I'm sure you'll be fine, again, he just commented, didn't actually offer any resistance to the notion.

Yeah, for my wisdom teeth I did full anesthesia. Couldn't drive, and the video I shot while my fiancee drove us home was hilarious.

I was told during the consultation that I should be able to drive after the operation, and it really wasn't an issue, since it was just local numbing. But again, the pain killers started wearing off an hour after their initial injection, so don't plan on running errands or anything after it.

The pressure REALLY wasn't that bad. Take a testicle, place it between your fingers, squeeze a little bit (maybe just on the edge of pain) and roll it around. That's it, really not bad. Again, worst part was just the injection, which I would relate to the feeling of a tetanus shot. A prick, then a slight burning sensation as the stuff enters. The after-ache basically just feels like I accidentally smacked my balls. All the time. If you don't move around much, it's actually pretty easy to ignore, but expect to lay on the couch for a while. Moving is a chore.

Well, time to ice my balls. I love that I can set multiple timers on my phone, comes in real handy.

Edit: Also, don't be an idiot like me and forget to get ice packs until you go to pick up your drugs. I'm sure I paid a hefty premium for buying them at a drugstore vs Walmart. My doctor recommended the use of this jock strap. I'm sure any one will do, but I didn't own one, and the pouch of this one is huge to fit all the ice I could ever want into it. The ice packs I bought are 9.25x4.125" and it fits perfectly.

Also, if you're interested, these were my discharge instructions.

Sup y'all? Hopefully I'm not too late to get a response. I'm looking at taking some cheap drop crotch shorts I got from urban outfitters a while back and replacing the short black drawstring with a long white one that I'm going to buy online. I've found a few drawstring options that I think could work, but I've never actually seen pod shirts up close so I'm not sure what the drawstring actually looks like. For anyone who owns or has seen pod shorts in person, is the drawstring flat and thick or is it thick and rounded like a hoodie drawstring?

Here is the rounded drawstring option that is typically used in BJJ Gi pants.
Those seem like a good fit if the pod shorts use a rounded drawstring, but the shipping is killing me at $11 an order, and bundling the order doesn't reduce the shipping. I figured ordering three of them from the same spot would be $11, but they charge an additional $11 for each one ordered. Stupid, I know. Next up, is this thick flat drawstring. It seems like it would be a good fit as well, but I'm not sure which of the two drawstrings would look more authentic. I'm not trying to pass the DIY shorts off as authentic Rick, but I'd like for them to look as legit as I can for the limited budget I'm working with. I'm open to other suggestions and ideas. If anyone has done something similar or can help out in anyway that would be great. Thanks guys!

I've got a few "bang for the buck" gis, so maybe my feedback will help you:

  • Tatami Nova Basic ($90 from amazon) : I bought this based off of slideyfoot's review (see sidebar) and the fact that I needed a belt. I was concerned about shrinkage so I went a size up and the gi didn't shrink that much, so the gi is fairly baggy on me. Outside of the sizing, which is clearly my own fault, I think the Tatami is a fantastic value. It doesn't get coarse after drying like some gis, and it's a fairly neutral weight (not heavy but not light). I'm also prone to sweat a lot and I notice that it doesn't stretch very much when wet unlike some of my other gi's.

  • 93 Brands Goose Grey ($100 from BJJHQ, $139 from rollmore.com) : I waited for this one to come around on BJJHQ as opposed to paying the full price and I'm glad I waited. While this is the gi that gets me the most compliments at my gym, I also think it's the one that is the most disappointing. It has weird creases around seems and has had quite a bit of fraying/loose threads after only a handful of washes. Regardless of how I dry it, the gi looks wrinkled and every time I wear it I feel like I look as if I were the guy who just pulled his gi out of the trunk of his car. I don't think that 93 brand products should be sworn off per se, I just wouldn't go with grey, opt for the basic white instead.

