I just went on a hunt for this kind of thing to start my own dream job, that has my very own desk! Scrolled through and I didn't see a few of my favorites.

Who doesn't like Einstein?

For the Office Space aficionado, a little bit stealth geek =)

Here there be dragons!

Got to get the matching set. Dragons get lonely, don't you know?

All of which is the next best thing in desk decoration couture of course! Thanks for the contest, and good luck in your new job!

This isn’t necessarily a difficult piece to recover, but there are a few things to keep in mind if you decide to try to tackle it yourself. I would suggest:

  1. Be careful removing the old fabric and double welt cord so you don’t knick/scratch the wood (buying a staple pulling tool like this one can help with control and lessen the chance of damaging the wood) https://www.amazon.com/C-S-Osborne-Spoon-Staple-Puller/dp/B07DNF34JJ/ref=mp_s_a_1_12?keywords=cs+osborne+upholstery+tools&qid=1573576886&sprefix=cs+osborne+&sr=8-12)

  2. Save the fabric pattern and cut your new piece slightly bigger. (About an inch or 2) This allows you to have enough excess to get a grip on and pull the fabric tight while stapling.

  3. Start at one side and put a couple of staples in and then move to the opposite side until you’ve put a few staples in on each of the 4 sides to ‘set’ your fabric in place. (Don’t worry about any ‘overhang’, you’ll cut that off •very carefully• with a razor blade once you’ve stapled everything down.) Once you have it set you can work outwardly from those few staples you put in on each side pulling the fabric tight as you go. If you start to get a wrinkle or weird spot, just pull out the last couple staples and work on it until you get it right.

4.when you come to legs or arm rests you may have to snip the fabric and fold it under a bit to get it to go around areas like that. Just snip carefully and make small cuts to start. You can always make the cuts bigger if you need to until it looks right.

  4. If you’re not going to make the double welt yourself you’ll have to find a pre-made cord, or you could use nail heads to cover he edges if you want to change the look of the chair up. If you stick with double welt, there’s a secret to attaching welt to pieces like this...hot glue.

Good luck! If you have any more questions don’t hesitate to ask :)

If you have bulletin boards, you could get one of these staple pullers for exactly $5. I guess even if you don't have bulletin boards, you could still get one and then just have it around to offer to coworkers who might need one, or straight up give it to someone. I've been longing for one of these for years, but never really remembered to buy one of my own. They're amazing and very useful!

A couple of things to think of-I’ll add more as I think of them.

  1. Consider how heavily your upholstered furniture will be used. If it will receive light use, go ahead and try to do it yourself if you are game. If it’s going to receive daily use I would take it to an upholsterer. Home sewing machines are not made to put heavy-duty thread through or advance heavy fabrics through. Mom burned out her very expensive Viking doing upholstery.

You may get it to work for a while, but it’s hard on the machine.

That said there’s a lot of upholstery you can do with no sewing. If that’s the case, have at it!

  2. You can’t live without this tool. Makes life so much easier when you screw up placing staples.

  3. If you’ve never upholstered try to keep cushions square instead of curved. That said, soften the lines and edges with cotton batting.

  4. Buttons are awesome. Make sure they are heavy duty.

  5. Consider the size of your upholstered part when selecting the fabric. If you are doing a small cushion, choose fabric that has a pattern small enough to see in its entirety. Choose large patterns for large areas. Also consider the direction of the pattern if it has a lot of lines. Make sure you buy enough fabric so that you can run it the way it’s supposed to go.

  6. Mom used one of these to cut foam. So easy and you can shape foam with it, too.

If you're going to get a lifter style one, I would recommend the Bostitch one over the Swingliner. There were a few of both type at a print shop I worked at and I found they worked much better.

I just finished my hardwood floors (675sqft), I used this tool. It was only $12 and it made the job super easy because that's exactly what it was designed for. There are a million things about the project I would have done differently but buying that baby is the one thing I'd do again every time.

I bought a stable removal kit at the drug store, like specially designed pliers.

He was fine, didn't barely even flinch. The only time I would bother getting a doctor to remove sutures, staples, even a cast, is if there was persistent redness or other signs of infection.

I think you might be better off looking for another one with a similar mechanism. E.g. https://www.google.com/search?q=push+staple+remover

One example: https://www.amazon.com/Bostitch-Professional-Magnetic-Remover-40000M-BLK/dp/B0006HVU4M

Staple lifter. Also good for some tacks.

On amazon.

u/SystemFolder · 4 pointsr/Whatisthis

It’s a staple remover. It’s similar to this one. Here’s a nice video explaining how to use one.

u/daveallyn · 2 pointsr/whatisthisthing

it is a staple remover
http://www.amazon.com/Stanley-Bostitch-Contemporary-Remover-40000/dp/B00006IFMU

personally I like the squeeze jaw type better..

u/troyunrau · 2 pointsr/rocketry

Interesting that you get ammonium nitrate from amazon, but not potassium nitrate. Try this one: ships to Canada: https://www.amazon.com/VPG-Hi-Yield-Stump-Remover/dp/B016P3G4XC

Found out how much it cost to get the staples removed from my head. Said "fuck it" and removed them myself.

Though (and this will probably de-legitimize my tough-guy claim) I used this. Costs a few dollars and is pretty painless.

u/sonicjesus · 1 pointr/mildlyinfuriating

Do these work? Did for me in my tedious paper jobs in the 90's.
