Ok. D, C, AA, and AAA are all 1.5 volt batteries. So they all put out the same power. The size allows D batteries to hold a longer charge then an AA. It's like a gas tank. The gas has the same energy but if you have a bigger tank you can go farther. So going from D's to AA's would actually cut down on your runtime in that light. The main reason why people want AA batteries is that they are common and are small enought to make a light fit in your pocket.

The next level of batteries would be something like a CR123 lithium battery. This battery is a 3 volt battery. That's like having two of any of the ones previously mentioned. You could mod your light to have a special battery holder and then wire two or three of these together to give you 6 or 9 volts respectively. But you'd have to find a led to harness that power and then create a mount for it.

All in all with the skills you've stated I'd suggest just the first bulb I said. The stock mil-spec bulb is right around 40 lumens and the replacement is 140 lumens. Much much brighter.

Ok, so I don't want to make a whole new post on batteries again and I know I ask way to much about em (SORRY ;_;) but what are the best batteries for the olight s1 baton? I wanted to find batteries with the highest capacity that would still work. Illumn and Mtn Electronics don't have any unfortunately. I found these on amazon but the price isn't great. You know where I can get the highest capacity (and rechargeable) for the best price?

u/BorrowerOfBooks · 1 pointr/DIY

Hi DIY!

I'm trying to assemble a list of products (via amazon prime for time and location reasons) to do a project with my partner on his birthday Sunday with a budget of $25-30. I think he'd get excited for (and I can manage!) LED paper circuits. Luckily we have a soldering iron and multimeter around the house. Here are the products I've whittled down to with no idea at all what I'm searching for except advice from tutorials:

Copper tape - Amazon link HERE

LEDs - Amazon link HERE

Batteries - Amazon link HERE

Do these choices look okay, and if not would you suggest any alternatives? Thanks so very very much for any help!

Check out something like this: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B06WWF9KB6

It’s super easy to do yourself.

u/HalifaxSamuels · 4 pointsr/TheSilphRoad

Wow. I've never paid more than $.50 for a CR2032 before, and they all last reasonably well in the Go+. I just replace the battery whenever it starts to act up (and a reset doesn't fix it). I just get one of these packs every 15 months or so, and I haven't had any real problems in years.

I also tend to keep my Go+ connected (and reconnected, and reconnected, etc) all or most of the day while I'm at work to catch things and get a bit of that sweet, sweet GPS drift.

I use these for my original Arlo cameras still going strong. The Energizer batteries last longest by far that I have found. None of the rechargeable will last as long.

Here is my and my wife's bags. I made a simple Google Spreadsheet to count the weight and track what I still need to buy or pack.

  • Guy column: Items that only go in my bag, in ounces
  • Gal column: Items that only go in my wife's bag, in ounces
  • Singular: Items that we both need but only carry one of them, in ounces

Thus, if we both hike out, we divide the weight of the singular items. If I'm gone and she hikes out, then she only takes Singular+Gal items. Which is also how the bags stay packed: Singular+Gal items in her bag, and only Guy items in my bag. If we're both hiking out and have two minutes to spare, we'd throw some of the Singular items in my pack.

Hiking out is our last option (after driving and after biking), but it's a definite possibility with our living situation. The goal of either bag is to survive the 72 hours it would take to hike to our BOL.

With my Tilts, I calibrate in vapor distilled water using a Thermapen. Having a job with giant test labs have it's benefits.

I calibrate those bastards EACH and every brew. They know what 0.000 is.

I then re-calibrate them in the wort with the specific gravity reading from my hydrometer and refractometer. The tilts NEVER agree until you tell them, 'hey stupid, this shit is 1.065 not 1.055'. That being said, the gunk during fermentation is going to screw with the numbers. I never trust the reading other than stable. 60% attention for 6 days, that beer is done. I'll take a real reading when I package.