  • Padilla and Sons Lightweight Gi ($95 from Padilla and Sons website) : I will tell you that this thing is a tank, but do NOT let the name fool you -- it is not light weight. The pants are 12 oz twill cotton and by far the heaviest pants of all of my gis. I've had to use this one sparingly as the Texas summer heat starts cranking up. When I do get to roll in it, I love it. I've started mixing the gi top with other bottoms in order to wear the top because it is fantastic. If this one had come with lightweight ripstop pants, it would likely be go-to gi. Bonus points: freakin' sharks man!

  • RedStar Comp 500 Navy ($99 during pre-order special): this one is somewhere between Canada and my house right now as well. If the gi is even close to as good as people say, it will also be a steal at the pre-order price of $99. I'll have to report back on that one...

My fiancé loves his Mooto Extera - material is very light. It runs a little large, so if your current uniform has room, I’d suggest sizing down. It looks like 170 is currently out of stock in amazon uk, but I assume it probably come back.
https://www.amazon.co.uk/Mooto-Taekwondo-Uniform-Kukkiwon-Special/dp/B00ZWLBJU2
He ordered through amazon us, but it did take 2 weeks to come in as it came from Korea I think.
We also like the Adidas Adichamp 3 - light, but not as light as the Mooto. It has butt and armpit vents - I don’t know how much it cools you, but it doesn’t stain as much I think, and it’s very comfortable.
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00IPPHNCA/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_j7B7Ab384FV6G
Don’t know where it’s sold in the uk but amazon uk doesn’t have your size listed.

Basically the Mooto is a very thin, more polyester type fabric. Adidas one is thin, and definitely has synthetic fibers, but is more cotton-y than the Mooto. Both are very good.

So if you are willing to drop $25 more, I'd recommend buying this [one.] (https://www.amazon.com/Brand-Weight-Starter-Bundle-Traininig/dp/B072HFXWPX/ref=sr_1_4?ie=UTF8&qid=1549502373&sr=8-4&keywords=bjj+bundle)

I personally own it and it is amazing. You might need to do some shrinking once you get it but after that, it's a great Gi. The pros of it are: lightweight, color variation, blank/no branding, trusted brand (the gi is otm and they've been around a while and are trusted) also you get a couple dvd's and a free belt. Also because it's light weight, it will air dry overnight and be ready by the next day. If you end up needing to shrink your gi to the max, like I did, you can keep throwing it in the dryer afterwards and not even have to worry about air-drying.

Welcome...to hell, SINNER! Kano turns his face away from you as a single tear rolls down his cheek.

  1. Guard pulling? Try this. It works even better with two grips on
  2. Yoko tomoe is certainly "safer" than regular tomoe in that uke doesn't fly as high AND you have control of both their arms (if you grip the triceps)
  3. Gi - REJOICE FOR YOU ARE FREE, BROTHER! Personally, I'd recommend the Grips Primero 2.0 (which is hard to find - maybe try the 3.0) or the 93Brand (which I eventually I got use to; the Grips gi's are preshrunk and the 93 aren't). People have good things to say about the Sanabul gi's too. Me? I'm getting a black gi with orange collars and a nice Cobrai Kai patch on the back...just to let whitebelts know that yes, I heel hook on the first date. My wife has also drawn me nice unicorns and rainbows to put on my pink gi pants.
  4. Solo Drills: Look into FlowFit2 (which is a nice, discrete program of 15 minutes), or put something together yourself from the source material, or consider bag or ball drills. Shadow uchikomi (on the ground) are viable also. Eg - bridge, go to turtle, sit through etc
u/drutgat · 1 pointr/judo

I am 5' 7", 180 lbs (30 lbs overweight), and I recently got a Fuji (Keiko, but they rarely state the name in the ads) Size 5. The pants need to be taken up, but it fits well because I have broad shoulders.

