Also, if you NEED a panel on Saturday & it's not first thing you can sit through the panel(s) before. Unlike D23 Expo & others they don't clear the room. If you're trying for a 6 room you can usually get in 1st thing without camping out but be there when the doors open. Indego ballroom has been hit or miss for me: either walk in or wait all day to get in the last panel.
Don't camp out for a Sunday hall H panel. There's no need (disclaimer in the past).
FYI the free shuttle busses are slow because they go everywhere. I opt for trolley tickets instead. It's not fast either, it's just faster.
Packing IMHO:
I know there's more but that's enough for now.
I've seen thriller films where an assassin will carry a collapsable rifle in one of those cylindrical cases for paintings. Lengthwise you could fit pretty much any arming sword in one (which I think would be appropriate, since Arthur supposedly lived in a time before plate armor was advanced enough for two-handed swords to be feasible), though I'm not sure what kind of diameter they have. Maybe you couldn't fit the crossguard in one. I'm not sure if they come long enough to accommodate a longsword, but that seems easy enough to handwave.
And if it's a gladius style sword it would easily fit in such a case.
EDIT: I didn't even think of an instrument case, like /u/Particular_Aroma suggested. That's even more practical. Depending on the size of the instrument case, you could fit literally any size sword. A double bass case could probably fit one of those ridiculously gigantic, probably-parade-use-only great swords.
I REALLY like this one, and it is a very reasonable price! Notice the shoulder strap and handle, and it is expandable to carry different sizes of posters! Some of the posters given out at SDCC are really large. It is also sturdy and pretty indestructible. And you won't loose the cap! This is a good one.

If you like selection, here's a another one:

Psyched to hear about your first show - welcome to the party!
You should typically be in line about 20-30 minutes before doors open if you want to ensure you get a print in hand - if there is a ticket taker or arena employee nest the entrance line ask them where the nearest merch stand in and once you are in make your way there as quickly as you can without endangering those around you.
They will provide a tube at the merch table along with your poster but I recommend buying one of these if you plan on doing the same in the future as they are sturdier than cardboard and are much more enjoyable to sling over your shoulder and forget about than having to carry around a tube in your arms (it inhibits ones ability to boogie!)
As for your stub - just toss it in the tube - it will bend slightly, but nothing that 24-48 hours under a stack of books won’t fix.
I carry a black plastic one that expands to conventions. I picked it up at Daiso for $4? It's basically this one (looks the same too!) A simple cardboard tube should do. I would get one with a larger diameter for flexibility. The mini posters they hand out for the dev signings tend to be heavy yardstick and don't roll up tight in a thinner tube.
Awesome, thanks a bunch for the tips. I have no engineering background so I appreciate the tips and the reading materials. I'll take a look. And without 3D printing, I think the only way I can solve the problem is by hideously MacGyvering some materials to a standard plastic tube. But I'll mull on that thought

Also, I was thinking 3D print the tube once or twice for the prototype, then if I decide to mass produce, move into tooling/molds. Is that a viable plan for these kinds of products?

This is on a certain level similar to what I'm making:

For long stuff like canes and antennae, I recommend an expandable art tube, like this: https://smile.amazon.com/Expanding-Adjustable-Waterproof-Light-resistance-Telescoping/dp/B01AJ569N2
A long poster tube with bubble wrap padding? And then maybe just duct tape seal everything to prevent it from sliding out.
Amazon Artist Tube
I'd check with your airline about the sizing and how they'll treat it but see if they allow you to take as your 'small personal' carry on.

I'd love for downvoters to hypothesize about why there is no equivalent for male children....
This is kinda like the one I use. The reason I suggest this is because you can adjust the length of the tube.

I have several of the large mats and a few of the small ones. I carry them all, rolled together, in an ice tube. If they get overly stained or dirty, I just take them into the shower and spray them off with Simple green, then wipe them down good. cleans them right up
It was for carrying maps, plans, blueprints, etc.
