Thinking about upgrading my car, and I'm the type of person who likes to have everything planned out in advance. Car is an '04, already has a double diagonal rollbar, harness bar, muffler, aluminum radiator, and intake. I'll be doing timing/accessory belts, water pump, and valve cover gasket/paint shortly.

Critique my build plans please. What here is unnecessary, what am I missing, what should I change, anywhere I can save money without losing quality, or anywhere I need to gain quality, even if for a higher cost?

I recently bought this Netami Seat from Amazon. So far the quality is great, arrived with good packaging and it comes with rails. I installed it on my GT Omega Art rig with ease.

You will be fine, I am using some universal rails on my 80/20 rig, cheap NRG ones you find for $40. Hardware wise, I ended up buying some Sparco seat mount hardware to attach to sliders, but thats all you should need. Good luck!

The mount did come with the seat: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0146238ZQ/ref=oh_aui_detailpage_o02_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1

Good swap! Must be so much fun to pile 3 friends in there! You will find they are a bit hard on the spine unless you wear a hoodie or eventually scoop up the pads that go with them.

I had a tomberlin crossfire I bought THESE SEATS FOR and ended up having to stretch my frame out 4 inches on each side to allow them to fit in along with continued access to the shifter.

When I'm playing Elite I don't sit at my desk, I don't find it comfortable to use my hotas setup from a desk position, especially the pedals. This is my current flight setup to give you an idea of why a keyboard doesn't work so well: https://imgur.com/4z8nWRV Without a reference position for the keyboard, its not a reliable input method for me.

Of course I still use a keyboard for text input, but there are other issues with using keyboard buttons as shortcuts. The main difference between my controller and a keyboard is that Elite treats these inputs very differently. Any text box can steal focus on a keyboard key. If you're trying to perform an action and look at a text box while performing that action, there's a good chance you'll just start typing into that text box instead. That was one of the first changes I made, switching the cherry mx keys on the controller from "keyboard" to "joystick" inputs so that I don't have this issue any more. Of course since every key is programmable you could set them individually as joystick or keyboard keys, or as a macro key.

I'm going to switch from the current setup to a custom built solution using one of those cheap "racing car seats" on amazon so its easier to adjust recline and seat position: https://www.amazon.com/Reclinable-Type-7-Racing-Adjustable-Slider/dp/B0116D7DCW/ref=sr_1_49?keywords=racing+car+seat&qid=1567091518&s=gateway&sr=8-49

They sell full kits for hundreds of dollars more but I don't have any problem with building my own frame besides being busy with other stuff.

Looking Really Good.
eBay is a pretty good source of chairs (a lot of choices under $110).

If you can live without comfort, Jegs seats can be had for $54 or so.

http://www.amazon.com/JEGS-Performance-Products-70200-High/dp/B007VRCTD6

Or, directly from http://www.jegs.com/ for $10 less, but $10 shipping instead of free, so same price.

Might I ask where you got your universal joint from and what type it was and how much it cost to modify (or did you do it yourself)?

Here you go, sir! https://www.amazon.com/NETAMI-NT-5105-Racing-Carbon-Texture/dp/B00OW7J5SA

I would have done a fake suede seat, but I get too sweaty sim racing, and this chair is easier to wipe the sweat off. Eww right? ;)

> I could use a desk or auto seat, but I would like to have the hole for the stick between the knee while keeping a system or sliders to get in easily

If you went with a car seat, you could just get a slider to go with it and avoid trying to build a decent seat yourself. Or, if you're already looking at building out of aluminum profile, you could add linear bearings and brakes.

Other than that, I'm probably not the best person to give advice. I do know, when I was looking at doing a desk out of 80/20 a while back, the local distributor offered design help. Might be worth checking in to?

Sure.

Full Reclinable Black and Red Cloth Type-7 Racing Seat+Adjustable Slider (Right) https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0116D7DCW/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_apa_kbnvxbRXA2PWB

Honestly I don't recommend it unless you're... narrow. The thigh bolsters are VERY firm.

u/philipito · 3 pointsr/oculus

Haha, I got it off of Amazon. It's not the most comfortable. I usually use a thin pillow as a backrest for longer sessions. Still, for the price, it does the job very well.

Looks like it's unavailable right now, but I paid around $47 for the chair when I bought it a month or so back.

u/SSIpokie · 2 pointsr/simracing

this is the seat I got. (passenger side cuz its cheaper)

u/music2169 · 1 pointr/oculus

Relevant to my seat? Is there a way to know what is more preferable..? For example this seat: https://www.amazon.com/Reclinable-Type-7-Racing-Adjustable-Slider/dp/B0116D7JWG/ref=sr_1_27?s=automotive&ie=UTF8&qid=1510049400&sr=1-27&keywords=racing+harness+seat+belt

Would a 4 or 5 be preferred in your opinion? And why?

I'm thinking you need to bolt the sliders to the seat with regular nuts and bolts and then mount the sliders to the GT1 with slot nuts and bolts

u/cavortingwebeasties · 2 pointsr/simracing

Normally I say go to a junkyard or craigslist because buying used your money goes farther. Temper your process with the knowledge that cheap racing seats are not that much even new. I bought one of these for a motion platform project I was consulting on.