For example:

https://www.amazon.ca/Fuji-FW-0-PARENT-Uniform-White/dp/B00GII1H9Q/ref=sr_1_2?crid=2H6K0J8E5JVQ6&keywords=fuji%2Bjudo%2Bgi&qid=1554983450&s=gateway&sprefix=fuji%2Bjudo%2Caps%2C154&sr=8-2&th=1&psc=1

Then I saw another one - exactly the same make, 'model' and size for about half that price, so I bought it as a backup, and it fits slightly differently - it is a little smaller. So much for consistency.

Be aware that some of the more expensive gis are pre-shrunk, so you do not have to worry about them shrinking any more. If you get a gi that is not pre-shrunk, do not put it in the dryer.

I am saying this because you might want to get an oversized gi deliberately, so that you can put it in the dryer to shrink it when you first get it, and then, after that, you will never have to let it drip dry, and can throw it in the dryer any time.

I ended up calling Fuji distributor when I bought my second gi, just to make sure it was the same model as my first gi, and to make sure the size was right. I would do that, if I were you.

If I were buying again, I would get a size 6 and shrink it.

Good luck.

u/brokenURL · 1 pointr/bjj

I'm with the others when they say you can get more bang for your buck with another brand, but if you really want hayabusa, don't let us stop you!

Pearl is the way to go. It is a single weave which means lighter. Gold is either a hybrid or double weave. Both are 550 gsm surprisingly, which means the material is going to be super dense. Unless you're rolling in snow or with literal grizzly bears, the single weave should be strong enough.

Read this - it summarizes everything REALLY well.

Personally though, I'd look at other brands. I just got an x-guard brand and love it. Also goddamn it, they are on sale for $120. Jesus. I spent $160.

u/judogirl · 1 pointr/Random_Acts_Of_Amazon
  1. Uniform. My workout of choice is judo!

  2. I love this game! I noticed you liked Settler's, so maybe you'll like Puerto Rico?

  3. A third thing is Thanks for the contest! This was fun!
u/hecticenergy · 2 pointsr/bjj

I’ve got this one:

Sanabul Essentials v.2 Ultra Light Pre Shrunk BJJ Jiu Jitsu Gi (A1, White) See Special Sizing Guide https://www.amazon.com/dp/B00P9W4GD6/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_o-4wCbPVGM096

I’ve been rolling with it twice a week for about 8 months. Still feels pretty new. I’m in Texas so the lightweight is nice during the long summer.

Probably not top quality, but seems like a great value given my experience with it.

u/N0_M1ND · 1 pointr/bjj

From what I gather the Standard Issue and Hooks are basically the same with the exception the Hooks has outer labeling whereas the Stardard Issue has no identifiable markings, like how gis used to be, this also leaves room for more patches if that's your thing.

Another option you may consider that is inexpensive and good quality is Sanabul. https://www.amazon.com/Sanabul-Essentials-Version-Preshrunk-Fabric/dp/B00P9W4GD6/ref=sr_1_8?m=A14TJKA4FS5CS1&s=merchant-items&ie=UTF8&qid=1479691941&sr=1-8&th=1&psc=1

Prices basically increase for color of gi, which seems to be a standard industry practice for "flagship" mass produced gi of a company. I own one, but it's a gi they don't make anymore, but it's my favorite gi. A lot of guys at my gi have them as well, they've held up nicely.

Whatever you decide to buy, I think sizing is most important regardless. You don't want to be swimming in you gi, but you also don't want a gi that is too small. Generally, you can shrink a gi, you can't make them bigger.

u/SenorPoopNuggets · 3 pointsr/bjj

This is all you need bro, my first and only gi....I train 4 times a week with it and still love it 6 months later, great price too!

