulky they are. I highly recommend Spigen! The case is sold separately from the band but I have piece of mind when wearing it. My only real complaint about it is that the band requires a bit of dexterity to securely fasten. Nothing a little practice won't fix.

You could skip the receiver in general if your only input is turntable by buying a turntable pre-amp like this http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000A36LQ4/ref=as_li_ss_tl?ie=UTF8&tag=googlcom05-20&linkCode=as2&camp=217145&creativeASIN=B000A36LQ4
Otherwise, I guess I'd do as DrGrinch recommended and use the tape/monitor out on the receiver.

Hi there, complete newbie here, just ordered a JVC AL-F3 automatic table for my first one. They said it comes with an Audio Technica SLT88E needle/cartridge. I just had a few questions/reassurances from the beginner's guide.

I assume I will need to get a new platter(I think that's what they are called?, the thing that goes below the record)

Do I have to get a new cartridge right away?

I was looking for a preamp for it, was thinking this maybe? Any other recommendations? https://www.amazon.com/TC-750-Audiophile-Phono-Pre-amp-Preamplifier/dp/B000A36LQ4/ref=pd_bbs_sr_1?ie=UTF8&s=electronics&qid=1198035223&sr=8-1&tag=Audioreview-VigLink-Convert-20

also if anybody then had some passive speaker recommendations, something cheap preferred

u/Cuddles6505 · 1 pointr/audio

you can look for an amplifier that supplie phono power which is required to boost the audio signal from the needle or with out it you can use one of these
signal flow would be turntable -> Phono Preamp -> amplifier (rca Cables for all connections)

It's for the original GWA, but the 40mm GWA2 is identical. They don't have a 44mm version though (yet)

u/anon-na · 1 pointr/AppleWatch

Yeah, this one. Series 1 and 2 are same form factor, so there is no variance in case size/ shape between watch series. You have to use the screen protector that comes with it, though. Any other screen protector that wraps the edges will not work with the case. Just a heads up ;)

u/robotmaxtron · 1 pointr/headphones

No, you can't simply connect the RCA cable to the turntable and the crack, phono voltage out is below 'line level' amounts.

To mirror what /u/andrews013 said, yes the aune is probably the weakest point of your stack. If you want to improve your setup, sell the Aune, buy a proper phono pre-amp such as:

TCC TC-750

Rega Fono Mini (which does have a USB output)

Bugle2

or several others & for dac suggestions I'd probably go with either a Schiit Modi, Henry Audio DAC or JDSLabs Standalone ODAC,

u/Umlautica · 3 pointsr/audiophile

Most turntables (including yours) output phono-level and need a preamp to convert to line-level using a phono preamp (like this). Some older receivers have one built into an input labeled phono.

I use the TC-750 for, you input the two phono ports from the turntable and the output can be connected to the normal AUX or CD line-in on the back of the receiver.

This is the product from Ringke. I can take a shot from an angle later today. It does not look obvious that it is a stick on accessory. In fact when I show my watch to other people, they can never tell it is a separate accessory.