I used them a lot more before to get a hang of my normal 12.5° - 17° P (1.050 - 1.070) turn around times using a handful of different yeasts. They were awesome for that data. I have a table now of stuff that can turn around in 5 days, 7 days, 10 days, and 14 days.

I use them more now in ciders and meads in the documenting of a fast process. Helps with degas, nutrient additions, and temperature control (all key when wanting to try 14 and 21 day cider and 21 and 28 day mead.

As for rechargeable batteries. That is most likely a pipe dream. They rely on the weight/density of the battery as part of the system. CR123a are expensive, replacing them isn't difficult or stressful.

TL/DR: Tilts are cool, don't trust them on attenuation, rechargeable batteries not an option for time being.

If you haven't already, definitely pick up some batteries for it -- they do last quite a while but aren't included and can be harder to find locally. These ones are the ones I'd recommend: https://www.amazon.com/Panasonic-Lithium-Batteries-MP-100-Silver/dp/B013JEUI0K/

It does have connectors for a strap but none is included. I went with the Lomography ones (about ~9 each) which work fine but aren't anything special. I haven't found a "great" one for it yet. There are some nice/cheap ones on amazon that should work though: https://www.amazon.com/TARION-Camera-Shoulder-Vintage-Classic/dp/B0194X71JQ

You'll want a connector similar to that type (with the long connectors) to hold onto the camera. Some straps use metal clips which probably won't fit due to the way the camera is set up (the connectors on't really extend out far enough)

They also have a specific bag for it which looks to match your style, but it's been sold out for a while: https://shop.lomography.com/en/instant-automat-leather-bag

Energizer CR2032 Lithium Batteries Pack of 2 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B003CSX50O/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_S0lODb68KHXKE

u/Animum_Rege · 2 pointsr/Abode

I went shopping for the little button cell CR2032 battery last night. Found them at a grocery store for about $5/battery. Then I found a pack of 20 on Amazon for $6. It's a pretty small battery, so I imagine I'll have to replace it more frequently than any of the others.

If and when you do change the battery, make sure to remove the battery and then put the battery holder back in the device. It took me all of about 5 minutes to lose it for several hours.

Energizer BR1225 3V Lithium Watch Battery Pack of 5 https://www.amazon.com/dp/B001U1S1IQ/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_i_ru0TCbNJ5527M

u/Schonke · 1 pointr/airsoft

CR123a is a common battery type used in more powerful appliances than AA batteries.

u/ReactorW · 1 pointr/Warhammer40k

Not sure what size base the Scarabs come on, but here's some food for thought:

[Battery holder](https://www.amazon.com/QMseller-CR1220-Horizontal-Battery-Container/dp/B07GXY4GKN/)

[Batteries](https://www.amazon.com/Warranty%E3%80%91-CELEWELL-CR1220-Battery-Flashlight/dp/B06XQ1C5TN/)

[LEDS](https://www.amazon.com/Transparent-Lighting-Electronics-Components-Emitting/dp/B01BTYHOPE/)

The batteries and the LED(s) are both 3V so it's a straightforward circuit. You'll need some small wires & a little bit of soldering to get them hooked up. May need to drill into the bottom of the crystals to make room for the LED. Recommend testing it on an some other piece first.

u/jimlahey420 · 2 pointsr/TheSilphRoad

Amazon

It has gone up in price $7, I got it on sale back in December for the holidays. Still a good deal even at the current price but if you aren't in a hurry I'm sure it'll drop again.

u/830hobbes · 1 pointr/batteries

That depends on the LED, the battery and the circuit. Let's say you get a low current LED (20 mA - https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00UWBJM0Q) and an average 1632 battery (130 mAh - https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00102JQIE). That's drawing 20 mA from a 130 mA-hour battery so you just divide. You'll get about 6.5 hours of light from it though probably a bit less since you'll want to size your resistor to allow a bit extra current for a brighter light. You would do better getting a 2032 battery - https://www.amazon.com/gp/aw/d/B00DORK4NE. It's only a little thicker and would give you 225 mAh.