When you want a good quality gi, at a good quality price, look no further than: The Sanabul Essentials Version 2 Ultra Light BJJ Jiu Jitsu Gi with Preshrunk Fabric!!!!!!!!!!!!!
https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01CFVA0XI/ref=twister_B00P9W4FH8

u/PandaQuest · 1 pointr/bjj

Sanabul is pretty cheap (for a gi, still kind of expensive in general) and is well regarded. I think it runs big though. Based on what I know, which is not much (I haven't been training long enough), we're at the point where even budget Gis like this should hold up for a while:

https://www.amazon.com/Sanabul-Essentials-Version-Preshrunk-Fabric/dp/B00P9W4GD6/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1485367574&sr=8-1&keywords=Sanabul

Edit: It looks like your jiu jitsu gear is a bit cheaper and comes with a free belt.

https://www.amazon.com/Your-Jitsu-Brazilian-Uniform-White/dp/B005OS6JYE/ref=sr_1_2?ie=UTF8&qid=1485367843&sr=8-2&keywords=your%2Bjiu%2Bjitsu%2Bgear&th=1&psc=1

Wow what a great deal! I'd buy one for that price right this moment. Sadly if I google for that same thing I get https://www.amazon.com/Fuji-Double-Weave-Judo-Uniform/dp/B00GII15Q6?th=1&psc=1 which is $95.00 for size 7. Congrats!

u/jvhero · 2 pointsr/bjj
  1. Ceck out u/ragnar_deerslayer post on Danaher's ENTER THE SYSTEM on the cheap

  2. Best Deal I've seen I don't personally own one, but we have a guy that wears one and it seems pretty nice. Otherwise, check out BJJHQ for good deals on gear.
u/Kintanon · 2 pointsr/bjj

http://www.amazon.com/Fuji-7000-A10-PARENT-BJJ-Uniform/dp/B00H87UA2G

I own a pair of Fuji's and they are both great training Gis for cheap. A good place to start.

For the rest of it? It's going to be the hardest thing you've ever done in your life. Remember that you are only competing against yourself. You should only be concerned with whether you are better now than you were 6 months ago. That's the only progress measurement that matters.

u/fightbackcbd · 1 pointr/bjj

Sanabul gi's are like $55 on Amazon. they are perfectly fine and just as good as gi's Ive bought that were 100% more $. The only knock I have is they come with twill pants and not ripstop. They make a "pro" gi too that is cheap, its liek $85 i think.

cheap one
https://www.amazon.com/Sanabul-Essentials-Version-Preshrunk-Special/dp/B00P9W4GAE

pro comp one which i think has ripstop pants
https://www.amazon.com/Sanabul-Highlights-Professional-Competition-Special/dp/B00I6YAANY

u/AFspectre · 3 pointsr/bjj

what is your budget range?

personally i have tried:

Habrok

Gr1ps

So far I have the most mat time with the Gr1ps gi that I own and have been super happy with the fit/weight/durability of it, and just got a new one for Black Friday. I just got the Habrok but so far I like it.

Quite a few people that I have trained with have had the Sanabul gi and they seem to hold up well. The people I know that have them like them.

u/LoveJiuJitsu · 1 pointr/bjj

Thanks so much for the input. All I have to go off of is the online promotion pics. Looking at the Amazon listing, it looks rather light? Am I incorrect? I'd love to see pics!

u/the_umm_guy · 1 pointr/bjj

I like trying to find the best band for my buck.

In 2011 I bought these http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0039GZQ1K/ref=oh_details_o01_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

They have been awesome, maybe I don't know what I'm missing in quality next to clinch or sprawl, and I intend to keep using them.

u/susiexlynn · 1 pointr/xxfitness

Oh that’s awesome, I’m so glad to hear you started! I’m about 6’ tall, so I don’t think that the gi I had in mind would fit you. :/ I’m still happy to send it if you want to try, I just don’t anticipate it being a good fit. But a couple suggestions - if you already know your training partners well enough to feel comfortable, ask if anyone has an old gi you can borrow/buy on the cheap - a lot of jiu jitsu practitioners have a bunch if gis collecting dust in their closets. Another option is this cheap gi in amazon that comes with a white belt: https://www.amazon.com/Brazilian-Jiu-Jitsu-Uniform-Preshrunk/dp/B07CZSDTWJ/ref=mp_s_a_1_6?keywords=bjj%2Bgi&qid=1556023731&s=gateway&sr=8-6&th=1&psc=1
I can’t speak to the quality of it, but $40 including a belt is hard to beat.

