If this looks like the correct glass, buy it and glue it in until you can find a good used mirror. This will save you a few bucks.
I had the exact same thing happen... so weird. Anyway, you just need to pop out the assembly that clips into the mirror. Use the adjustment to move your mirror all the way facing out, and use your fingers to unclip the assembly.
I'll try to find the PN I used to replace it! Inexpensive, less than $20

chip the old glass off and glue a new one on. 2002 civic? it will probably come off easy. both driver side and passenger side of my 04 CRV fell off on their own while driving down the highway.
Sometimes you can get the mirror glass at the local auto parts store. Or as gonzo mentioned the junkyard.
From what it sounds like you will just need the glass.