Edit: just realized you posted a link to a product. I have no idea how long that would last but i would guess 6 hours would be an upper limit.

u/RedditWhileIWerk · -1 pointsr/guns

Exactly.

Even if I had to buy them, they're around 70¢ each: https://www.amazon.com/CR2016-3V-Lithium-Battery-10-Pack/dp/B071XT8CK1

Not a crippling expense.

Streamlight ProTac 2L-X, 500 lumen, takes CR123A batteries, or streamlight's own battery.

Light: here
Battery+Charger: here

Both batteries offer the same 500 lumen lighting but the batteries above^ last 45 mins longer and you don't have to spend $20 on a 12 pack of batteries.

A lot of the lights run on higher voltage (3v) lithium batteries such as the CR 123A batteries

u/nerdy_redneck · 1 pointr/EDC

The internet is your friend. Physical stores charge out the ass for them, but you can get them online for relatively cheap.
12 pack for $18.66

u/Alextheman115 · 3 pointsr/flashlight

Did you tell him about cr123a batteries and how they have a ten year shelf life? The problem with lithium batteries is that they self-discharge quite rapidly.

Most 18650 lights can accept 2 cr123a batteries rather than an 18650. Here are some high quality cr123a batteries: http://www.amazon.com/Streamlight-85177-Lithium-Batteries-12-Pack/dp/B000IXCO8K/ref=sr_1_2?s=hardware&ie=UTF8&qid=1463233535&sr=1-2&keywords=18650

The only issue with cr123a batteries is that they cannot be recharged.

u/doubleplusunsigned · 1 pointr/arduino

If you're looking to use batteries and want higher power, you might think about using 2x CR123A cells in series. That would give you 6 volts, which wouldn't be too much waste for the regulator.

These are non-rechargeable, which is good. If you run rechargeable batteries without the proper protection circuitry to prevent over-discharge (letting the battery voltage get too low), bad things can happen.

Or you could look into an Arduino variant with a built in JST plug that's designed for use with a lithium rechargeable battery, like the Adafruit Flora or Gemma, or the newly released MKR1000

u/soapstud · 1 pointr/Homebrewing

These are the ones I bought. They are identical to the ones the Tilt comes with. Unfortunately there's no good way to turn off the hydrometer so you'll have to replace the battery every 3 to 4 months. There's a writeup on how to do that on their website.

Thanks to this sub I found the Olight i6 Paladin. I bought it like 8 months ago for around $80, but the price has since dropped to $40. I bought it from Amazon.

For those on mobile or something the dets are:

  • 420 Lumens for 1 hr
  • 80 Lumens for 5.8 hours
  • Cree XM-L LED
  • Two brightness levels
  • Water resistant to IPX-8 standard
  • Mil-Spec MIL-STD-810F

Next is the Streamlight TLR-1 weapon light.

  • 200-300 Lumens at 2.5 hours supposedly, but I think it's more around 1.5
  • C4 LED, shock resistant, 50,000 hour lifetime
  • 4.18 oz
  • Water proof up to 1 meter for 30 minutes by IPX7 standards
  • The model I have has a strobe function. Also has a always on, or hold switch for on mode.
  • You can find it for $110ish, the old price was closer to $200.

Then the light I regret buying but didn't care to return--the TLR-3. I bought the TLR-3 only to realize the TLR-1 was significantly better and decently priced.

  • 100 Lumens for 1.5 hours
  • Momentary/steady on/off switch.
  • You can find it for around $70

The TLR is the "poor mans" weapon light, if you have money you should look into Surefire.

Before I bought the weapon lights, I thought the "arm" on the back of the light that extends past the trigger guard was part of the mount system, but it's actually the switch. Just a now you know type thing.

All three lights in this post can use the same batteries. I bought them on Amazon