u/pmackles · 1 pointr/bjj

No problem. I bought this gi when I first started and its going strong despite hours of grappling with savages :)

Yea, BJJ is similar in that you will practice techniques to build muscle memory. When you execute a technique automatically and correctly against a resisting opponent it will feel effortless. You also have the feedback loop of full speed sparring which is beautiful. Sounds like martial arts is in your blood friend, you'll do fine.

u/spaok · 2 pointsr/judo

You have to click on the used ones:

https://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listing/B00GII15Q6/ref=olp_f_used?ie=UTF8&f_used=true&f_usedAcceptable=true&f_usedGood=true&f_usedLikeNew=true&f_usedVeryGood=true

They are still in the packaging, I believe they are ones that are returned, like someone bought it, it didn't fit so they returned it to Amazon, they can't sell them as new anymore, even though they are.

Mine was perfectly new, not even washed once, with all the tags still on it.

u/ketoismyfriend · 2 pointsr/bjj

I in a similar situation as you, I am pretty new to BJJ so I have a cheap 50$ gi my gym sells. But I have been eyeing https://www.amazon.com/Fuji-BJJ-Uniform-White-A3/dp/B00GIHVQBG/ref=sr_1_3?ie=UTF8&qid=1510337995&sr=8-3&keywords=fuji%2Bbjj%2Bgi&th=1&psc=1 for Christmas. I don't think it comes with a belt though.

Keto is great too, I have been a bit off the wagon recently but still loosing weight and feeling good so I am just going with it. I have been having 100 or less carbs a day and just lowering my fat a bit and its working for me, I think doing BJJ 3 times a week is what is driving that though.

u/itsmeb-rad · 1 pointr/bjj

They are thicker and seem to cool better imo. I like these and they're cheap.

u/etheery · 1 pointr/bjj

Most everyone at my gym wears a mouthpiece when they roll.

For spats, you can get a pair of sanabuls at a very reasonable price on Amazon. I like them and they're going strong after 8 months.

Sanabul Essential Mens Tights (Large, Black) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B01KT2MFCO

Pick up some compression shorts to go under them while you're at it.

u/9to5tofit · 3 pointsr/bjj

I think Fuji gis are great and cheap. Available on Amazon for around $85 (http://smile.amazon.com/Fuji-BJJ-Uniform-White-A3/dp/B00GIHVQBG/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1464968568&sr=8-1&keywords=fuji+gi). They go on sale for $70 on bjjhq.com if you are not in a rush.

u/dwkoenig · 3 pointsr/bjj

I have a plain white gi from an Amazon brand called Your Jiu Jitsu Gear that’s TBH one of my favorite gis, the same one comes in black: https://www.amazon.com/Your-Jiu-Jitsu-Gear-Brazilian/dp/B00890OFL8

u/CostaBJJ · 2 pointsr/bjj

consider asking the parents of the other 50% to make some donation. to buy 2 gis for their kid from like amazon, the Sanabul is real cheap, and donate one.

u/Razenghan · 6 pointsr/bjj

If you don't mind me piggybacking off your post, u/UncleSkippy, I also have a A1 white gi, like new (wife wore it twice, threw out her back, and said "Welp I'm done with BJJ").

Same rule applies: if you only have 1 other gi, first come / first serve. It says A1, but it's much closer to an A2. Please look at the size chart in the link!!

u/SlapHappyRodriguez · 5 pointsr/bjj

i almost pains me to say it, because i hate their marketing, but Shoyoroll are legit. if you buy a "comp standard" it will be about the same price as any quality gi. they actually have one that you can pre-order now.
since it is your first one i would recommend Sanabul. you can get one for $70 or less and they are not bad quality. i bought one for my wife, because i half way thought she would quit. now a handful of guys i train with own one because they saw hers and wanted a cheap gi. https://www.amazon.com/Sanabul-Essentials-Version-Preshrunk-Fabric/dp/B00P9W4GD6/
