Thanks for the recommendation. I went with the Astro A50 Gen 2 in the end as they were on offer at a local shop for €170.
They are really good, except for the mic adapter. That thing is terrible. So I went and purchased a talkback cable. Now it's perfect.

Might I recommend something like this? It does require a wired connection, but at least you'd be using a controller you like.
The appeal of the OEM cable is that it has a charge indicator on it. At least, I would imagine that is why he want's the OEM cable. Otherwise, any other cable is just as good or better.
