I would say stay away from pyramid brand if your bf is an active bowler, you get what you pay for, i had a global 900 bag for years and switched and within a year i am gonna switch back. This is why, interior stitching and material is wear, mine is already falling apart, the metal rivets they used for air to get into the shoe compartment fell off and the bag can't even stand upright anymore because there is no extra strap over the ball to hold it in and if you drag the bag accidentally the the plastic that they use to stand the bag upright wears down quickly. My son bought a used storm bag and the thing is still looking good . Wear and tear happens with all bags but cheap is usually cheap unless it is a good brand and used or gotten at a good deal. Check amazon, look at their used prices, sometimes its just new that people returned because they didnt like the color. my son picked this up for $160 , check the review, lol. https://smile.amazon.com/KR-Strikeforce-6-Ball-Roller-Bowling/dp/B06XQ7VG4M/ref=sr_1_17?dchild=1&keywords=6+ball&qid=1573601240&s=sports-and-fitness&sr=1-17

My favorite is the Turbo tape, specifically the blue or beige depending on how swollen my thumb is. I've tried Vise and Turbo both, but my hands get a little sweaty, and I find that the turbo tape's adhesive is much stronger.

But to answer your question, I prefer red for Hada. I think it provides the best balance of protection, and a quick release.

Ok roughly the first thing you need to purchase is bowling shoes. They don’t have to be expensive ones. You can get a pair like the ones I still use on amazon for less than $40 KR StrikeForce Orange/Black.

  • I would recommend next to get a microfiber towel or shammy You can use this to wipe off your ball after every shot which will preserve it. Then I would recommend a resin gripsack and bowling cleaner. You can actually get these in a set on amazon as well. bowlingball.com Bowling Basics Kit https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0171UXHHY/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_api_i_UvRPCbKKXGJ71

  • For a beginning bowling ball that would teach you how to hook I will agree with people who say the Hustle Ink. It is one of the best balls for its price on the market. I actually just got one drilled and I have higher end stuff. With proper form this ball because of how much energy it retains hooks a fair amount on the backend and is really enjoyable to throw.

  • Also another thing joining a league will really help your game. You don’t have to join a competitive one if you don’t want there are a lot of just for fun leagues and most of them at centers give you a card that you can use for discounts on bowling games and food and drink 5-10% discount but it’s a life saver with the reduced practice rate. -idk if your center does it mine does yours might not but it can’t hurt to ask.

I've been using Hada Patches for awhile, and it definitely helps with the ball sticking on the back of the thumb. Over the last couple of years, I have developed a nice callus on the back of my thumb, which would cause the ball to stick every now and then, but the patches definitely help to prevent that.

I have one and swear by it. It's amazing and an awesome investment. Much better than other homemade alternatives IMO.

I have this:

BSI Triple Ball Roller Bowling Bag, Black/Orange https://www.amazon.com/dp/B009S56KEI/ref=cm_sw_r_cp_awd_9KcLwbCM0ZV14

It's survived two super cold winters in jersey. Really like the bag versus my old ebonite roller.

I have 4 balls (3 + plastic) and wouldn't change that unless i no longer wanted to get better. Since it's pretty much possible to strike with anything on a house shot I just bowled with a different one every night. This keeps me from getting complacent on a line with the same ball that I know best at the house I'm always at. This way I'm not completely out of my comfort zone when I travel to new places for tourneys. Also, I don't ever lug all 4 of them around unless it's a tourney, so don't need the 4 ball bag (can just use a Joey.)

For best performance, this one - it has a Storm logo and is pink. ;)

(nah, just pick one you like. If you're going to machine wash it, probably do cold water.)

These things are awesome - Ebonite/Powerhouse Adrenalin Steroid Wipes. Don't use them in a confined space though, or with the ball on a ball spinner. Just use by hand.

This summer I purchased a Hammer Premium Triple Bowling Tote which are made by KR Strikeforce and love it. My main reason for getting it was for traveling by plane to nationals and could detach the accessory bag and toss that part in my suitcase and my bag and balls will then all be under the 50 lbs bag limit when flying. The accessory bag is much larger then I expected and holds everything that I need. The bag is really well built and only $85 on Amazon.

u/itsKOOLtobeGREEN · 1 pointr/Bowling

I use this , it’s a hammer black widow legend. It does exactly what you’re talking about, back end hook. I throw it similar to you it sounds like, and with this ball I have to throw it across the lane. I love it, hits real hard.

I use the Monster Tac cleaner. Here it is on Amazon It works great for me, gets the job done. Only $8.99. Then I use a microfiber towel to rub it off.

What kind of rosin bag are you using?

There are the white ones like this that emit a ton of rosin, so much that it will coat your hand:

http://www.amazon.com/Ebonite-Ultra-Grip-Rosin-Bag/dp/B000MEFSHY

I would only use those in very, very humid/sweaty environments and very sparingly at that, otherwise it will eventually cause sticking.

Then there are "dry bags" like these, which are more of a middle ground:

http://www.amazon.com/bowlingball-com-Microfiber-Ultra-Grip-Ball/dp/B004KQ393U/
http://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B000MECMN2/

I'm not sure if these are technically 'rosin' bags, per se, but that's what I call them anyway. The rectangular "dry bag" is what I use nowadays and can use it to combat moisture all night without getting sticky. However, I still make it part of my routine to rub out my thumbhole, just in case there's buildup.

There's going to be variance between brands, so you'll just have to ask around or try a couple different versions until you find one that suits you.

If you happen to overdo it, you can sneak off to wash your hands with soap and water and start over. Just make sure to dry them thoroughly obviously. I don't like doing that when I'm bowling well, mainly for superstition, but there have been nights it helped me regain my grip.

Yes, in a ball oven (not in the oven in the kitchen)

I recently purchased a bowling rosin bag that I use when I play. The bag has a anti-moisture powder inside and I just grip it between matches/deaths.

This is the one I purchase, but I got mine at my local bowling center. They have different ones you can use. Just search for rosin bag.

It does get slippery when your hands are sweaty. Holoball seems to be a particular problem with this. I might want to get a bag of rosin to help, but i'm still not sure. The problem isn't so bad, my hands get way sweatier in windlands, but because you're swinging it it can slip. I've never let it go, but i have felt it slip.

Another thing that makes this worse is the controller is tapered towards the back, so when you swing it, the force actually reduces your grip on the controller. ping pong paddles and tennis rackets are flared towards the end to prevent this. Hopefully the gen 2 vive controllers take this into consideration.
